March Wrap Up (2016)

March Wrap Up (2016)

April 6, 2016 Posted by angelreads Contemporary Romance Challenge, Monthly Wrap Up 6 Comments

March WrapUp

March has been a slow month for me. Most of the month I have been out of action, I had my 5 wisdom teeth removed and I was so out of it for at least a week. All I did was sleep and binge watch Full House. My mid-semester break is about to end and I end back to uni this week, and a couple of assessments are due quite soon.

The start of the month was quite slow with blog posts, however, I am trying to get back into the swing of things. I am still trying for at least 3 a week.

This month, I also started to write for Pop Cultural Tragic. I will be writing book reviews and bookish content for them. Check them out too, because it’s awesome.

March was also the month for Penguin Teen Australia’s #YASquad2016. It was such an amazing event and I got to meet with authors that I have been talking to for a while on twitter including; Kylie Fornasier, Shivaun Plozza, Megan Jacobson and Will Kostakis. It was also Felicity’s last Penguin event and it was upsetting to see her leave, but I cannot wait to see the things that she has install.

I read a good amount of books in March, simply because I was home so much. This doesn’t include any re-reads because I always forget to write those down.

books read

march read 1

–Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare | 5 Stars: Cassandra Clare brings the magic of the shadow world into a new light, in a gripping first novel of a new series, Lady Midnight is dark, fun and full of ups and down, it is going to rip your heart apart | Review

–Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry | 4 Stars: I loved Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry. It has a steamy romance, dark issues, sweet love and protagonists that pulls you right in. Walk the Edge by Katie MaGarry is a brilliant second novel in the Thunder Road series that is for lovers of YA Contemporary and anyone else who loves romance in dark times | Review

–All the Rage by Countney Summers | 3.5 Stars: This book torn me apart, it was such a beautiful book about a horrible thing.

march read 2

–These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner | 4 Stars: I don’t know why I waited so long to read this, but it was filled with banter and fun. I was a little confused towards the end, but the book was so well written considering that it was co-authored.

–Some Girls Are by Courtney Summers| 4 Stars: Again this book broke my heart, girls can be really mean.

–The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick | 3.5: I really enjoyed this, but not as much as My Life Next Door. The characters were quite interesting and did have me turning pages, however not knowing who’s pov I was it and sometimes it changing quite quickly was quite annoying. The romance was adroable and man did the book pull me apart.

march read 3

–Cracked Up To Be by Country Summers | 4 Stars: Courtney Summers knows how to tear you apart.

–The Natural History of Us by Rachel Harris | 4 Stars:  The Natural History of Us tells us a story of how two people that have been torn apart can be brought back together. With writing that is captivating, a story line that is intriguing and characters that you want to be friends with, The Natural History of Us is a book for every contemporary fan or not | Review

– Follow Me Back by Nicci Cloke | 3 Stars: I enjoyed reading Follow Me Back it kept me entertained and focus while I was reading it. Though the main protagonist was annoying and acted like everything was about him, Follow Me Back does delve deep into the dangers of the internet and that sometimes it can be a dangerous place that can do harm | Review

march read 4

–The Things I Didn’t Say by Kylie Fornasier |4 Stars: The Things I Didn’t Say, is a gorgeous novel that breaks you down. It pulls at your heart and slowly rips it. With beautiful writing and a slowburning romance that starts off quick, but takes it’s time | Review coming soon.

–Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven | 3 Stars: The flashbacks were done really well and flawlessly. I was able to tell, the past from the present. However as much as I liked the romance, it seemed off to me in a way.

–Pieces of You and Me by Erin Fletcher | 3.5 Stars: I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. The romance moved too fast and everything moved too quickly | Review coming soon.

march read 5

–The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler | 4 Stars: An emotional, heartbreaking and beautiful read | Review coming soon.

AHH You’ve read so many great books this month, I’m so jealous! I read All the Rage a while ago and same as you it hurt my heart, i though it was written so beautifully and the subject was dealt with really well. Lady Midnight was SO AMAZING, I finished it yesterday and I honestly don’t know what to do with my life until the next book comes out *flails*. I remember reading The book of broken hearts a couple years ago and I remember adoring that book, i think it’s time for a re-read soon. I seriously need to read Walk the Edge like yesterday because I LOVED Nowhere but Here and also Katie can do no wrong in my eyes. Happy reading 🙂

MARCH. A very crazy and stressful month for me too! The only thing I wanted to do was binge watch shows so I’m glad that even though I didn’t have it together, that I wasn’t alone. 😉

I really want to read some of Courtney Summers books—I have since I was 14 or something, but I’ve just never picked anything up. I’m glad to see that you liked her though, maybe now I can convince myself to actually pick something up!

I wasn’t sure I was going to Lady Midnight, but I think I need to add it to my TBR pile this month because I’ve been hearing so many great things. At some point, I need to get to the Infernal Devices too!
I agree about The Boy Most Likely To. I was honestly a little disappointed because I had such high hopes after loving her previous books. 🙁
Oh my gosh to removing all those wisdom teeth! That can’t have been fun and comfortable at all. Good luck with going back to uni!
I hope you’ll have a wonderful April! Happy reading.

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

IT’S RACE WEEK! 🏎️ If you didn’t know al IT’S RACE WEEK! 🏎️

If you didn’t know already I love F1, have ever since I was younger and decided that this year it would be fun to combined my love for F1 and reading together. 📚

After a week off we are back at it. We are in Miami this week’s and things are only just heating up. This week I’m reading Falling Off the Cliff Kanitha P.

…

Formula 1 legend in the making and rising star Thiago Valencia is chasing redemption as well as his second World Champion title. With a tarnished reputation and an undetermined future in F1 that hangs by a terribly loose thread, he can’t afford to lose his seat. Thiago is ready to do anything to redeem himself and erase his past mistakes. When a mysterious woman intrudes on his private party in Monte Carlo, he is certain the universe has brought his polar opposite into his life as salvation. He is sunshine, she is moonlight; he is a bright star and she is a moonbeam.

Destiny takes the wheel, steering Kamari into Thiago’s orbit, but her open disdain and closely guarded heart warn her to stay away. Enchanted by her charms, Thiago is intent on melting her freezing barriers and tearing down the walls shielding her heart.

When Kamari agrees to help him save his future by being his fake girlfriend, the unexpected happens, triggered by a game of lies, secrets and desire.

As they plunge towards the finish line, the race veers offtrack and neither of them are ready to fall off the cliff.
…

How Race Week Reads Will Work

On Monday of race week I’ll announce the book I’ll be reading for the week, then throughout the week I’ll be posting stories and my thoughts. And then on Sunday, race day my review and final thoughts will go up.

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
