Six Favourite Childhood Books

Six Favourite Childhood Books

Childhood TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All bloggers are then welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about Childhood so I picked my Top Six Childhood Books.

I have always read or have read to me. It has always been part of my life. However, it was really hard to think of books from my Childhood, so here a few that I have reread countless times, love and adored.

Childhood 1

Harry Potter by J.K Rowling: The first edition of Harry Potter that I have is from 2001, I was only 5 years old. That is how long Harry Potter has been in my life. When I think of books that I read or had read to me when I was a child, the first thing that comes to my mind is Harry Potter without a doubt. My mum read them to me, until I could and I have been re-reading them ever since.

I don’t know what my childhood would be without Harry Potter – pretty boring I think.

The Sleepover Club by Rose Impey: This was probably one of my favourite TV shows when I was younger and if you are not from Australia, but you love watching Reign and The 100, you might know a few of the girls. I have no idea how many of these books I read, but it was quite a few.

If I Ran a Circus by Dr. Seuss: This is my favourite Dr. Seuss books. I have no idea how many times I reread this book, but I used to know it by heart.

Childhood 2

The BFG by Roald Dahl: I love Roald Dahl, I have read quite a lot of his books, but this has to be my favourite and reminds me so much of my childhood.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett: I am cheating a little with this one, because I didn’t read the book until I was older, however I adored the movie. I think maybe because Maggie Smith was in it, but I loved it.

The Two of a Kind Series by Mary-Kate and Ashley: I loved the girly books, they were fun to read especially the friendship aspect. Again there is quite a couple of these and I have no idea how many I have read.

Well that is all I can remember from my Childhood. What are some of your favourites? What did you love? Let’s Chat.

I LOVED Mary-Kate and Ashley as a kid. I tended to stick to their movies though, but I know there was an animated series at one point that I think was based off Two of a Kind? I was obsessed with it!

I was young when HP came out too and didn’t read them until recently, but I adored them and wished I had read them as a child.
I read quite a bit of Sleepover Clubs too! Same with Babysitting Club. 🙂

I haven’t thought of the Secret Garden movie in YEARS. Now I am going to have to go see if I can find a copy of it :p Great list! I also hadn’t thought of the Two of A Kind books in years, either :p It would be neat to see a follow up on them as adults!

I love Mary Kate and Ashley, and still do being honest. The Two of a Kind books were great as well as their detective series or whatever that was, oh and the party series where they would just throw random sing-along parties for their friends. Well now I feel need the to rewatch my childhood lol. Great List!

I also loved The BFG and The Secret Garden when I was a kid! Surprisingly I didn’t really get into Harry Potter until I was 18, but now I love those too. 🙂

I loved the Sleepover Club books when I was a kid too. And Harry Potter is obviously a given.

Roald Dahl & Dr. Seuss were pretty much my childhood too. 🙂 Their books are so imaginative and creative. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3

Omg you’ve been reading Harry Potter since you were 5?! YOU ARE AWESOME. XD I can’t wait till my nephew is old enough for me to start flinging stories at him. I want him to start on Lemony Snicket. hehe. He’s 5, but he’s not terribly mature, so I think we’ll have to wait a few more years. *nods* OH I LOVE ROALD DAHL. I didn’t grow up reading him…but I devoured all his books when I was a tween and they were the BEST.

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
