Series I Won’t be Finishing #1

Series I Won’t be Finishing #1

series-i-wont-be-finishing-1

I find it really hard not to finish a book, let alone a series that I have already started. It’s something that I have been against for quite some time. But over the last couple of years, as I have been reading more books, I’ve learnt that I cannot love everything and sometimes I do have to give up. So today’s post is about some series that I most likely won’t be reading more of.

Just a quick note, these are my thoughts and feelings about these series – please respect that.

thorne-of-glass

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: If you follow me on Twitter, this might not come as a shock to you. I read Throne of Glass last year and I enjoyed it. I didn’t love it, but I was willing to find out more. But, then I started to read the reviews for the other books and the hopes that I had, disintegrated. I am not a fan of what Sarah does with her characters. I feel they do this flip personality wise and there isn’t an inch of who they were in the book previous.

a-court-of-thorns-and-roses

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas: I loved A Court of Thorns and Roses, it was one of my favourite books last year. It was everything that I loved, however, I finished the books with some concerns. When the reviews started rolling in for A Court of Mist and Fury, I knew that the book wasn’t going to be for me. I am totally okay with a character changing who she wants to be with. But, what I hate is when the old romantic interests, is turned into a villain. And the new one, oh forget about all the horrible things that he has done. Sorry, that is me out.

assisans-heart Mini

Assassin’s Heart by Sarah Ahiers: I was so looking forward to reading The Assassin’s Heart when I received it for review. And then I started to read it. It had some really good things going for it, but it fell flat and confused the hell out of me. There was so much going on, where things changed here and there. I don’t even know how Thief’s Cunning, will work out.

What are some series that you won’t be finishing? Do we share any that is the same? Did you like this post? Do you want to see more? Let’s Chat!

I might not continue with ACOTAR either. I thought the first book was enjoyable, but I didn’t really love it either. And like you said, then the reviews of ACOMAF started coming in. I just don’t think this book will be for me. Maybe I’ll change my mind in a few months… But right now, I don’t really have the intention of reading it.

I always love posts like this! It’s incredibly interesting to see which series you won’t continue 😀

I was really upset with ACOMAF, because I really wanted to read, I wanted to love it – but, I just can’t.

      Thank you!

You know that I totally agree with those first two books after our hours of complaining about them together 😛 You totally put me off The Assassin’s Heart in your review. I know it caused you pain, but thank you for saving me from it. You’re a good egg <3

I am so glad is not just me about ACOMAF. My sister was very pissed at the end of it because she enjoyed Tamlin. Everyone at my book club loved book 2, and Rhysand. I was like ‘ my opinión my not be age appropriate’. I like the author, just can’t get into her books. Had trouble finishing Throne of glass as well.

This made me laugh. I just don’t understand why, she does the things she does. Thanks for the comment

Haters gonna hate, babe. As was just said in our group chat – life is too short to waste on things that don’t make you happy, and others can’t force you to be happy about them just because it’s something that makes them happy. Nope. Now that you’ve cleared your mind of these, you can make room to find things that you’ll absolutely love! ♥

I’m not surprised to see SJM books on here, the whole character flipping and especially the love interest thing in ACOMAF is starting to really annoy me too. I wasn’t a fan of AH either!

It’s just something that doesn’t work for me. It changes the whole essence of the character – and makes them a whole different person. Thanks for the comment

Yep, I am with you on not finishing or reading any Maas books anymore. The love interest situation is just ridiculous, I don’t want to be led to one ship only to have it switch on me every book depending on the author’s whims and fantasies…

It’s a waste of my time really. I am okay with people breaking up in books – cause that is real like, but they way that Maas does it. I just can’t deal with it. Thanks for the comment

Those Sarah J. Maas books sound exhausting. I know everyone and their mother is obsessed with them, but I really really really don’t think they would be for me. I’m not much of a fantasy gal, and I also don’t like emphasis on romantic relationships (with some exceptions).

I am right there with you on SJM books. I read the first two ToG books. I enjoyed book one but found book two annoying and slow. I have no interest in finishing the series. I really disliked ACoTaR. I’ve come to terms with the fact her books just aren’t for me.

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
