Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To

Meant to Read 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone join as you please. This week’s topic is: Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To.

2016 was a big year for YA. There were books coming out left right and centre and because of that it was very hard to keep up. I read over 100 books in 2016, with most of them being released in that year, however, I did miss a lot. Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is about 2016 releases that I was meant to read but just didn’t get the chance to get to. As always these are in no particular order.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo: I loved Six of Crows. The only reason I haven’t picked this one up is because I want to get the hardback box set and I haven’t had the money to.

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater: After reviews started to roll in for this one, I wasn’t excited to pick it up. Firstly, I am not a massive fan of the series. I enjoyed reading the books and I want to know what is going to happen next. But then I saw that not everyone was happy with the ending. Maybe soon.

Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes: This one hasn’t been published in Australia yet, so I am waiting for the paperback to be released in the US to pick it up and read it.

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead: If you have known me for a while, then you might know that I love Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy world. So when I heard that she was writing new books I wanted to read it. Yet I still haven’t picked it up

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton: This sounds like my type of book. However, most fantasy has disappointed me this year so I have been put off. I hope that I can get to it soon.

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I have yet to read any of Jennifer’s contemporary work and this one sounds like a good place to star. Again I haven’t had the chance to pick it up.

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury: I was meant to read this when I pre-ordered a copy of it earlier this year. But like usual I just didn’t get to it.

P.S I Like You by Kasie West: I love Kasie West, but like with Girl Against the Universe – I can’t find a paperback yet and I need that to match all my other Kasie West books

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows: This one didn;t get added to my list until later on in the year, but it sounds like something that I might just enjoy.

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab: I have no reason why I haven’t picked this one up. But, I do hope to get to it soon.

And that is it! What books that came out in 2016 that you were meant to read, but never got around to? Do we share any that is the same? Have you read the books on my list? Let’s Chat!

Nevertheless, you can find me on twitter at @angel_reads, Facebook, instagram, tumblr and Goodreads. You can also follow Angel Reads on Bloglovin and via email (in the sidebar).

Oh no, I didn’t know people were unhappy with The Raven King ending!! I’ve tried really hard to stay away from spoilers, so I haven’t really heard much of anything about it. I keep hoping I’ll be in the mood to read it, and just never have!! I think it’s because I read all the other books so SLOW. I don’t know what it is about that series, but I cannot read it at a normal pace!

This Savage Song was really good, so I hope you find the time to enjoy it. The same with Crooked Kingdom. I wasnt a big fan of Rebel of the Sands though, but Im definately the minority there. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
