I felt the same way about The Edge of Everything. I liked it enough, but it didn’t blow me away! Great list. 🙂

I’ve only read The Raven Boys, but I know that our opinions are pretty similar for all books so I don’t know how I’d feel about these.

I just finished reading caraval and really enjoyed it but I completely get what you mean about feeling a little let down. I did enjoy it but there was just something slightly off. I think it was because of all the hype around it.

I am currently doing The Crowns game in audio book (i am about 2 hours away from finishing) and I think I will be agreeing with you. I am feeling underwhelmed. I hope you pick up many more loved books!

Oh dear. Now I’ve seen Caraval on two lists of disappointing books. Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts, though.

I didn’t like Caraval quite as much as others seem to as well. It was fun but nothing amazing…

I really should have put Moon Chosen because I really wanted to love it more than I did, but I didn’t really think about it. Plus, it had some redeeming qualities even though it caused a reading slump and took me FOREVER to get through. Still, my heart beats faster every time I see that cover and I’m excited to see what happens next.

I totally agree on Caraval, Heartless, and The Star-Touched Queen. I didn’t love those books and I totally thought I would. I can see how The Raven Boys would make your list but I’m a big fan of that series although it hit me slowly. Great list!

I agree with you on so many of these. The star touched queen – beautiful writing but confusing prose. The raven boys – great but not something I was mad over. And the Edge of everything – so many elements I liked but so many I didn’t too. Quite a few of these books are also in my TBR pile – makes me wonder how much I will enjoy them seeing as we seem to have the same tastes. Great list!

I felt a little bit about that with The Crown’s Game. I’d say that I still REALLY liked it overall, but the romance definitely let me down so the ending didn’t have a huge impact on me because of that.

I have heard a lot of people got disappointed by Heartless, I was gonna read it after finishing Cress and Winter. But now I dunno if I’ll read it. I am sorry Caracl wasn’t what yo expected, sometimes over hyped books just lead to disppointment.

I’m with you on Caraval – there’s wrong with it, but it’s totally overhyped.

I was lucky enough to read The Raven Boys before all the hype really hit after its release, so thankfully I loved that book a lot. I agree with Carval though, it was good but it didn’t blow me away like it seemed to blow away everyone else.

The Crown’s Game and Heartless are two on my TBR I’m going to go into cautiously because I have heard so many mixed things. Hopefully low expectations means I can only be happy with them.

I thought I’d love The Star-Touched Queen but I haven’t been able to finish it yet. I also didn’t care for Heartless so I didn’t finish it. I tried reading and listening to The Raven Boys but it just couldn’t hold my attention. I guess those books aren’t for me either.

I’ve seen Caraval on several of these ‘disappointed’ lists. All the hype creates expectation and then you feel let down 🙁
Agree with you on The Raven Boys.

Caraval is one I’ve been debating, on the one hand I kinda like the sound of it but at the same time I’ve seen some mixed reviews along with the positive ones, so I don’t know. 🙂

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
