Book Tag: The Aussie Book Tag

Book Tag: The Aussie Book Tag

The Aussie Book Tag

Lately, I’ve loved doing tags. They are really fun and get me thinking about books in ways that I’ve never thought about before. So, when I saw the Aussie Book Tag I couldn’t help but jump right into it. I wasn’t tagged by anyone (that I know of), but I still thought I would give it a go.

The Aussie Book Tag was created by  Julia @ Picnic Reads and Ngoc @ Happy Comes First.

Koala

A character you want to cuddle ALL DAY LONG

Ty from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – oh gosh. He is adorable and I can’t even. I think it’s going to be worse in Lord of Shadows just from the snippets I’ve said and I’m both excited and concerned at the same time. I love how innocent he is, but also how strong he is and wants to be.

Vegemite

A book that you love that everyone hates

Not as much hates, but dislikes. Last year, I read and loved Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. I feel in love with the world and the characters pulled me right in. Three Dark Crowns is dark and sinister. You don’t know who to trust or what is going to happen next. There were a couple of problems here and there, but overall, I really enjoyed it. The reader is left on their feet through the book, and even when it ends, you are left standing on the edge of a cliff.

Socceroos

Favourite Fictional Squad

There are many fictional squads that I would love to part of, but one that just pops to mind are the group from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I will never get enough of this whole gang. They are charming, intriguing and pull me straight in. I love the banter between them all and how they work together so well. I have yet to pick up wires and nerves, but I will soon. I just cannot wait.

Southern Cross

Most recent 5-star read

This is going to come as no surprise but The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s is a brilliant and powerful story. It’s heartbreaking, poignant and so so true. It’s a book that everyone should read, and understand. The Hate U Give explores family, friendship and what is right. I wanted to cry, scream and hurt.

Patriotism

Favourite book by an author from your country

Now this one was a hard one, I really had to think about it as there are many Aussie YA books that I adore. But, I think that the Every Series by Ellie Marney has to come out on top. This series grabs you from the first page, and you don’t want to let go. You are on the edge of your seat the whole series and you don’t know what is going to be pulled out of the hat next.

Echidna

A book you like to look at, but it physically hurts to read.

I will probably get a lot of dislike for this, but any books by Sarah J Mass. I love the covers that she gets for her books. But, I really don’t like what’s inside them. Both the first book in each of her series I enjoyed, but after that – just no.

Ned Kelley

A book that is really grim, but an iconic must-read

Again, I have to go with The Hate U Give. This book was hard to read – like rip through my chest hard. I think because it is based on truth and it’s happening all the time – it made it that much harder to power through. However, I think everyone should read it and understand how important it is | Full Review

Great Barrier Reef

A book that had you gasping in awe

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor.  It’s addicting. It explores the notion of family, friendship and finding out who you are. With a world that is built with layer upon layer, you will be begging to find out more. With its beautiful writing and characters that will take you by storm, it’s an adventure you want to be on. Strange the Dreamer is poignant, heart-stopping and you will not be able to put it down.

Pavlova

A light and fluffy book that you can’t help but love

I don’t read many light and fluffy books – the contemporaries that I do normally have an emotional impact or are dealing with mental health, grief etc. However, the Hundred Oaks series by Miranda Kenneally. They are always fun to sit for a few hours and read. If you know any Aussie YA that is light and fluffy please let me know.

Milo

A genre/author you reach for to get out of a reading slump

Contemporary for sure! They are such quick reads for me, I can sometimes knock them out in a couple of hours. I also like to re-read in slumps and just get back into the groove of reading. I am loving contemporary more and more. They can be fun and fluffy, and then sad and heartwarming. There is such a range and I love it.

And this is it for the Aussie book tag! I tag YOU. If you want to participate in the Aussie Book Tag, then go right ahead.

Do you agree with any of my answers? Do you disagree? Have you read any of the books that I’ve mentioned? What did you think of them? Let’s Chat.

I done this tag a while ago I cant even remember my answers but I love yours! Strange was definitely awe inspiring and I agree with Three Dark Crowns in the sense that everyone doesn’t love it XD I was so bored reading the first half of the book but then the ending happened and I was suddenly dying for the next book?! It was a weird feeling but I have so much hope that I’ll love the next book 😀

I really like this tag! I think I’ll have to do it sometime 😀

I definitely agree with The Lunar Chronicles gang being an amazing team! Most of the other books you mentioned I haven’t read yet. I’m currently reading (and LOVING) in Strange the Dreamer. As for Three Dark Crowns, I was expecting more dark stuff and tournament than we were given and the love triangle/ cheating annoyed me (the end was fantastic though and I’m hoping the sequel continues the standard set by those final chapters)

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
