Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest

Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest

February 6, 2018 Posted by angelreads Book Reviews 13 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone join as you please. This week’s topic is Books That Have Been On My TBR the Longest.

So, this was hard. At the middle of last year, I went on a cleaning spree of my Goodreads ‘to read’ shelf and got rid of a lot of books. It was a great feeling, but in doing that a lot of books that have been on my tbr for years are gone. So most of the books on my tbr now are from the last couple of years.

I’ve got a really bad habit of adding books to my tbr and then completing forgetting about them when they come out. It’s a bad habit that I hope to fix, but you and I know both know that won’t happen.

So today, I thought I would share the books that have been on my Goodreads tbr the longest. Some I own, most I don’t but here we go.

The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray: This has been on my tbr since it came out, I have 2 copies and I still haven’t read it. I don’t even know why. I think I will love it. It’s historical fiction, fantasy and a mystery. So many things that I love.

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols: I added this one to my TBR when I first started reading contemporary romance. At the time I don’t think I would have liked it, but now I think I will love it. Hopefully, I can pick it up soon. A fun romance that involves a cop!

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson: This has been on my TBR since I heard Laurie a couple years ago. I think it’s going to be a heartbreaking novel that’s going to tear me apart. But I also that it’s going to be honest and breathtaking.

In Honor by Jessi Kirby: A road trip that focuses on grief. Ah, this novel is going to tear me apart. But that’s why it’s on my tbr. I love road trips that not only helps the protagonist deal with life but let themselves fall in love.

Kiss Kill Vanish by Jessica Martinez: A YA thriller – yes please! As soon as I read this synopsis I knew that I had to read it – but it’s yet to happen. Mostly because I don’t think it got published here in Australia, so I just never got around to it.

Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick: I feel like this is going to be heartbreaking, but really impactful all at the same time. I think that books like this are so so important and I want to finally pick it up.

Clipped Wings (Clipped Wings #1) by Helena Hunting: A new adult novel that sounds haunting, beautiful and will tear me apart. I feel like these characters will take me on a ride of ups and downs.

Spark (Spark #1) by Rachael Craw: I’ve only ever heard amazing things about this one and I don’t even know why I haven’t picked it up. Like I have no excess. At all. Expect maybe because I don’t own it.

Thicker Than Water by Brigid Kemmerer: This was on my TBR before I read Letters to the Lost and I still haven’t read it. Again I have no reason. This one seems like another heartbreaking but wonderful read.

And that is it! What are the books that have been on your TBR for ages? Do we share any that’s the same? Let’s Chat!

I’m reading the Diviner’s right now and it’s absolutely fabulous! It did take me a little to get into, but the writing is really stupendous and I’m glad I stuck with it.

SPEAK!!! I totally think you should read that. I don’t think you will regret it– it’s like the MOTHER of modern YA. Also, The Diviners is FAB. I haven’t read past the first book, but I really loved that one. It has an awesome cast of characters and really creepy atmosphere.

In honor is a book I really want to read too! It’s been on my list for quite awhile. I have another Brigid Kemmerer book on my list too because I need to go back and read her older stuff with how much I loved Letters to the Lost and More Than We Can Tell. Great list!

Speak has been on my TBR for a while too, though it was one of Laurie Halse Anderson’s other books that was on my list this week, Wintergirls.

I want to read The Diviners as well. Years ago, I read her book Going Bovine and loved it. Not sure why I haven’t read anything else yet.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks!

Speak, In Honor, and Kiss Kill Vanish are all on my TBR list. I’ve read Kiss of Broken Glass but I didn’t really like it as much as I’d hoped. Thicker Than Water sounds interesting.

I have heard impressive things about the Diviners, but I`ll admit, the size of the books scares me. Good luck with your reading!

If you end up reading Speak and enjoying it, I would definitely recommend the movie. I think it’s a very good adaptation.

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
