Highest Rated Books I’ve Read

Highest Rated Books I’ve Read

May 25, 2020 Posted by angelreads Discussions, Recommendations 2 Comments

Recently I’ve shared some of my lowest books that I’ve read, but today I thought I would change it up and share some of my highest rated reads.

All the books that I’m going to talk about today have 5-star ratings from me. These days I rarely give out 5 stars. Thinks year I’ve only given out 3 or 4 I think – while reading over 120 books. But I used to give them out a lot more. I think I’m just more selective these days. However, I would still classify all the books here as 5 star reads for me. Enough chit chat lets get into it.

Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1) by Laini Taylor: I don’t it’s a surprise that this one is on my list. I love reading Laini Taylor and I love Strange the Dreamer so much. I love the world, the characters, the writing. Laini Taylor just knows how to grab me from the start.

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett: I think you guys already know how much I love Jenn Bennett and this one is just fantastic. With intriguing characters, a plot that had you on the edge of your seat and writing that keeps you right in the story.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: I still talk about this book till this day. It’s one that I always highly recommend and I think I always will. The Hate U Give is a brilliant and powerful story. It’s heartbreaking, poignant and so so true. It’s a book that everyone should read, and understand.

Frankie by Shivaun Plozza: I love this book so much. It’s a story of heartbreak, belonging, finding yourself and what it is to be a family. It captures Melbourne as Melbourne from the language to the setting. It’s one of those books that catches you by surprise.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Cursebreakers #1) by Brigid Kemmerer: I was captivated by the characters, world, and the plot from the very first chapter. There is fantastic worldbuilding, court intrigue and everything else that you want. I still haven’t managed to pick up book 2 yet – but I will.

Frostblood (Frostblood Saga #1) by Elly Blake: I really loved this book when I first read it, and I think I still would now. It’s a fantastic fantasy that has a lot of elements that I really enjoy. I love the romance, the characters and the world. I also really enjoyed book two.

The Conqueror’s Saga by Kiersten White: This is possibly one of my highest-rated series. The first book was a 4.5 while the other two were both 5 stars. I love this series so much. It has everything that I look for in a book and more. If you love historical fiction with a twist and fierce and an “unlikeable” protagonist. Then this is for you.

Sleeping Giants (Themis Files #1) by Sylvain Neuvel: I read this one as an audiobook and let me tell you, it’s the way to go! It’s such a fantastic book and that really is highlighted when you listen to it on audio. It just leans it’s self to it. If you enjoy Scifi but don’t love everything in space – then this might be the one for you.

When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah: I have a serious love for this one and I wish I talked about it more. It’s written in such a fantastic way that from the start I was sold. I think it should be on every high school list.

And that is it for this post. Those are some of my highest rated books that I’ve read over the last couple of years. What are some of yours? Do we share any that is the same? Let’s Chat!

Alex, The Hate U Give, Frankie and A Curse are some of my favorite books too! I’m pretty sure I rated them 5 stars as well. I have tried Laini Taylor quite a few times but I can’t seem to get into her writing. 🙁
I need to read And I Darken!

I read The Hate U Give during quarantine and although I recognize the powerful message it sends, it wasn’t a 5 star reading for me, maybe just because I struggled with such a young narrator. But the story, the setting, the insight it gives were really special.
I’m looking forward to read more about the Conqueror’s Saga, sounds really interesting 😀

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
