This or That Book Tag

This or That Book Tag

August 22, 2020 Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

I’m loving doing more tags recently, so I thought I would do some more. The This or That Book Tag was originally created by Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks. I was tagged by Ely from Earl Grey Books. So let’s have some fun!

Reading on the couch or reading on the bed?

Bed all the way. I love that I can curl up and just stay warm under all the covers. I read mostly playing down, and it’s better for my back pain. It’s my favourite way to read, especially in the winter months. In summer this is a little harder as it gets quite hot in my room. But for the most part, I love reading in bed.

Main character: Male or Female?

Female 100%. I rarely read a book that solely has a male protagonist. I don’t hate them, but I much prefer female leads. In saying that I love having both love interests in romances. Makes for such a better reading experience and understanding.

Sweet or salty snacks while reading?

Salty, or savoury for this one. I don’t eat many sweet things. I much prefer chips or crips, something like Doritos. But only when I’m reading on my phone. I don’t want cheese on my books!

Trilogies or quartets?

Hmm. This is a hard one for me. It depends on the series its self. But I do love longer series, especially in romances when you get everyone in the friendship or family group – makes for such a great read.

First Person or Third Person POV?

I use to love reading in first person. But as time has done gone on I much prefer third person now. In saying that, third-person close to the narrator is perfect for me. It hits all the right marks and is the perfect combo of first and third person for me.

Night or morning reader?

I read any time of day. I do however like to always read before I go to sleep, but when I was at uni I was reading my whole trip there and back. Between classes. Just any time that I was able to read. I did.

Libraries or book stores?

Bookstores all the way. I may be a little biased here as I am a bookseller. But even before that, I love owning books. I love just being in a bookstore. There is something about it. In saying I also love libraries. But bookstores just make me so happy.

Books that make you laugh or books that make you cry?

I cry at everything. Seriously it doesn’t even need to be that sad and I will cry. I love books that make me feel emotions. That hit me deep. They just make so interesting and impactful reads.

Black or White book covers?

hmm. I kinda like both. I like the contrast that both of them can give a cover. And then I love a black cover, with bright colours as a contrast. And I love how stark and demanding white covers can be.  They jump off the shelf for me.

Character-driven or plot-driven stories?

Ohh this is such an interesting one for me. It does come down to the genre for me. I love character-driven books though. There is something about them that just grabs me from the start. I especially love fantasy to historical fictions that are character-driven it makes you look at the novel in a whole new light. There still needs to be some plot.

And that is it for today’s tag. I had so much fun doing the This or That Book Tag. Do you agree with my picks? If you would like to do this tag go ahead, it’s so much fun. Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
