Finally Reading Again | September Wrap Up 2020

Finally Reading Again | September Wrap Up 2020

September 30, 2020 Posted by angelreads Monthly Wrap Up 1 Comment

The last few months I have been in a little bit of a runt. I’ve read, but it hasn’t been to what I can and wanted to. But September finally lifted for me and I read 26 books in September and I had a lot of fantastic reads.

Overall my reads this month were fantastic. I had a few high 4 star and 5 reads and nothing below a 3 star. I just read what I felt like and it was a great way to get out of the slump that I was feeling. Like always these are in no order.

Demetri (The Volkov Empire #1) by Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez: I read the companion series by these two earlier this year and I finally picked up these ones here. I didn’t like it as much as their other books I’ve read both the duo. However,  I still enjoyed reading it and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Always Only You (Bergman Brothers #2) by Chloe Liese: After finishing Only When It’s Us last month I had to pick up book two and it’s one of my favourite books this month and for the year. It’s a fun, beautiful and charming sports romance that explores the ups and downs of falling in love. I adore the exploration of disability in the book and I can’t wait to see more of it throughout the series. Full Review.

WAGS #1 – #3 by Naima Simone: I picked this series up on a whim. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but I had such a blast reading these books and I can’t wait to read more from Naima Simone for sure. My favourite at the moment as to be book 3, Scoring the Players Baby. You can check my series review now.

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo: I’ve been making my way through Elizabeth Acevedo’s books and they have all just been fantastic. I adored this one so much. I love how the notion of being a teen mom was explored in this, especially the positivity of it. But also the struggles. I can’t wait to read more.

A King so Cold by Ella Fields: I wasn’t planning to read this book this month, but I first the read chapter and then could not put it down. It is a dark, haunting and sexy adult romance.  It’s magical and whimsy but also filled with vengeance and blood. There are unreliable characters and a protagonist that isn’t one for everybody.

Bull (Kings of Mayhem MC #6) by Penny Dee: I read the rest of this series earlier this year, but this one came out in August and I finally picked it up. I really enjoyed this one a lot. It had all the angst and romance that I was excepting. There were parts that I didn’t love, but overall it was a good read.

The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke #1) by Tessa Dare: I’ve been meaning to pick up another Tessa Dare for a while now and this is the one that everyone tells me to read. And you know what? I adored it. The romance was fantastic, the writing was great and I had such a blast reading it. I’ve now got the rest of the series that has been published.

Lies & Lullabies (Hush Note #1) by Sarina Bowen: The romance turns from sweet to sexy and beautiful. With interesting protagonists and storyline, Lies & Lullabies is a fantastic read and a great introduction into the world of Hush Note. I’m really excited about the next two books. Full Review.

The Burning Shadow (Origin #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout: I have had this book for a while now and I finally picked it up when I challenge myself to read some of the highest-rated books on my tbr. I love reading The Burning Shadow. Evie and Luc are simply fantastic, both as their character, and together they are so much fun. Full Review

Brazen and the Beast (The Bareknuckle Bastards #2) by Sarah MacLean: There should be no surprise that I picked this one up this September. I’ve been making my way through this series and this one was just as fantastic. I’m so excited about the last for that is for sure. The romances are just brilliant and the characters and entertaining and fun to read.

Chicago Defiance MC Series #1-#8 by K.E. Osborn: I picked this one up simply because I felt like an MC read. I didn’t know too much about it, but it seemed interesting. I enjoyed reading this series overall. It was intense, full of romacne, unexpected events and everything else that I love about MC romances.

Explosive (Houston Defiance MC #1) by K.E. Osborn: I accidentally read this one before picking up the Chicago Defiance series, but it wasn’t a massive deal. This was an entertaining read and I loved reading it. It was a great MC book and I’m excited for book two – which is out in October.

In the Prince’s Bed (Royal Brotherhood #1) by Sabrina Jeffries: This is the next series that I plan to read by Sabrina Jeffires and it was fantastic. It was a great start and introduction into a new series and characters. I adored the romance and currently reading book 2 and loving it.

Psy-Changeling #3-#4 by Nalini Singh: I’m trying to read this series slowly but I just can’t help it. They are fantastic. I love the romances, the plot and everything else. But most of all I love the cubs and pups, they just make the scenes so much better. I’ve ordered the first few in the series but going to try and take it slow if I can.

Reaper (Ruthless Kings MC #1) by K.L. Savage: I needed some more MC romances in my life and this was available;e on Kindle Unlimited. It was an okay read and I plan to check out the second book in the series for sure, and then I will see if I will read more.

Tempting Lies (Tempt Me #4) by Sara Whitney: I just finished this one this morning and I had a great time reading it. It’s a fake romance book and it was enterating, hot and I liked reading it. I hadn’t read the rest of the books in the series but that didn’t take away from the reading experience at all.

Whoo! And those are all the books that I read this September. I finally feel like myself a little bit more. I’m still not working, but hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we open up and I can get back to selling books.

What did you read this September? Have you read anything that I did? What are you looking forward to next month? Let’s Chat!

I’m the total opposite this month. I’ve been reading, but so slowly. I feel like it’s taking 4-5 days to get through one book. I think my brain is just too busy with everything going on.
I’m glad your reading mojo is back. You’ve read some terrific books! I’m especially excited about you reading and loving Psy-Changeling! 😀

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
