Get To Know the Romance Reader | Book Tag

June 13, 2021 Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

By now, you all know how much I love reading romance books, so when Ely tagged me in this, I knew I had to do it. The ‘Get To Know the Romance Reader’ tag was created by Bree Hill over at Falling for Romance, you can check out the original post now. I haven’t done many romance tags before and I thought it would be lots of fun. Now let’s get into it.

1. What is your romance origin story? (How you came to read your first romance novel):  My romance journey is a pretty easy one. Most of what I read as a teen was fantasy and supernature, but then at 15/16ish I started to read contemporary – very slowly. And then as the time went on I wanted a little more and started to read New Adult – till eventually, I started to read romance. It was a slow change, but as soon as I started to read romance. And I never stopped.

2. If you could be the heroine in a romance novel, who would be the author and what’s one trope you’d insist be in the story? Ohh, this is such a good question there could be so many that I would pick. But I think Rebecca Yarros would be incredible at writing my story. I might have to go through a bit of pain, but the love that I would feel. I’ve given nearly every one of Rebecca’s books 4 or 5 stars, so I’m ready.

3. What is a romance you’ve read this year, that you want more people to read? Most of what I’ve read this year has been romance, so it’s a little hard to pick one. But If you haven’t read the Bergman Brothers series by Chloe Liese, then you need to get on it. I read Ever After Always earlier this year and adored it. I cannot wait till the rest of the series comes out.

4. What is your favourite romance subgenre? What subgenre have you not read much from? Ohh this is such a good question, but also such a hard one for me to answer. I actually prefer subgenre’s of romance, I rarely read straight contemporary romance. So anything from Sports and MC romances, to military and romance suspense. And then I can’t forget historical romance.

5. Who is one of your auto-buy romance authors? Hmm. Well, I would say Rebecca Yarros, but I feel like I should also talk about Sabrina Jeffries. I’ve read quite a number of books from her now and I have loved nearly everyone. I’m also loving her newest series – which I think is fantastic.

6. How do you typically find romance recommendations?  Everywhere! From Twitter and Instagram and youtube and bloggers, to now Tiktok. I love getting recommendations from anyone, but I love them even more if it’s a romance recommendation. But I think I get most of my recommendations from blogging friends.

7. What is an upcoming romance release you’re excited about? So many! But I can’t wait for Sarah MacLean’s Bombshell to come out. As well as Evie Dumore’s Portrait of a Scotsman. Other one’s I’m excited about are; The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune and Neon Gods (Dark Olympus #1) by Katee Robert.

8. What is one misconception about romance you would like to lay to rest? I could go on for hours and hours about this. But just the general negative connotation that romance has. That it’s just ‘sex.’ That is not good writing. Nothing happens. It’s all smut. That it’s not worth anything. I did a whole series late last year and this year, I interviewed romance authors to try and break down a little of the misconceptions of romance. You can check out the series here.

9. Who is the most recent romance reading content creator you came across that you’d like to shout out? I sadly haven’t had much time to find new romance content creators recently. But I thought I would share one of my favourites. Nick from The Infinite Limits Of Love has been one of my favourites for a very long time. She was one of the romance bloggers and romances bloggers that I came across. If you don’t follow Nick already get on it.

10. If someone had never read a romance before and asked you to recommend the first 3 romances that come to mind as places to start, what would those recommendations be? This is such a hard question. So I went with four! But I tried to pick four different books from different genres that I would recommend if someone came into my store. The books that I would pick are Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1) by Rebecca Yarros, The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune, Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers #1) by Lisa Kleypas and Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh

I had a lot of fun with this post and sharing all the things I love about romance. I tag anyone that wants to do it. Let me know when you do!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
