My Disappointing Reads Of 2021

My Disappointing Reads Of 2021

Jan 20, 2022

Today I thought I would share my disappointing reads of 2021. I don’t hate a lot of books, but there are some of the books that I thought I would enjoy and then didn’t. This could have been for all different reasons. From I didn’t like the writing style, the story didn’t capture me. Or I wasn’t able to connect with the characters. I also recently shared some of my favourite reads for 2021.

The books on this list aren’t necessarily bad books. But they weren’t for me. Most of the books on this list are romance, simply because that is nearly all I read last year. Some of these books are from authors that I’ve enjoyed before, some are from new-t0-me authors. So enough of this, let’s get right into it. These are my disappointing reads of 2021.

Custom Built (Fast & Fury #1) by Chantal Fernando: I was really upset when I didn’t end up liking this book. I’ve really enjoyed all the other Chantal Fernando books that I’ve read over the past few years. And on paper, this seems like my type of book. But it just didn’t.  I wasn’t able to really connect with either of the protagonists and while I did enjoy the romance.  I felt that there were 10 billion things going on and I could not keep up with it all.

Four by Sara Cate and Rachel Leigh: This one came up on my TikTok one day, and I grabbed it right away. But sadly this one wasn’t for me. I didn’t love the writing style, the romance was just okay. I managed to read it in a few hours, but it wasn’t what I was hoping it would be. The darker themes of this book were great. I think it’s one of the things that kept me reading. Overall, it was just okay.

Blind Landing (Flipped #1) by Carrie Aarons: I wanted a new type of sports romance to read and I’ve enjoyed books set during the Olympics before. But this one just was not it. The romance wasn’t there for me. It felt forced and I didn’t feel the connection. The pacing of the book also felt off to me. I really wanted to enjoy this one.

Vows of a Mobster by Eva Winners: This one started off strong and then about 40% in it just flipped. So many things were added to this book and the plot that I couldn’t get keep up. I seriously didn’t know what was going on at times. There were so many plot holes that it made it hard to enjoy when I was reading. Also, some very strange things happened towards the end, that really turned me off.

A Moment for Us (Willow Creek Valley #3) by Corinne Michaels: There is also a lot going on in this book. I felt that at times it was just a little too much. From the long time crush, the surprise pregnancy to his past. And then everything that happens to them both. I just didn’t feel that it was complete. The romance was just okay, it wasn’t fantastic, but I didn’t hate it. But I also felt like they didn’t fit with one another.

Medicine Man (Heartstone) by Saffron A. Kent: I went into this book, knowing that I might not enjoy it, but I kept an open mind. I quite enjoy age gap romances and that part of this book didn’t faze me at all. I just finished the book feeling cold. The romance didn’t spark anything for me. The characters feel flat and the story was blah.

And there we go. Those are some of my disappointing reads of 2021. Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? What were some of your disappointing reads of 2021? Let’s Chat!

2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To

2021 Releases I Was Excited to Read But Didn’t Get To

Jan 18, 2022

This week I’m sharing the 2021 releases that I was excited to read but didn’t get to. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I read a lot of books last year, but I still wasn’t able to get through everything that I wanted to read. So today, I’m sharing the books that were released last year that I didn’t pick up but wanted to. They are mostly romances, but young adult books that make an appearance. Anyway let’s go, as always these are in no order.

Bombshell (Hell’s Belles #1) by Sarah MacLean. | The Ex Hex (Ex Hex #1) by Erin Sterling | Her Soul to Take (Souls Trilogy #1) by Harley Laroux | Yes & I Love You (Say Everything #1) by Roni Loren.

Wild Rain (Women Who Dare #2) by Beverly Jenkins | Reel (Hollywood Renaissance #1) by Kennedy Ryan |Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo | The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun.

Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan | Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley.

And there we go. Those are the 2021 releases that I was excited about but wasn’t able to get to. I am really hoping that I can get to some of them this year. I actually do own most of them so that is a good start. What did you want to read last year but didn’t? Have you read anything on my list? Let’s Chat!

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!
