I don’t know what exactly happened to me this month, but I didn’t really read at all. I only read – books in June and it has to be one of my slowest months in a long time. Even December where I’m normally super busy and barely have time to read.
But now that I’m thinking about it – it makes sense. Normally around June/July every year I go into a reading slump – never as bad as this one, but it does happen. Anyway, let’s get into what I read this month.

Hard as It Gets (Hard Ink #1) by Laura Kaye: I didn’t read my first book of the month until a week in. This was the first week of lockdown and I was just writing posts and binge-watching tv shows. So I decided to re-read a series I know I’ve enjoyed. It’s okay, was trying to get out of my slump – didn’t help too much |
3 Stars
Hard as You Can (Hard Ink #2) by Laura Kaye: I moved onto book two to see if that would help, but from the start, it was looking to be one of my slowest reading months. This series is entertaining but nothing special |
3 Stars
Lore by Alexandra Bracken: Next I picked up mine and Ely’s recent buddy read and had such a good time. I really loved
Lore – you can check out our discussion on
Earl Grey Books in a few days. But this is a 4 star read for me |
4 Stars
For Vacation Only by Mila Nicks: I really wanted to love this one, but I didn’t fall in love with as much as I thought I would. I still had a great time reading it, but it was just missing something for me. The romance was adorable though and Blake and Jubilee were so good together |
3.5 Stars
Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas: This is another re-read that I did this month. I felt reading something a little different than I normally do, but didn’t feel like picking something new up. It was still as great as the first time I read it and if you want something a little taboo and has an age gap romance – this is for you |
3 Stars.
Punderworld, Volume 1 by Linda Šejić: I received an earc of this graphic novel and gosh I’m in love. Hades and Persephone and adorable and made my heart melt. I need to read the rest like now. Because the cuteness cannot be contained |
4 Stars.
Without You by Marley Valentine: This has been on my tbr for some time now and I just felt like something that would make me cry but was also feel good. I didn’t love this one as much as I thought I would. It just lacked a lot of things. I kept on waiting for something more – but nothing really |
2.5 Stars
Madison Kate #1 – #4 by Tate James: This series has been on my tbr for a little while now. It’s one that I have been very hesitant about because it’s not usually what I read, but with June being just such a slow reading month, I needed something to get me out of it – and this one did. I read the whole series in less than a week and now I can’t wait to read more books from Tate James. My series review is coming soon.
So while the start of the month did start out being the slowest I have had in a long time. I did finish the month on a high note. What did you read in June? Have you read anything that I did this month? Let’s Chat!

Hi, everyone! It’s Ely from Earl Grey Books, back here to share my next monthly post. Today I thought it would be fun to share some recommendations of the perfect books for each of the four seasons, so let’s jump in.
I don’t know what it is about this book that screams summer. I think it’s less so the actual story and more the fact that this is the sort of book to spend a hot summer’s day reading in a single day, or over a weekend. It’s not an easy read but it’s the kind of book that draws you in and won’t let you go until you’ve finished reading. It was one of my favourite books of last year and quite possibly a new all-time favourite too.
Okay so this one technically takes place in the Summer, but in my mind, it has these perfect Autumnal/Fall feelings to it. It takes place in Illinois, there are corn mazes and stuff-you know Autumn stuff right? Anyway, this is a truly gorgeous book and one of my all-time favourites. It’s a little strange as well, so perfect for reading around the Halloween season too.
Is there anything more wintery than the His Dark Materials series? No, no there isn’t. A lot of this series takes place in sort of would-be Scandinavia, there are polar bears as important characters and the Northern Lights. It’s all just very wintery in mind. Plus it’s the kind of book you want to read curled up with a blanket and a hot drink in front of the fire.
There’s something about Juliet Marillier’s books in general that make me think of Spring. They’re sort of a weird mix of a cosy and comforting read though some really dark stuff happens in the actual story. I think it might be the fae aspect, but the cover definitely plays a part in that too. This is admittedly not my favourite of Marillier’s but I think it’s a really great place to start with her books.
What books do you recommend for each of the seasons? Have you read any of these?
