Everything has a price…

Railway magnate Tom Severin is wealthy and powerful enough to satisfy any desire as soon as it arises. Anything—or anyone—is his for the asking. It should be simple to find the perfect wife—and from his first glimpse of Lady Cassandra Ravenel, he’s determined to have her. But the beautiful and quick-witted Cassandra is equally determined to marry for love—the one thing he can’t give.

Everything except her…

Severin is the most compelling and attractive man Cassandra has ever met, even if his heart is frozen. But she has no interest in living in the fast-paced world of a ruthless man who always plays to win.

When a newfound enemy nearly destroys Cassandra’s reputation, Severin seizes the opportunity he’s been waiting for. As always, he gets what he wants—or does he? There’s one lesson Tom Severin has yet to learn from his new bride:

Never underestimate a Ravenel.

The chase for Cassandra’s hand may be over. But the chase for her heart has only just begun…

Chasing Cassandra:

I received an e-arc of Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas from Avon Books via Edelweiss. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

All last year I binge-read most of Lisa Kleypas’ historical romances and become addicted. I loved everything that I read. They are fun, but heartbreaking at times. They put a smile on my face and the romances are adorable. And you can’t forget about the amazing friendships and family bonds. So I was pretty excited when Cassandra was getting her own book in the last book in ‘The Ravenels’ series. From the start, Cassandra caught my eye and I couldn’t wait to see her fall in love. And I was disappointed.

Chasing Cassandra follows Lady Cassandra Ravenel, the last of the family that we haven’t seen fall in love yet. When she catches the attention of Tom Severin he thinks he knows what he wants. But Cassandra will only marry for love – and that is the one thing that Tom can’t give her. When Cassandra’s reputation is on the brink of being destroyed, Tom knows it’s his time to step in. But Tom shouldn’t have expected it to be that easy.

Florian van Duyn

I love Lady Cassandra with every fibre of me. She was just fantastic. I loved that she didn’t give in so easily to Tom and that she stayed true to herself throughout the whole book. Cassandra was fun to read about and I loved her idealist nature. Normally that isn’t a trait that I like reading about in my female protagonist, but there was something different about Cassandra that it didn’t take away from the story. While we know Cassandra pretty well before this book begins. The reader only really knows her from other characters point of views. So it was fantastic being about to see her in a new light.

Tom Severin was a really interesting character throughout Chasing Cassandra. Like Cassandra, the reader has met Tom before, however not in a very good light. I always knew that he was going to fall for one of the Ravenels, but wasn’t sure which. And even though Cassandra and Tom are very different. They bring out the best in one another. Tom doesn’t believe in love, family or anything. And Cassandra challenges everything that Tom believes it. I adored seeing Tom have this challenge and while he did his way when he marries Cassandra. She doesn’t fall for his charm and he has to work his way into her heart. One of the main reasons why I loved Tom so much was that he felt very real. He had all these faults and that is what made him feel very human.

I think that is one of the misconceptions with historical romance that the characters are all the same and that they are perfect. But Lisa Kleypas breaks down those walls and explores the realness of her characters and allows them to have fantastic characterisation and a brilliant character arc.

Sara Darcaj

The romance in Chasing Cassandra was adorable. I loved seeing both Tom and Cassandra fall for one another. And while it was a conventional romance, I loved that they both took it and went with it. Both Cassandra and Tom had so much respect for one another, even if they had funny ways of showing it. And getting to see them fall not only in love but become something more was fantastic.  There was a couple of times throughout the novel that Tom did get on my nerves but Cassandra was able to knock a couple of those legs down and help him understand a different way of life and that was fantastic.

Like most of Lisa Kleypas’ other novels, family and friendship are a massive theme throughout Chasing Cassandra. It’s one of my favourite things about Kleypas’ books. While set in a different time and about things that don’t occur that much today, family and friendship is an ongoing theme that is relatable. I love the Ravenels and they shine once again throughout this novel. It was seriously fantastic.

But it wasn’t just them the reader gets to know as family. Tom is now apart of this family and while he doesn’t see it like that at first. As the novel goes on and he and Cassandra become even closer – well he starts to think differently. And it’s not just them that he starts to see as family, but some others as well. It’s always nice seeing a hardass male lead that swears he doesn’t have family start to care for people like family.

Peter Mason

Overall I loved Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas. Tom and Cassandra brought some light into my world and it made everything a little better. The romance is adorable and I loved seeing both Tom and Cassandra fall for one another. This was a fantastic final book in the Ravenels series and wrapped up everything so well. Lisa Kleypas knows how to write addicting storylines, beautiful romances and books that will leave the reader with a smile on their face. If you haven’t picked up historical romance but want to Lisa Kleypas is the perfect way to start.

Books I Bought Because Of Work

Books I Bought Because Of Work

Apr 7, 2020

This week I’m sharing the books that I bought because of work.  Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

If you didn’t know already, I’m a bookseller. I have been for nearly 4 years now. So for a few days of the week, I spend my day in a bookstore selling books. It’s literally my favourite thing to do. But I don’t just “sell” books.  I process books, I order them and well sometimes, I end up buying them. Today I’m sharing the books I bought because of work.

I haven’t read all of these yet, but I’ve read a good handful of them. That is the problem with working in a bookstore. I can get books just so easily. There are also books on here that aren’t my usual jam on this list. Customers are sometimes very perspective as well as sometimes these books don’t get on my radar on their own. Anyway like always these are in no order.

The Love That I Have by James Moloney: I would have probably picked this book up eventually, but it was my works ‘Book of the Month’ so it jumped right out me and I bought it. And I ended up adoring this book. It was hard to read don’t get me wrong. However, it was also gorgeous, heartbreaking and beautiful.

Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton: This one here is a combo of working and the general bookish community especially here in Australia. This one really flew off the shelf and then it started to win all the awards and it made it even harder to have any copies in the store. But it wasn’t just because people were buying, I was hearing absolutely fantastic things about it. I have still yet to read it, but I will very soon.

The Pearl Thief by Fiona McIntosh: Now I had heard of Fiona McIntosh before I even started working, but I never really picked her up. I always felt that I was ‘too young’ and nothing really caught my eye. And then The Pearl Thief came out and it was right up my alley. So I bought it and well, it was fantastic. I always love reading as many books as I can about the second world war and this one really stood out to me and it was heartbreaking but breathtaking.

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1) by J.R. Ward: Now this one caught my eye here and there before I even thought about picking it up. I had so many customers rave about it to me and well I wanted to see what it was like. So I bought then the first one, and then the second and well. I’ve nearly read the whole series. I can’t stop! I love it when customers recommend me books and I end up loving it!

Dragon’s Lair (Wind Dragons MC #1) by Chantal Fernando: Another one of my buys that was influenced by my customers. Customers just kept on recommending to me, at this point I really hadn’t read too much MC books. So I gave it a go. And you know what? I really enjoyed this series. It’s fun, dangerous and sexy and that is a great combo.

The French Photographer by Natasha Lester: This is another ‘Book of the Months’ that caught my eye. I don’t think I would have picked this one up if I hadn’t been working. It was such a fantastic historical fiction read and I’m so glad that I did give it a go. Like most WWII books it made me ball my eyes out, but it was fantastic. Inspired by the true story of Lee Miller and that made it much more impactful.

Misadventures of the First Daughter (Misadventures, #3) by Meredith Wild and Mia Michelle: This is one of the books that I bought and it wasn’t for me. Again I had seen a lot of my regular romance customers pick books in this series up and I thought why not give it a go – I read 3 and I don’t think they were for me. From the books that I did read, they were all 1-2 stars.

MinaLima’s Illustrated Classics: These are absolutely beautiful and I cannot stop buying them. I’d seen MinaLima work before and thought they were beautiful but never really paid attention. And then I saw these gorgeous interactive classics and I needed them. My goal is to collect all of them, and I will do it! So far the Beauty and the Beast one has to be my favourite – but they are all gorgeous and I can’t wait to see what they bring out next.

The Light After the War by Anita Abriel: I don’t know much about this one, but it caught my eye when I walking through the store and then I bought it. It’s a historical fiction set during and after the second world war that also has romance and friendship. You have me there. Also influenced by the author’s mother’s experience escaping the train to Auschwitz with her best friend.

The Art of Harry Potter by Marc Sumerak: I don’t think I would have ever bought this book if I hadn’t seen it on the shelf at work. This is such a gorgeous book that explores everything from the Harry Potter movies and I adore it. It’s big and bold and I love just sitting and flicking through it. It really is beautiful.

And that is it for this post! Those are the books that I bought because of work. What are some of the books that others have made you buy? Let’s Chat!

A Slow Reading Month | March Wrap Up

A Slow Reading Month | March Wrap Up

Apr 2, 2020

March was my slowest reading month so far this year. There are a few reasons for that. Firstly with everything going on in the world my head has been all over the place and I’ve been finding it really hard to concentrate, but I think I’m finally out of that groove. Then there is life and health that have just interfered with everything as well.

I read mostly contemporary and romance books in March which I’m totally okay with. I always find that they are easier to read when my mind is all over the place. Like always these are in no order, here are the 8 books that I read in March.

Burn Zone (Hotshots #1) by Annabeth Albert: I read some of Annabeth Albert’s books last year and whole they aren’t the best books out there. They are fun and addicting, so when I hear she was bringing a new series out about hotshot firefighters. I needed it. I’m excited to see where she takes this series.

Chasing Cassandra (The Ravenels #6) by Lisa Kleypas: I’ve been waiting to read this one since I finished most of Lisa Kleypas’ books last year. And it didn’t disappoint. I adored Cassandra and the romance was just as addicting as her other books. Kleypas knows how to write romances that are beautiful and hits you right in the heart. If you haven’t had the chance to pick any historical romance books up, start with Lisa Kleypas.

The Rich Boy by Kylie Scott: I’ve really enjoyed Kylie Scott books in the past and this one was no different. A fun read that delves a little deeper. I loved the play on cinderella here, as well as the play on ‘rags to riches.’ I adored both Alice and Beck and the romance was super adorable. You can check out my full review now as well.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare: This is one of the books that Ely picked for me for my ‘best friend chooses my tbr’. I had planned to read it anyway, I just seemed to never get around to it. But I love these stories so much. There were ones I was more interested in than others, but overall it was a great collection.

Bringing Down the Duke (A League of Extraordinary Women #1) by Evie Dunmore: I had so much fun reading this book. I hadn’t read any books set around the suffrage movement so that caught me from the start. But this book was fantastic. The romance was so perfect and adorable and I loved it so hard. I cannot wait to read more in this series and from Evie Dunmore. I just saw the cover and synopsis for the second book and gimme!

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales: This one crept up on me. It wasn’t really on my radar, but then I kept on hearing about it and needed it to pick it up. And I’m so glad that I did, it was fantastic. The romance had it’s up and downs but I still really loved reading it. Plus it’s a #LoveOzYA.

Danger Zone (The Elite #1) by Brooke Blaine and Ella Frank: This is another pair of authors that I read last year and enjoyed while I read. So when I heard they were writing a series about fighter pilots – well. I really enjoyed military fiction after reading Rebecca Yarros’ books so I’m always looking for books similar to them. This new series my Blaine and Frank follows mainly Solo and Panther and they are just as intense as I want them to be.

Need for Speed (The Elite #2) by Brooke Blaine and Ella Frank: After the cliffhanger of the first book I jumped straight into book 2 and bam! Blaine and Frank are able to write fantastic M/M romances and I love it. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next books especially with that ending!

And that is for the books that I read in March! What are the books that you picked up? Do we share any that is the same? Let’s Chat!

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
