Boozer, brawler, ladies’ man – nineteen-year-old Harris Derwent is not a good guy.

His one attempt to play the hero – helping out his old flame, Rachel Watts – has landed him in hospital. Now injured, broke, and unemployed, he’s stuck back in the country, at his father’s mercy. Harris needs to pay off his dad’s debts, and fast. But working as a runner for a drug cartel is a dangerous path – especially if Harris agrees to narc…

Eighteen-year-old Amita Blunt is the perfect police sergeant’s daughter – practical, trustworthy, and oh-so responsible. Getting involved in Harris’s case was never part of the plan. But working at the hospital, she’s invisible – which makes her the ideal contact for a boy feeding information back to the police…

Harris and Amie’s connection is sizzling hot – but if the cartel finds out about them, things could get downright explosive. Backed into a corner, with everything at stake, it’s time for Harris and Amie to find out if love really has no limits…

No Limits:

I received an a-arc of No Limits by Ellie Marney from Ellie Marney in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

If you have known me over the last couple of years, then you should know my love for the ‘Every Series’ by Ellie Marney. I can talk about it all day and it’s one of the first #LoveOzYA that I recommend to someone. So when I had the chance to delve deeper into Ellie’s world, I knew I needed to read it.

Quick note, you don’t need to read the ‘Every Series’ before you read No Limits. It just helps with a few things along the way.

No Limits follows Harris Derwent, as he recovers from a not so nice incident. Now in the hospital, in pain and going to have to live with his father, his life isn’t looking that great. But Amita might just change that. She is the sergeant’s daughter, responsible, smart and trust worthy. The last thing she thought she would be doing is helping Harris Derwent. Then things start to heat up and not just between Harris and Amie, but so much more.

I have so many feelings about this book, that I don’t even know how much of this review is going to make any sense. I already had a soft spot for Harris when we meet him in the ‘Every Series,’ that before I even started I was intrigued. And then I started reading and fell in love. Throughout No Limits, it’s like you are holding on tight waiting for bad things to happen – and gosh do they.

Harris, can I please just give him one massive long hug – or maybe multiple. One of the main reasons why No Limits was such a hard book to read was because of Harris. Every page that he was on, I felt that his heart was along with it. I wanted to scream so many times that he isn’t worthless, that he deserves so much more. However, I did love this character arc. I felt that he grew so much that I just feel in love with him even more.

Harris is your bad boy with a lost soul – he is hard to connect with at times, but you know that he is damaged. And as the novel goes on, you just break. Can we also please take a moment to just talk about his tattoo? I am a tattoo girl through and through and my lord did this scene kill me. I just wanted to touch it. Like gosh.

I fell in love with Amie’s character right away. I was able to connect with her love for her family and the way that she wears her heart on her sleeve. While I did love how Amie cared so much for her family, I wanted her to think about herself more. Like Harris, Amie’s character development was just so good that I loved seeing her grow and find out more about herself and the world around her.

Romance time – Ellie Marney just knows how to write a couple that is swoony and makes you melt. I felt this was more mature than the ‘Every Series,’ but you are still able to read this a young adult. I loved how Amie and Harris slowly but carefully fell for each other. They connected in ways that were a whole new level for them.

I loved how much Amie cared for Harris and his well-being before even she realised it. I liked how Harris started to fall for Amie and found out more about himself in the process. It was great seeing this friendship start to turn into something more that pulled at my heartstrings.

Another great thing about No Limits was both the writing and plot. I loved the crime and mystery elements of the book that made everything that more interesting. It was like a car at the edge of a cliff where it could fall at any time. Things defiantly got intense towards the end and gosh it was good. I love how simple yet captivating Ellie’s writing is – I will read anything by her.

Family was a massive theme of No Limits and while I love having great family banter. I liked that we were able to see two sides of a coin in this novel. Harris and his father – these scenes pulled my heart out. I was broken. It was very heart wrenching and difficult most of the time.  Like very hard. Family abuse in the country especially is common and goes past people so much.

Amie’s family, on the other hand, was loving and caring. I adored the relationship she had with her father and grandmother – it picked at my heart in a good way. However, I also think that other’s in her family expected way too much from her. I hated the pressure they put on Amie, especially as she is so young. It’s like I can’t stop my life, but hey Amie can.

No Limits Quote

I’ve talked about this before, but I love how Aussie Ellie makes her books and No Limits is no different. I loved how it was set in the county, how there were things that only Aussies will know. It just makes such a good #LoveOzYA. We are able to see our beautiful country in a young adult book with no frills involved.

Overall, please pick No Limits up. It takes you on an incredible journey that you never want to stop. The characters are layered and have amazing development. You fell for them with every fiber in your body. You are on the edge of your seat, you understand, you feel. The reader will go on this emotional ride that is really hard, but gosh does it hit you. The characters are likable, the writing is just so damn good. All I say is give this #LoveOzYA a try, trust me you won’t be disappointed.

No Limits by Ellie Marney is about second chances, falling in love and finding yourself. It’s about friendship and falling. You are taken on a ride that both tears you apart and then puts you slowly back together. It’s heartbreaking and breathtaking. No Limits made me cry, break and fall in love.

TV Review: Shadowhunters 2×19 ‘Hail and Farewell’

Shadowhunters: Season 2 Episode 18

Episode Name:  Hail and Forever
Release date: 7 August, 2017
Running Time: 42 minutes
Starring Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Will Tudor, Isaiah Mustafa, Harry Shum Jr.
Directed By: Matthew Hastings
Watch: Freeform (US) – Netflix (Worldwide)
Episode Reviews: Season 1 | Season 2

With Valentine and Sebastian on the loose, the Downworlders come together to make a surprising choice.

Hail and Farewell:

With only one more week to the season finale, things are definitely getting intense. After last weeks episode, I knew that everyone in the Insitute will be on edge. Actually not just in the institute, but the whole of the shadow world.

With Valentine and Sebastian still on the loose, everyone is out there to find them or kill them. Clary finds a way to track them, while tension is still high between Magnus and Alec. The downworlders are making hard decisions.

Clary

I felt that Hail and Farewell was a really big episode for Clary. Throughout the series so far we make her way through the shadow world, navigate her news skills and angel powers, and all the ups and downs.

Clary had to really stand up for herself and those she has come to love in Hail and Farewell. She had to harness her both her angel powers and those she has had to learn as a shadowhunter. I really enjoyed Clary in this episode. I loved her strength and her power.

Clary and Jace

We get a really powerful moment between these two in Hail and Farewell and I am terrified to see what is come with these two. I really felt the chemistry between the two in this episode, especially in that particular scene.

I also liked that we got to see a different side of both Clary and Jace. We get to see them connect and really show their feelings.

Magnus and Alec

There is still lots of tension between Magnus and Alec, and we could really feel in Hail and Farewell.  It’s still very raw and real and I liked how this tension was portrayed.

Their relationship shows the difference between shadowhunters and downworlders. It shows the tension, the different way that they are treated and the hierarchy.

Sebastian

Things are getting worse and worse with Sebastian. We see how angry, crazy and how the demon blood has changed him.

There was this amazing scene with Jace and Sebastian that was just so good to watch! My eyes were glued to my screen and I loved it.

Shadowhunters

There were some amazing fight scenes in Hail and Farewell. I loved how Jace and Alec worked together, as well as Izzy and Clary. I loved seeing the shadowhunters in action. It was fun, intense and made the episode that more interesting. I cannot wait to see what next season brings. I think it’s going to pretty epic.

Overall

Hail and Farewell, was intense and kept me waiting on the edge. There was tension everywhere we went and that just made it more interesting. I loved it. Clary and Jace, Magnus and Alec, Shadowhunters and downworlders. And that ending! Next week, is going to be crazy and I cannot wait.

Last 5 Books I’ve Read #2

Last 5 Books I’ve Read #2

Aug 5, 2017

For the last month, I’ve either been in a reading slump or a contemporary mood. It’s been a very few busy couple of weeks for me. I’ve started back at uni, and have been trying to maintain a balance between that, my bookshop job and my internship. It’s been a little crazy and I’ve only been able to read a couple of books.

But, I am feeling a little bit better at the moment and I think it’s slowly starting to simmer down – until the end of August and Melbourne Writers Festival that is. However, other than that – I am good.

So today, I thought I would share the last five books that I have read.  That have all been contemporary, and two are re-reads.

Point of Origin by Rebecca Yarros: It’s been ten years since the wildfire that turned their small town to ashes, taking the lives of fathers and their elite hotshot crew.

It’s been six years since Sebastian Vargas since left the town and Emerson Kendrick behind. Breaking her heart and leaving without an explanation. And now he is back.

Bash is trying to bring back the old Hot Shot crew, with the 10-year anniversary coming up, time is ticking. But him being back doesn’t just bring memories of all those who died.

Emerson and Bash and like fire together and fire burns. Can they come together or will their past year them apart.

Last 5 Books I've Read - Aug

Ignite by Rebecca Yarros:  Colorado is calling him home, needing every Legacy-born firefighter to successfully rebuild their fathers’ team. In Legacy, Colorado, River Maldonado buried his father alongside his elite Hotshot team.

In Legacy, Colorado, River Maldonado buried his father alongside his elite Hotshot team. Ten years later, he has followed in his footsteps—fighting fires in the mountains of Alaska with his brother.

Amid the flames, nothing ignites River like Avery Claire. She’s stubborn, strong, sexy as hell, and his best friend. She also has no idea that River is in love with her.

Last 5 Books I've Read - AugTied Up To You by Erin Fletcher: After an ‘accidental’ kiss, both Luke Jackson and Malina Hall know they’re in trouble.

Luke and Malina have been best friends for some time now, but that’s all it has been. Expect Luke has always known how amazing Malina is. After, their kiss, everything is a little … awkward. But, she likes him too right? Yet, even if they get together will it work? He is the next big star in hockey, and now one of his team mates has shown some interest in Malina.

As her best friend, Jackson should get out of the way. But if there’s one thing he’s learned from hockey, it’s that you have to go for what you want, even if it means falling flat on your face.

Last 5 Books I've Read - Aug

Rebel by Rebecca Yarros: She’ll defy his every expectation.

She’s Penna Carstairs. The Renegade they call Rebel. There’s no rule in extreme sports she hasn’t broken, no gender barrier she hasn’t demolished.

When Penelope and Cruz met in a bar in Vegas, the last thing he thought they would so is illegally BASE jump. And spent quite a night together and now Cruz can’t get Penna out of his head.

But things are about to get interesting. Because he is Dr. Cruz Delgado—the youngest professor on their ship, and Penelope Carstairs just walked into his class.

Last 5 Books I've Read - AugNo Limits by Ellie Marney: A companion novel to her ‘Every’ trilogy, No Limits follows Harris Derwent who isn’t exactly the good guy.

After his unsuccessful attempt to help Rachel Watts, Harris has landed himself in hospital and unemployed. He is still stuck in the country and at his father’s peril. He needs to make money fast and being a runner for a drug cartel is where Harris lands himself.

Amita Blunt is the police sergeant’s daughter. Getting involved in Harris’s case was never part of the plan. But working at the hospital, she’s invisible – which makes her the ideal contact for a boy feeding information back to the police…

Backed into a corner, with everything at stake, it’s time for Harris and Amie to find out if love really has no limits…

I am also currently reading – or listening to Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel. I am absolutely loving it. There is about 2 hours to go and just wow things are intense alright. I never thought I would get into audio books, but they are amazing for train rides – which I do about 4 times a week or so.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
