Episode Reviews: Season 1 | Season 2

Simon goes down a dark path while Alec and team prepares to transport Valentine. Aline makes a visit

A Problem of Memory:

This week was intense. I know I say this all the time, but gosh. There was a lot going on in A Problem with Memory, but it all seemed to fit. There are still very high emotions from the last episode at the Seelie Court and it’s not going to go away anytime soon. Clary is trying to talk to Simon, Jace is trying to talk to Clary and Simon is avoiding everyone. Simon turns down a dark path and makes A Problem with Memory so true.

While the tension is hitting boiling point between those three, Valentine’s transfer is imminent and the whole Institute is on edge. Plus Sebastian is up to his usual tricks.

Clary and Simon

A lot of A Problem with Memory focused on Clary and Simon’s relationship and how they are going to go on after last week. To those that have read the books a lot of the tension between these two – we knew about. However,  it was hard to see. I love the friendship between these two and to see them both so distraught was heartbreaking. Nevertheless, I felt that both Clary and Simon grew in this episode and I hope to see more of that.

Simon

Simon had it real hard this episode. We get to see another side of him, his vampire side really comes out and while I didn’t love seeing it. Seeing him be a vampire was great. We also get to see a side of the shadow world that we haven’t seen before. A side that is horrible and dangerous.

Sebastian

Wow. Wow. Wow. This episode the viewer really got to see the side of Sebastian that we all hate. We see that he is deceiving and will stop and nothing to get what he wants. He is horrible and it was great to see that.

Readers would know what he is like, but the show really took that and created this character that is very much Sebastian.

Ending

I am very confused. Like I don’t know where they are going with this. I really don’t. I am happy to see what they do. But I am a little confused.

Overall

I enjoyed this episode. There was a lot of character development and tension that really grew in A Problem with Memory. The tension between Clary, Simon, and Jace is growing, but I am excited to see where they go. Sebastian – holy. Excited to see where this season goes, only 5 episodes left I think.

Bernice Aurora Wescott has one thing she doesn’t want anyone to know: her name. That is until Bee meets Levi, the local golden boy who runs a charity organization called The Color Project.

Levi is not at all shy about attempting to guess Bee’s real name; his persistence is one of the many reasons why Bee falls for him. But while Levi is everything she never knew she needed, giving up her name would feel like a stamp on forever. And that terrifies her.

When unexpected news of an illness in the family drains Bee’s summer of everything bright, she is pushed to the breaking point. Losing herself in The Color Project—a world of weddings, funerals, cancer patients, and hopeful families that the charity funds—is no longer enough. Bee must hold up the weight of her family, but to do that, she needs Levi. She’ll have to give up her name and let him in completely or lose the best thing that’s ever happened to her.

The Color Project:

I received an earc of The Color Project by Sierra Abrams for review as part of The Color Project Blog Tour. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

Stay until the end to win a copy of The Color Project.

I’ve been looking forward to this one for quite some time. It sounded like my type of contemporary novel. What I didn’t expect was to cry like a baby and grin like an idiot at the same time. The Color Project is a whirlwind of emotions, you are taken for a ride and it’s a little crazy.

The Color Project follows protagonist Bee as starts a new job, meets a new boy and has her life changed forever. Bee has only started working at the flower shop when her car breaks down, but when she goes to get it fixed, she is transfixed by someone new – Levi. Levi likes to wear bring shirts and when no at the repair shop, all his time goes into The Color Project. When then someone in her family gets sick, and everything falls apart.

Bee was a very interesting character to read along with. I felt that I could connect with her in a lot of ways. We liked a lot of the same things and I felt that if we knew each other in real life – we would be great friends. In saying this I also felt that Bee was very stubborn and that really hindered me liking her at times. I just wanted to shake her all about and knock some sense into her. However, I felt that Bee had a really nice character arc and I enjoyed seeing her journey.

Levi, please can he be mine? He was adorable, strong and just made my heart skip a beat. I loved getting to know Levi, he had many layers that I liked finding out about. However, at times I felt that he only looked at things one way and that took away from him.

The romance in The Color Project was totally adorable. I liked seeing Levi and Bee fall for each other. It was slow and nice to see, two young characters fall like they did. At times I did cringe, not because it was bad. But, because I could see things coming between then.

The Color Project had a massive focus on family and friends. And although there was a little bit of ‘the bad family,’ there was also so much love. I loved the dynamics of Bee’s family and how at a time of need they were all there. It was beautiful.

Although I did really like The Color Project, I did feel that the writing was lacking a little. That doesn’t mean it was bad. I just wanted someone more. I feel as Sierra Abrams novels go on, her writing will only become better and better. It’s a great start and I cannot wait to see more.  I wasn’t a massive fan of all the talking that Bee did to us.  Nevertheless, I think there is potential.

Overall, I really enjoyed The Color Project. I feel in love with the characters and where they wanted to go. It’s a really good debut novel from a young author. The Color Project explores the notions of family, friendship and first love. It’s heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time, it’s real and raw.

High School in Aussie YA | #LoveOzYABloggers

High School in Aussie YA | #LoveOzYABloggers

Jul 4, 2017

Today I am participating in #LoveOZYA first #LoveOzYABloggers meme. It’s a fortnightly feature that promotes Aussie YA, with a new theme every time. This week’s theme is High School.

So today I thought I would share three of my favourite Aussie YA books that feature high school. There is obviously a lot more. But, here are some that I have loved over the last couple of years.

There is something that really happens to me when I read books set in Australia that feature high school. It feels like home. And I know that sounds so wired. But for so many years I was reading about a school system that I had no idea about. I just went along with it and tried not to focus too much on the school elements. But, then I started reading YA with Aussie schools and gosh it worked so well.

#LoveOzYABloggers - High SchoolThe Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub: Here we see a real focus on coming of age, of finishing high school and I loved it. The Yearbook Committee follows five very different students as they come together to complete the yearbook for the end of year 12. This book is full of friendships, breakdowns, romance, family and everything else. With a real focus on their last year of school. The reader gets to see the highs and lows of someone leaving high school and going into the big world. Don’t forget to check out my review and my interview with Sarah Ayoub.

#LoveOzYABloggers - High School

Life in Outer Space by Melissa Keil:  I really enjoy this one as we get to see those in the middle of their high school journey – sorta. Life in Outer Space follows protagonist Sam Kinnison and his geeky ways. He loves horror movies, writes movie scripts and doesn’t care much for girls, but then Camilla comes into his life – and well, things start to change. The reader is able to witness mundane things in an Aussie high school and it was just great | Life in Outer Space Review, The Secret Science of Magic Review.

#LoveOzYABloggers - High SchoolWhen Micheal Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah: This one is a little different, although it focuses on racism and asylum seekers, we do get a bit of focus on private schools in Australia. When Michael Met Mina follows protagonists Michael and Mina as they go on a journey of friendship, love, hardships of being different from everyone else. They learn to stand up for themselves, each other and what they believe in | Review.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
