Blog Tour | Kiss and Make Up Series by Sara Ney

Welcome to my stop on the Kiss and Make Up Series and blog tour. I’ve had the chance to read Kissing in Cars and hope to read more in the series soon. Stay tuned for an excerpt from the series.

Will she, or won’t she…

Studious and (mostly) sensible, the only thing Molly Wakefield wants to do is get through Senior Year and graduate. Well, that and hit the beach in her spare time. Okay, fine – and go shopping every once in a while for a new dress… (and who could blame her?)

And things are going according to plan – until the day she spies Weston McGrath, handsome star athlete and scholar, spying on her in study hall.

A tad creepy? Maybe.
Thrilling? Absolutely.

You see, Weston McGrath happens to be one guy no one can get close to.

Despite her best efforts to avoid it (because let’s face it – the guy isn’t exactly “boyfriend material”) Molly and Weston form a friendship.
And more….
Sort of.
But it’s a friendship that comes with a price – because Weston just cannot seem to stop screwing things up. Or saying all the wrong things. Possibly in that order…
And who has time for an 18-year-old “fixer-upper” that should know better?
Not Molly.
Or does she?

Excerpt

I am lying in bed, staring at my ceiling.

No matter how hard I try, it’s impossible to fall asleep. It will not come to me.

Glancing at my clock, I note the time: 12:17 a.m. Groaning, I flop to my side and grab the iPod off my bedside table, put in the earbuds, and click to my “Mellow” playlist.

Letting out a long breath I hadn’t realised I was holding in, I close my eyes and give in to what I’ve been fighting all day long: the image of Weston. The undeniable attraction I feel. The flutters I felt throughout my whole body when I caught him watching me.

And the ache in my heart that knows he’s not the dating kind.

Book Review: Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

Bailey “Mink” Rydell has met the boy of her dreams. They share a love of films and talk all day – Alex is perfect. Well, apart from the fact that they’ve never actually met . . . and neither of them knows the other’s real name.

When Bailey moves to sunny California to live with her dad, who happens to live in the same town as Alex, she decides to track him down. But finding someone based on online conversations alone proves harder than Bailey thought, and with her irritating but charismatic (and potentially attractive?) colleague Porter Roth distracting her at every turn, will she ever get to meet the mysterious Alex?

Alex, Approximately:

I received a review copy of Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennet from Simon and Schuster in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influcued my thoughts and feelings about the book.

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been hearing a lot of things about Alex, Approximately.  And gosh did it live up to its hype. Alex, Approximately is fun, heartfelt and put a smile on my face. With friendship, romance, family and hidden identities, you are in for a ride.

Alex, Approximately follows protagonist Bailey as she moves to California to live with her father. But she isn’t just about to move across the country, she is moving to the same place as the ‘Alex’ the guy she has been talking to online for quite some time. However, she hasn’t told him. Then she gets a job at the local museum, but she had a major dislike for Porter – or does she?

I cannot explain how much I loved this book. From the first page, I was enthralled and taken on a journey with Bailey as she begins her new journey.

I totally clicked with Bailey as a protagonist and I immediately wanted to take this journey with her and wanted to know what was going to happen next. I loved that she was hesitant, that she wasn’t sure of herself or even where she wanted to go. When Bailey questioned who she was and her passion for movies and what they explore was so fun to see.

Can Porter please be mine…please? From the get go, I was intrigued by Porter. His working in a museum, but from the outside he doesn’t seem the type. But as the novel goes on and Bailey gets to know him. Everything unfolds. Porter is so sweet! At times he is shy but then acts as the ‘popular guy.’  I loved the interaction not just between Porter and Bailey, but everyone else. He is so full of love and compassion and he is fun.

Alex

The romance was adorable.  Porter and Bailey have to be on my otp list. I loved the innocents between the two. From the start, you could tell they cared for one another but didn’t realise it. I loved seeing their relationship unfold and see their feelings come to the surface.

I loved the concept of this book. I’ve meet a lot of my friends via social media so it was nice to see it shown in a positive light. Yes, it can be horrible talking to people online and it not being them. But, the relationship that Alex and Minx have is adorable. I love that they share a love for movies and their conversations are so cute.

Alex, Approximately also has a good sense of family and friendship throughout. I loved Bailey’s relationship with her father, even though at the start they are getting used to each other again. I loved the banter between the two. However, what was up with her mother? Where was she?

Overall, Alex, Approximately was a fantastic read. From the first chapter, I was invested with the characters and I wanted to know their stories. I wanted them to fall in love, and make friendships. Alex, Approximately explores the notions of love, family and finding yourself. With intriguing characters, a plot that had you on the edge of your seat and writing that kept you right there. It’s a must-read for those who love a little romance and friendship that has been built for a while.

I could write so much more about this book, but please do pick it up and read it. Have you read Alex, Approximately yet? What did you think of it? Are you planning on reading it? Let’s Chat!

Top Ten Unique Books I’ve Read

Top Ten Unique Books I’ve Read

Unique

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone join as you please. This week’s topic is: Top Ten Unique Books I’ve Read.

I found this week really hard. Not because I haven’t read unique books, but because that maybe the books that I think are unique aren’t. In saying that, this list of books are unique to me. And it might not be the whole book that is unique, but something about it. Like always these are in no order.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: I think that anything that Laini will write will be unique. There is something about both the way she writes and the worlds that she creates, that are unique. I just fall in love with everything that she does | Full Review.

Unique Books - Strange

The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig: Time travel through maps on private ships…yer pretty unique there. This was one of my favourite books that I read last year for many reasons. 1. How unique the concept was. 2. It was set in Hawaii | Full Review

And I Darken by Kiersten White: If if you didn’t know I love History. It’s one of my favourite things in the world. I could spend hours watching documentaries about Ancient Greece, the dynasties of Kings. I love it. So when I heard this was set in the Ottoman Empire and it was a gender switch for Vlad the Implaer. I knew I needed it | Full Review

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab: This is only a recent read of mine, but the world is absolutely fantastic. The love the ideas of magic, and different worlds and how everything comes together. I love the characters and just how unique everything is, but works so well.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys: Although setting a book during WWII isn’t unique, what the book centred around was. It covers the worst maritime disaster every and not many people know about. This book was heartbreaking, brought me to tears, but it was also beautiful and hopeful | Full Review.

Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier: This #LoveOZYA book is magical and heartbreaking. Set during the 1750s, it’s not something you see a lot in YA – neither are the things that happen.

Vigilante by Kady Cross: Although the main plot of this one isn’t unique – what happens because of it is. The protagonist here, driven by grief and rage decides to take things into her own hands. It’s rare that we get a vigilante in a YA contemporary | Full Review.

The Impossible Story of Olive in Love by Tonya Alexandra: Although I didn’t like this book. The concept behind the novel was interesting. Where a girl cannot be seen by anyone, but her true love. It’s so intriguing and what first pulled me towards the book | Full Review

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
