Top Ten Books I Read In One Day

Top Ten Books I Read In One Day

Mar 21, 2017

TTT - One Day

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone join as you please. This week’s topic is: Top Ten Books I Read in One Day

This weeks theme is all about reading in one sitting or along those lines. And to tell you the truth, I do this a lot. I am a relatively fast reader and I can knock out books in a couple of hours. Sometimes I do take a break, but it’s pretty normal for me to start and finish a book in a day. If it’s a contemporary and I have nothing else to do, it’s going to be read in a day.

One Day 1

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare: Now I wouldn’t normally read a 600+ page book in a day, however, I was at home recovering from my wisdom teeth operation and before I knew it. I had finished the book. Cassandra Clare brings the magic of the shadow world into a new light, in a gripping first novel of a new series, Lady Midnight is dark, fun and full of ups and down, it is going to rip your heart apart | Full Review

This Beats Perfect by Rebecca Denton: Earlier this year I went on a cruise, and for one of those days, I just sat by the pool and just read it all day. It’s the perfect book to sit and enjoy. This Beats Perfect is fun, addicting and put a smile on my face. It explores the notions of finding yourself, loving what you do and finding those who will stand by you. It’s about family, friendship and those you love | Full Review

A Thousand Letters by Staci Hart: When I get immersed in a novel, it’s hard for me to get out, and this is what happened with A Thousand Letters. Overall, It’s a heartbreaking read and will leave you an emotional wreck. It’s about family, friends and second chances. It’s about forgiveness, letting go and falling in love | Full Review

One day 2

The Deal Series by Elle Kennedy: If it’s new adult and contemporary – a one day read is high in odds. I loved reading these books. Ice hockey, fun and a little heartbreaking at times.

Vigilante by Kady Cross: I started this on the way to uni and by that night I had finished it. Vigilante explores the notion of rape culture, grief, family, friend, and love. It’s honest, heartbreaking, empowering and confronting, but a must-read | Full Review Coming Soon

The Secret Science of Magic by Melissa Keil: So I was lucky enough to read this while at my internship and I spent the whole day reading it and falling in love. It’s fun, crazy and put a smile on my face. But, it’s also heartbreaking.

One Day 3

The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski: I couldn’t help myself. I needed to know how it was going to end. What was going to happen? The Winner’s Kiss takes you on a journey like no other, it captures your heart but wreaks your emotions, and it will break you and put you together over and over again until the last page | Full Review

Ruined by Amy Tintera: This book was addicting. I didn’t want it to end, but I wanted to know how it would end. Ruined explores what people would do for revenge, how our thoughts are created by our surroundings and how our feelings can change for people you think that you hate. It was a brilliant, high fantasy and I am ecstatic to read more | Full Review

Disruption by Jessica Shirvington: I don’t know why I put off reading this for so long. Because it was so good. With enthralling characters, an engrossing world and a plot that just keeps you right there in the action Disruption is a must read for everyone that loves YA and beyond | Full Review.

One Day 4

This Is What Goodbye Looks Like by Oliva Rivers: Another contemporary that I couldn’t stop reading. It’s a beautiful story about grief, family, love, forgiveness and doing what is right.

And that is it for this week! Do you read books in a sitting or in one day? Nevertheless, have you read any of these books in one day? However, have you never read a book in a day? Let’s Chat!

Book Review: Perfect by Cecelia Ahern

Book Review: Perfect by Cecelia Ahern

Perfect CoverPerfect (Flawed #2) by Cecelia Ahern

Pages: 352
Publish date: April 4th, 2017
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
ISBN: 1250074126
Purchase: Book Depository – Amazon UK – Amazon US – Amazon AU

Celestine North lives in a society that demands perfection. After she was branded Flawed by a morality court, Celestine’s life has completely fractured–all her freedoms gone.

Since Judge Crevan has declared her the number one threat to the public, she has been a ghost, on the run with Carrick–the only person she can trust.

But Celestine has a secret–one that could bring the entire Flawed system crumbling to the ground. A secret that has already caused countless people to go missing.

Judge Crevan is gaining the upper hand, and time is running out for Celestine. With tensions building, Celestine must make a choice: save just herself or to risk her life to save all Flawed people.

And, most important of all, can she prove that to be human in itself is to be Flawed?

Perfect:

This review will have spoilers from book 1 – Flawed.

I receded an earc of Perfect by Cecelia Ahern from Feiwel & Friends via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about a book.

Last year I read book one in this duology and was intrigued. Flawed introduced us into a world that is quite different from ours. Where if you go against their laws you are marked as flawed. And it’s not the usual laws that they have to abide. When protagonist Celestine North helps a flawed she is damned – and marked with not 1, not 2, not even 4 flawed marks, but 6. The most anyone has had.  The ending of Flawed saw Celestine on the run and wanting to break this system.

I was really looking forward to reading what was going to happen next. What was Celestine going to find out? Will the system break? However, I was slightly disappointed with the outcome. When I finished reading Perfect, I was left hanging.

Perfect

Perfect starts off not long after Flawed. Celestine is hiding out at her grandfather’s farm, trying not to be caught and blending in. The connection that I had with Celestine was lost in this book. I don’t know what it was, but I felt that she was different. I loved her honesty, her weakness, her rawness and I felt that she lost that in Perfect.

The romance. I first I loved it. I really did. And then I figure out, the book wasn’t set over a large amount of time and my love for it did lessen. They just saw each other and wanted other. Although I did see a connection between the two, I felt like they didn’t actually know each other. However, I still enjoyed it somewhat and if the books were spaced out over a bigger period of time, it would have totally worked for me.

Family, was a big theme in Perfect and I loved it. There is the good, the bad and the ugly. But, that is what families are. I loved Celestine’s relationship with her mother and sister. It’s rare to get good family bonds in YA, let alone Dystopian. I loved that they cared so much for each other. And even with Celestine on the run, she cared so much for her family.Perfect Photo

I felt that Perfect was a lot slower than the first book. At times, I was getting bored and wanting something to happened, but then it didn’t. The last half of the book was pretty good on that part. There was action and every page I turned something was happening. The last 150 or so were probably my favourite. They were intense, I didn’t know what was going to happened next, and there was a twist – which I wasn’t expecting.

Overall, Perfect was an okay read. I enjoyed parts of it and disliked others. What disappointed me most was that I was expecting more. This world intrigued me and I was left hanging. The romance was a hit and miss for me, while I loved the aspects of family. Nevertheless, Perfect explores the notion of standing up and fighting for what you believe.

Have you read this series yet? What did you think? Have you read Perfect? What did you think? Are you planning on reading it?

Book Tag: The Aussie Book Tag

The Aussie Book Tag

Lately, I’ve loved doing tags. They are really fun and get me thinking about books in ways that I’ve never thought about before. So, when I saw the Aussie Book Tag I couldn’t help but jump right into it. I wasn’t tagged by anyone (that I know of), but I still thought I would give it a go.

The Aussie Book Tag was created by  Julia @ Picnic Reads and Ngoc @ Happy Comes First.

Koala

A character you want to cuddle ALL DAY LONG

Ty from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – oh gosh. He is adorable and I can’t even. I think it’s going to be worse in Lord of Shadows just from the snippets I’ve said and I’m both excited and concerned at the same time. I love how innocent he is, but also how strong he is and wants to be.

Vegemite

A book that you love that everyone hates

Not as much hates, but dislikes. Last year, I read and loved Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. I feel in love with the world and the characters pulled me right in. Three Dark Crowns is dark and sinister. You don’t know who to trust or what is going to happen next. There were a couple of problems here and there, but overall, I really enjoyed it. The reader is left on their feet through the book, and even when it ends, you are left standing on the edge of a cliff.

Socceroos

Favourite Fictional Squad

There are many fictional squads that I would love to part of, but one that just pops to mind are the group from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I will never get enough of this whole gang. They are charming, intriguing and pull me straight in. I love the banter between them all and how they work together so well. I have yet to pick up wires and nerves, but I will soon. I just cannot wait.

Southern Cross

Most recent 5-star read

This is going to come as no surprise but The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s is a brilliant and powerful story. It’s heartbreaking, poignant and so so true. It’s a book that everyone should read, and understand. The Hate U Give explores family, friendship and what is right. I wanted to cry, scream and hurt.

Patriotism

Favourite book by an author from your country

Now this one was a hard one, I really had to think about it as there are many Aussie YA books that I adore. But, I think that the Every Series by Ellie Marney has to come out on top. This series grabs you from the first page, and you don’t want to let go. You are on the edge of your seat the whole series and you don’t know what is going to be pulled out of the hat next.

Echidna

A book you like to look at, but it physically hurts to read.

I will probably get a lot of dislike for this, but any books by Sarah J Mass. I love the covers that she gets for her books. But, I really don’t like what’s inside them. Both the first book in each of her series I enjoyed, but after that – just no.

Ned Kelley

A book that is really grim, but an iconic must-read

Again, I have to go with The Hate U Give. This book was hard to read – like rip through my chest hard. I think because it is based on truth and it’s happening all the time – it made it that much harder to power through. However, I think everyone should read it and understand how important it is | Full Review

Great Barrier Reef

A book that had you gasping in awe

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor.  It’s addicting. It explores the notion of family, friendship and finding out who you are. With a world that is built with layer upon layer, you will be begging to find out more. With its beautiful writing and characters that will take you by storm, it’s an adventure you want to be on. Strange the Dreamer is poignant, heart-stopping and you will not be able to put it down.

Pavlova

A light and fluffy book that you can’t help but love

I don’t read many light and fluffy books – the contemporaries that I do normally have an emotional impact or are dealing with mental health, grief etc. However, the Hundred Oaks series by Miranda Kenneally. They are always fun to sit for a few hours and read. If you know any Aussie YA that is light and fluffy please let me know.

Milo

A genre/author you reach for to get out of a reading slump

Contemporary for sure! They are such quick reads for me, I can sometimes knock them out in a couple of hours. I also like to re-read in slumps and just get back into the groove of reading. I am loving contemporary more and more. They can be fun and fluffy, and then sad and heartwarming. There is such a range and I love it.

And this is it for the Aussie book tag! I tag YOU. If you want to participate in the Aussie Book Tag, then go right ahead.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I onl Well February wasn’t the best reading month. I only ended up reading 3 books in. 3 pretty fun books but one of my slowest readings months in a while.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?

January was a really solid reading month. I read s January was a really solid reading month. I read some books that had been on my tbr for some time, reread a few things that peaked my interest. I also started a few new series. And just had a good time!
