YA Book Club Reads

Because I am all about the YA, I thought why not share young adult books that I think book clubs might love to read. There is a range of different YA here, some older, some newer. There is a range of genre’s and authors and just a little mix of everything. Nevertheless, these are also in particular order.

YA Book Club Reads

Something in Between by Melissa De La Cruz: Such an important book that is topical. It was a refreshing and smart and that I think every teen and adult should read. Full Review coming soon.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo: Addicting characters, wonderful world and a plot that had me turning page after page.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: Daughter of Smoke and Bone is truly an original piece of writing that is utterly beautiful, the words dance from page to page. It takes the normal Angel stories and throws them in the bin.

Frankie by Shivaun Plozza: Frankie by Shivaun Plozza is a brilliant debut novel that captured my heart. It’s a story of heartbreak, belonging, finding yourself and what it is to be a family | Full Review #LoveOzYA

Every Series by Ellie Marney: A breathtaking, original series that will have you on the edge of your seat. You will not know what will happen next and you will be begging for more. #LoveOZYA

Disruption and Corruption by Jessica Shirvington: Has enthralling characters, an engrossing world and a plot that just keeps you right there in the action. A must read for everyone that loves YA and beyond. Full Review #LoveOZYA

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys: Beautiful, captivating, extraordinary. Salt to Sea brings to light a catastrophe that has been forgotten. With stunning writing and intriguing characters Ruta Sepetys brings a novel that tells a story that everyone needs to read. Full Review.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: You are kept on the edge of your chair with many twists and turns. #LoveOzYA

All the Rage by Courtney Summers: Important, brilliant and just breathtaking. However, it’s heartbreaking and hard to read.

The Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub: Is enchanting book, that will tear you apart and put you together, over and over again. Be prepared because you will be taken on a ride with 5 students in their last year of high school. Full Review #LoveOZYA

I’m Back! Uni, Life and Exhaustion

So, you might have noticed that Angel Reads has been a little quite the last couple of weeks. I’m a little sorry for that, however, I was in the last few weeks of my university course and everything was crazy. I had assessment after assessment, events, and my internship. I haven’t really had no time to rest, you might have even noticed I was not on twitter a lot as well – which was so hard!

Anyway, I have finished my course and I graduate officially on the 14th of December. I have 1 more assessment to go, but it’s due on Sunday, so I thought I would say hello early. If you didn’t know already I was doing an Associate Degree in Professional Writing and Editing.

What’s Next?

Anyway, I have finished my course and I graduate officially on the 14th of December. YAY! I am not going to my ceremony simply because I am planning on studying some more. Hopefully next year I will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations). I will know in the next couple of months if I am.

Books

I have been reading the past couple of weeks and that’s because it’s a 40-minute train ride to and from University. Public transport is one of my main reading times, as normally when I come home I sleep or study. Some of my favourite for the recent months are:

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake: Three Dark Crowns is dark and sinister. You don’t know who to trust or what is going to happen next.There were a couple of problems here and there, but overall, I really enjoyed it. The reader is left on their feet through the book, and even when it ends, you are left standing on the edge of a cliff. Full Review

Worldwalker Trilogy by Josephine Angelini: An enthralling and intriguing journey for both the reader and the characters. With wonderful character development and a riveting world of fantasy and science. This series to easy to fly through and you will be satisfied when you finish. I received a copy of Witch’s Pyre by Josephine Angelini for review from Pan Macmillan in exchange for honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

So far I have really enjoyed this series, Trial by Fire was immersing, Firewalker was intriguing and then Witch’s Pyre took me on a whole new journey. It was intense, jam-packed and kept me on the edge of my toes.

Witch’s Pyre throws us straight back into the world of the book. We are right back into the action and I enjoyed this idea. The reader doesn’t miss anything and that we don’t need to be brought up with what happen.

For most of the book, we are in what feels like a whole new world. And for the most of Witch’s Pyre, our little group is somewhat captured and cannot leave.

The protagonist Lily has come a long way from the begging of the first book, and she grows even more in Witch’s Pyre. I felt that at times she did regress, but by the end, I really enjoy who she became.

The connection between Lily and Lillian is again strained in Witch’s Pyre. However, Lily has gained a greater understand of who Lillian is. They share more than just a name, they share a passion – to do what they think, is right. And although I am not a massive fan of Lillian, she has been written beautifully and like Lily I really enjoyed her character arc. Lillian is strong, ambitious and does not let her illness pull her down.

After the heartbreak between Lily and Rowan in the second book, you probably guess that their relationship is very tense when he comes back. Lily is closed off about what happens and does not want to let him in. Even when she finds out the truth. At times I felt that Lily could be too stubborn and that would take away from the book and the romance. I also was not satisfied at how the relationship was at the ending, it was a little unclear.

The friendship was quite strained through Witch’s Pyre. There is a lot of tension between the group and how things panned out in the previous book. This is one of the things that I enjoyed about this series. Josephine Angelini is able to show that no relationship is smooth sailing and there are ups and downs.

Witch’s Pyre also deals a lot with grief, with Tristan in the previous book and others in this one. It was heartbreaking at times seeing Lily, the group struggle with what has happened. Nevertheless, it felt real.

One of my favourite things about this series is the world that Angelini created. It’s one of those books where we see the world slowly exposed to us, piece by piece. Lily’s world which is most likes ours, and then Lillian’s where magic is the norm. Both are well developed, yet there was room for more.

At times there was a lot going on. There was one thing after another, it was like we were running a marathon. I would have liked at times to have a break and slow down, especially with the introduction of the ‘new world’ and characters. It was a lot to take in times.

The Worldwalker trilogy by Josephine Angelini was an enthralling and intriguing journey for both the reader and the characters. With wonderful character development and a riveting world of fantasy and science. This series to easy to fly through and you will be satisfied when you finish.
