Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All bloggers are then welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Ten Books On My Spring TBR or Autumn for those living In Australia.

The next couple of months are going to be crazy with young adult books – there are just so many coming out, that my list could go on forever. However, here are ten books that are close up on my list to read. These are in no particular order. There are 2 books that would have made this list, if I hadn’t already read them are The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski and Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry.

Anyway let’s get on with it.

Spring 1

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead: Dresses, luxury, glamour and forbidden love. The Glittering Court is the first novel in Richelle Mead’s new trilogy about 3 girls striving for freedom and true love. | Expected Publication: April 5th

Burning by Danielle Rollins: After three years in juvie, Angela Davis is just a few months shy of release, . Then Jessica arrives. Only ten years old and under the highest security possible, this girl has to be dangerous, even if no one knows what she did to land in juvie. | Expected Publication: April 5th

In the Dark, In the Woods by Eliza Wass: Castella Cresswell and her five siblings know what it’s like to be different. Slowly, Castley and her siblings start to test the boundaries of the laws that bind them. Castley’s world rapidly expands beyond the woods she knows so well and the beliefs she once thought were the only truths. |Expected Publication: April 21st

spring 2

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater: 4th and final book in the Raven Cycle, how will it end? | Expected Publication: April 26th

Things I Didn’t Say by Kylie Fornasier: Protagonist Piper doesn’t speak after losing her best friend, changes school hoping it will all be different. Then she meets West. | Expected Publication: April 27th

Ruined by Amy Tintera: Emelina Flores has nothing, her parents murdered, her sister kidnapped. Driven by a blind desire for revenge, Em sets off on a dangerous journey to the enemy kingdom of Lera. Somewhere within Lera’s borders, Em hopes to find Olivia. But in order to find her, Em must infiltrate the royal family. | Expected Publication: May 3rd

Spring 3

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Mass: Sequel to A Court of Thorns and Rose, A Court of Mist and Fury is the continuation of Feyre journey. But what will happen next? | Expected Publication: May 3rd

The May Queen Murders by Sarah Jude: Those are the rules in Rowan’s Glen, a remote farming community in the Missouri Ozarks –  It’s an old-fashioned way of life, full of superstition and traditions, and sixteen-year-old Ivy loves it.  When Heather goes missing after a May Day celebration, Ivy discovers that both her best friend and her beloved hometown are as full of secrets as the woods that surround them. | Expected Publication May 3rd

The Outliers by Kimberly McCreight: It all starts with a text: Please, Wylie, I need your help. Wylie hasn’t heard from Cassie in over a week, not since their last fight. But that doesn’t matter. Cassie’s in trouble, so Wylie decides to do what she has done so many times before: save her best friend from herself. | Expected Publication May 3rd

spring 4

The Leaving by Tara Altebrando: Eleven years ago, six kindergarteners went missing without a trace. After all that time, the people left behind moved on, or tried to. Until today. Today five of those kids return. | Expected Publication: June 7th

And that is it for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday. Here are my list of books that I am looking forward to this Autumn (Spring). What are looking forward to reading this Spring? Do we share some of the same books? Have you read any of the books on my Spring TBR

After piecing together the clues as to where her mother hid the Mortal Cup, Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle are on the clock to find its hiding place before anyone else. But with demons and Downworlders lurking everywhere, obtaining the Cup may not be as easy as they had hoped. Meanwhile, as Simon’s symptoms become increasingly worse, he fears he is turning into a vampire.
Ep7 is Directed by J. Miles Dale

Major Arcana:

Episode 7 of Shadowhunters consisted of fight scenes, intensity and banter.

Ep7 starts off with Clary (Katherine McNamara) telling Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) that she knows where the cup is; in the tarot cards…one problem, that last person that they know that had the cards was Dot. Magnus killed me in this scene – his lines and the delivery are perfect.

Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) then saves the days saying that he has the cards, expect that are back at his office.

Ep7

Then there is Simon (Alberto Rosende), oh my poor Simon. All I want to do is hug him. Simon is currently feeling the effects of the vampire blood in his system and he thinks he is going quite crazy.

In Ep7 we get to see more of the mundane world in the form of Luke at police headquarters. I head said this before and I will say it again. I actually enjoy Luke as a police, it makes sense and it creates more tension between the shadowhunter world and the mundane world.

This episode really shines on Luke as a character. I loved Luke in the books – he was the father figure to Clary and cared for her. We could see in this episode those characteristics coming through. I am enjoying Isaiah Mustafa as Luke, his acting is quite good and the way that he is portraying Luke; spot on.

SH Ep7 1

Also in Ep7 we see more tension building in the Lightwoods family. Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) has had a change in persona and while I don’t like why she did per say, I am glad she did. I wasn’t too fond of the clothing she was wearing in the first couple of episodes, she did look good in them, but I didn’t feel like they were Isabelle. However, she has changed because of things her mum said, and that kind of put me off.

Nevertheless, the banter between Isabelle and Alec (Matthew Daddario) was still strong. It’s one of my favourite things about the series. They just mash together as siblings effortlessly, and they crack up me. We also get to see how much they care so each other in this episode.

This is awesome banter between Clary and Jace in ep7 and some of it had me laughing on the floor. I love it.

In this episode more about shadowhunter world is revealed. We have the introduction to more runes and its fun. We also see more demons and it was done in an intense way, but I enjoyed it.

SH Ep7 3

There were some things that happened that I wasn’t too fond of because of the connection to the books, but I have to deal with it.

The ending of the episode also left people hanging – which is good!

Overall, I truly enjoyed Ep7. As I have said before, each episode keeps on getting better and better. The acting is improving, the dialogue is getting a little better and the chemistry between the characters is also getting to where I would like to see it, each episode is better than the last.

Book Review: How Not To Disappear by Clare Furniss

Hattie’s summer isn’t going as planned. Her two best friends have abandoned her: Reuben has run off to Europe to “find himself” and Kat’s in Edinburgh with her new girlfriend. Meanwhile Hattie is stuck babysitting her twin siblings and dealing with endless drama around her mum’s wedding.

Oh, and she’s also just discovered that she’s pregnant with Reuben’s baby…

Then Gloria, Hattie’s great-aunt who no one previously knew even existed comes crashing into her life. Gloria’s fiercely independent, rather too fond of a gin sling and is in the early stages of dementia.

Together the two of them set out on a road trip of self-discovery – Gloria to finally confront the secrets of her past before they are wiped from her memory forever and Hattie to face the hard choices that will determine her future.

How not to Disappear:

I received a review copy of How Not To Disappear by Clare Furniss from Simon and Schuster, this has in no way influenced my thoughts or feelings about the book.

How Not To Disappear had a slow start. When I heard about How Not To Disappear I was excited to read. It sounded intriguing and I knew that I had to read it, so when I began to I was disappointed, however after I got about 50 pages in, it started to get interesting.

How Not To Disappear is told from two different point of views; Hattie and her great-aunt Gloria as they both discover who they are.

Hattie’s summer isn’t going the way that she planned it; her two best friends have left. She is babysitting her younger siblings and there is drama with her mums wedding. So when she gets a call about a relative that she never knew existed, she is taken back by the news. However, she is quite intrigued, and when her great-aunt wants to go on a road trip – she jumps on it.

I wasn’t a big fan of Hattie at the start, I felt that she sounded too childlike and it was annoying. As the novel went on, it did get better and I felt for her so much. Hattie has to deal with so much and I just wanted to take a burden on her shoulders. We find out pretty early that Hattie is pregnant with her best friends Reuben. Hattie rather dismisses her pregnancy and that did get on my nerves quite a bit, because I wanted the baby to be safe.

Gloria is a character, she is independent, love to drinks lots of gin and is sadly in the early stages of dementia. I adored when we were in Gloria’s p.o.v. Her story is heartbreaking and as How Not To Disappear went on we find out what truly happened to her and why she has been distant from her family. Gloria’s story is told through flashbacks and through the present day.

I loved the banter between Hattie and Gloria, it was fun and sweet at the same time. It was beautiful seeing their relationship grow, and it was nice to see a good family relationship that isn’t between protagonist and parent or siblings.

I wasn’t a massive fan of the writing style. It was like a fairy tale, I was being told things that happened rather than shown and after a while, I just wanted more. I also felt at times information was dumped on us and it just took me out of the story.

I also didn’t like Reuben at all. His attitude towards everything, was such a put off that I wanted him out of the picture. Nevertheless, I did like Kat Hattie’s other best friend. She is someone that I would love to be my friend.

I really enjoyed the ending it was quite beautiful. We get to see both Gloria’s ending to her story that we wanted to know. And we get to see Hattie find herself and we see her find a new understanding of the world

Nevertheless, I did have some things that I didn’t like, I truly did enjoyed reading How Not To Disappear.

How Not To Disappear is an emotional, gripping read that both, warms your heart and rips it out. It’s about family and motherhood through generations and what it is like to love.

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!
