Journey Through the Shelves (2015) – Week 2

Welcome to Journey Through the Shelves (2015), Week 2. I started this series, because I love seeing what books people have and I thought I would share mine. Since the last time that I have done this, I have received and brought a lot more books. So I thought it was time, to re-do the series. This will go over a couple of weeks, as I will do one shelf per week and since the last time I have filled another book shelf. The last two weeks will be all about my ebooks as I will give you an insight about what is on, my Kindle app and what is on my kobo. I hope you enjoy and let the fun begin. Discussion: Book Bloggers Vs Booktubers?

I have been wanting to talk about this for a while now as I could see it all coming to the surface and after the last few days I thought it was the perfect time to talk about. I don’t know much, with what has happened in the last few days between book bloggers and booktubers and what I am saying today is all my opinion.

I feel, personally that there is a big division between book bloggers and booktubers. I have been feeling about this for a while and I did briefly speak about it on twitter, I think.

There is rarely any interaction between the two forms of book lovers. Yes, there is some here and there, but it doesn’t go far. Before this year, I use to watch booktubers all the time. I loved hearing about books in a different form other than writing, (which I love obviously), but in the last couple of months I have felt this shift. I don’t know what it is.

From the booktubers that I watch, do you know that I have never heard them speak about any book bloggers? And I watch a fair few. It saddens me to think about it, why is there this division? Likewise, I haven’t read a lot of bloggers talk about them either.

I feel that booktubers have a watch wider audience, because well, someone can sit down and just watch. They can get non-readers to maybe start thinking about reading books more. And they can people who love to read to read more. While book bloggers have a specific audience – people who love to read.

I also think that booktubers acquire a lot more from the media in a sense that they get invited to a lot more events than those who write about books and I understand the logical. But if someone has been bloggers say the last three years, then some booktuber comes along who has only been making videos for a year at the most, while getting to go to a lot more things. You get where I am going here yer? Or even booktubers that get good opportunities. (And I am not saying that they don’t deserve it, because they do for sure.)

As I said before there is rarely any interaction between the two groups. Booktubers stick with booktubers and book bloggers stick with book bloggers. Don’t get me wrong, there are many book bloggers that watch and talk about booktubers, but I don’t know if there is many booktubers that read book blogs. Please if you are, I would love to know.

I also know that there are many people who cross over, that have book blogs and are booktubers. And I think that is great – because they are helping the community blend together. But I still think there is this division.

There is some booktubers out there, that are pretty big and have done so well and I wish that they can start with the integration of the two groups. Because in the end we all love books. It just frustrates me, that some people don’t care or that they light a fire.

The hashtag that was going around for booktubelove – that is what separates us from each other and it’s frustrating because we all love the same thing. I am not undermining anyone here, but like I said before booktubers have more of a voice with the bigger community and they can help unite us. But book bloggers have to let it happen.

We all work just as hard as each other. People think that blogging is easy, but it isn’t in any way, shape or form. We can spend hours writing posts, editing, taking photos, editing those, putting the post together etc. But so do booktubers, they have to film everything, edit it the videos etc. We all CREATE and we all work hard.

Furthermore, I hope that I have not offended anyone, and I am not having a go. I am just saying what I feel and how I see it, please don’t think that I am having a go at you. Sorry for this long ranty like post, but I felt that I had to say something.

Before I leave this, please don’t send hate to each other, we all love the same thing. We all care about the same thing. I don’t think we should define outselves as different, we are all book lovers. Yes, you can stick up for each other but sometimes we you do that, you shut people out.

Book Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses

A Court of Thorns and Roses:

I received an e-copy of A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J.Maas from Bloomsbury via Netgalley, in exchange for a review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the review. (And if it makes you feel better, I did go and buy a copy of it myself)

I love fantasy and A Court of Thorns and Roses is the reason why. All my life I have grown up watching and reading fantasy and paranormal/supernatural so when I heard what A Court of Thorns and Roses I knew I need to read it. However I did put it off simply because of all the hype around Maas and her books.

I read Throne of Glass, a couple of books before A Court of Thorns and Roses and I wasn’t that happy. If you saw my tweets, I loved the world and the plot, but they thing, that put me off was the love triangle. So I was pretty nervous about A Court of Thorns and Roses, but let me tell you, wasn’t disappointed.

Maas is a master at world building, the way that she layered and build the world was fantastic, the world pulled me in from the start and I could not put it down. I haven’t read a book about faeries before, because I love the thought of faerie’s so much and I haven’t heard great things about books that are focused on faeries.

Like I said the world building was so on point. She didn’t throw everything at you from the first page or all at once, but gave the reader just enough to understand the world and then here and there gave us more information and I think it was perfect.

The fact that this was also a beauty and the beast re-telling, yes please. Beauty and the beast was/is one of my all-time favourite fairy-tale, so that alone pulled me in. and I definitely same the similarities.

“You look . . . better than before.”
Was that a compliment? I could have sworn Lucien gave Tamlin an encouraging nod.
“And you hair is . . . clean.”

I certainly enjoyed Feyre’s as a character and as the protagonist. She as bad ass at times, but she also struggled, she was human. After killing a faerie that was disguised as a wolf, and to Feyre’s knowledge she didn’t know (though she did have her suspicions), she is taken into the faerie kingdom that will change her life forever.

Then comes in Tamlin. I cannot explain how much I love him, he is up there with my favourite book boyfriends, because come on. Tamlin whose face is obscured by a jewelled mask is more mysterious than Feyre first thought and what readers first thought.

Then there is Lucien, he just cracked me up way too much. The banter between Feyre and Lucien was so good.

The romance was just beautiful, it was that slow burning kind and then bang it’s all let out. It was so nice to see something different.

I threw myself into that fire, threw myself into it, into him, and let myself burn.

The last half or so of A Court of Thorns and Roses was good; however, at times I felt that it dragged on. I can’t truly expand on this because it will spoiler the book, but if you have read it I hope that I am making sense.

Sarah J.Maas writing is beautiful and intriguing. And much like Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses is very interesting and beautiful in the way that is was written.

Also that ending. I need more. I just hope that the next book doesn’t have a love trianlge, please no.

Overall, I cannot wait to read more from this series, it’s everything that I love. Sarah J.Mass’ beautiful writing, intriguing plot and world building that is on point equals a fantastic read that every fantasy reader and everyone certainly should read.
