FROSTBITE: A VAMPIRE ACADEMY FILM – Indigogo

Aug 12, 2014

You all know how much I love the Vampire Academy books. You also know that I liked the movie as well. It may have not been the best but I still really enjoyed.

That is why we really, really need Frostbite. We will be meeting so many new characters in this movie that I can’t even hold anything in. We will hopefully be meeting Adrian, Eddie, Tasha and so many more.

asj

A couple of months ago the Official Vampire Academy Movie page announced that they need help to fund the movie. They left that with us until a couple of days ago when they announced that there are going to be doing an Indigogo project. Here is the announcement from the cast and producers annoying the crowd-funding campaign.

So what that means is that you are able to buy perks which includes some pretty awesome items and what you buy for it goes towards the funding. We need to raise $1.5 Million for us to be able to get the Frostbite movie.

If we don’t raise the money by the 5th of September 12.59pm PT time everyone gets their money back and sadly the movie won’t go ahead.

I really want to be able to see Frostbite and there are some amazing perks up for grabs at all different prices. Prices range from $10  to $10,000.

So I encourge all of you please do help us. Don’t let what you think about the Vampire Academy movie cloud your mind from donating to help us from getting Frostbite. In saying that we also have a new scirpt writer for Frostbite none other than Piers Ashworth who not long ago left a message to us fans.

Writing the screenplay for Frostbite made me realize just how perfect the story is for a movie. It is filled with action and emotion and incredible characters all of whom evolve through the story. I can’t wait to see Adrian’s onscreen introduction… not to mention Natasha and Eddie and Janine. But I think my favorite new character is Isaiah. In this film the Strigoi are really, really scary… and the worst of them, the most powerful, is Isaiah. Immeasurably strong and almost impossible to kill he’s the ultimate bad guy and the perfect opponent for Rose. Because of his existence (and his plan to eradicate the Moroi royal families) there is tension from the very first page. That gives the film an energy and a pace that will keep audiences (even those who have never read the books) on the edge of their seats until the very end.

We have to get this movie made. We have to meet Adrian and understand the new dimension he brings to the story. We have to experience the changes Rose undergoes as she battles the ultimate foe at the same time as coming to terms with her relationships (including the one with her mother). We have to see the battle of wills in the basement – and the surprise of Mia’s use of water magic to incapacitate Isaiah. We have to see the Strigoi for what they really are. Please help make that happen.

Just reading that makes me so excited to see the film. Just by what he is saying I know that the script will be so much better than Vampire Academy.

You can donate at Indigogo and guys don’t forget to spread the world. As we reach certain goals we are getting little perks. Even parts of the script. So come on guys join the amazing VAFamily and donate to help us get Frostbite.

Book Review: The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Aug 10, 2014

Pages:368
Publish date:July 3rd 2014
Publisher:Bloomsbury
ISBN: 1408858207
Purchase: Book Depository – Amazon UK – Amazon US – Amazon AU

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions. One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction.

Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin. But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

The Winner’s Curse:

First Line: She shouldn’t have been tempted.

I received a copy of The Winners Curse from Bloomsbury Australia. This in no way has influenced my review.

I love this book. I cannot explain how much I love this book. It is even more beautiful than the cover and which is simply divine.

Just everything about this book is amazing. The world – how much I love the world created by Marie Rutkoski. It is so intriguing and striking. Rutkoski created something that is new and refreshing but still sticks to a ‘guideline’ for fantasy/historical fiction novels. It was interesting to see the world that Rutkoski created. She formed a world that is complex, but quite easy to get your head around.

The characters that she creates are even more intriguing than the world. You cannot trust anyone and they are multi-layered which adds so much depth to the novel.

Kestrel, the main protagonist, is so intriguing and different a character than. I have read before. She is strong and builds up all these walls, but they are brought down slowly by someone she doesn’t expect to affect her the way he did.

Kestrel is the daughter of general and she is given two choices: join the army or get married. As you can guess Kestrel wants none of those.

There are many reasons why we won…but the fundamental reason is simple. They were weak. We were not.

Rutkoski’s writing in The Winner’s Curse is simply beautiful and captivating. It draws you in and you just can’t seem to put the book down. If I tag could put sticky notes in the whole book I would, because there are just so many beautiful moments. There are many beautiful quotes that I want to remember.

Aria, the slave that Kestrel brought, is very interesting. We don’t know too much about him expect what the slave says to make someone try and buy him. But as the novel goes on we get to see more about him and, man, he was fascinating.

Kestrel’s father is also an interesting character. He is the army general, but when it comes to his daughter, he will do anything even if he doesn’t realise it. Kestrel and her father have interesting relationship that I actually didn’t mind at all. Because he may be all tough on the outside, but deep down he loves his daughter with everything.

Happiness depends on being free, and being free depends on being courageous.

I fell in love with the romance. Oh, it was just so beautiful. Slow, but just so gorgeous and breathtaking. I just swooned half the time. Both Kestrel and Aria don’t even realise how they feel about each other, but it’s beautiful to watch. Rutkoski is a mastermind. The combination of forbidden love between a slave and someone of high standard and the blissful moments are perfect.

She saw him and didn’t understand how she had ever missed his beauty. How it didn’t always strike her as it did now, like a blow.

Some might say that the first half of the book’s pacing is slow, but I think it is the perfect type of slow because the second half? Well, I just could not put the book down. It was thing after thing and it was amazing.

The ending…Wow. What a way to leave a book. You shouldn’t end a book like that, but Rutkoski did and damn I sobbed. I need the The Winners Crime now! I just cannot handle it.

Everything in war hinges of what you know of your adversary’s skills and assists…but how you negotiate the strengths of your opponent is more likely to decide the battle than anything else.

The setup of the whole book is just as amazing as the book. The gorgeous cover that I simply adore. The first pages that are fully black and the way that the chapter numbers are written add as much individuality as the novel does.

The Winners Curse doesn’t disappoint. An outstanding fantasy with relatable characters, beautiful romance, flawless world building and an enthralling storyline. Rutkoski has started the trilogy off with a mighty bang and if anyone asks for a book suggestion it’s going to be The Winners Curse without a doubt.

Discussion: ‘Don’t Judge a book by its cover’

Aug 7, 2014

You know that saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover?’ Everyone should know it, everyone says it and everyone does it.

Beautiful covers always capture our attention, or maybe it’s something particular on the cover that pulls you. Each and everyone one of us has something that without a second thought will make our eyes travel towards that book. Then you will pick the book up read the synopsis and then decided how you feel about the book, if you think you will like it or not.

Dreeams of God and Monsters

You may not fully judge a book by its cover, but you still do in a way. A cover is meant to attract readers, if you have a gorgeous or interesting book cover someone is going to pick it up. If you have a, let’s just say it because we all know it’s true; an ugly and dull cover in front of you, most people will not pick it up. Even if it is one of the most amazing books written. But then you can get gorgeous covered books with dull content. You can never know unless you pick up the book, read the synopsis and (if you like that) read the book.

Yes, don’t judge a book as a whole by its cover, but covers are, for the most part, what a reader will see first. No one should judge a book by its cover, but people do without even realising it. You are looking at shelves upon shelves of books and what is the book that catches your eye? The one with bright colours will be picked up first.

The phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ is true. You shouldn’t judge a book by what it looks like. But it is difficult not to. You don’t know what the inside is going to be until you start reading it.

I know that it is hard not to judge books by the cover because is what our brain just does, so I say don’t be ashamed about doing it. It just happens. All I say is if you see a cover that catches you attention, pick it up, read the synopsis and think about if you will like it. That is all that you can do really.

Winnere

The saying is something that every reader, or any person, will always have on the back of their mind and yes, it does have some truth.

In the end it does happen and I think that the saying is just a saying, that is it. Don’t be ashamed about going straight to a book with a nice cover. It happens and no one should be judge you for it. Because in the end they will do it too, maybe without even realising.

What do you think about the saying? What is it about covers that grabs you attention?

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
