Book Review: Bad Rep by A. Meredith Walters

Apr 24, 2013

Synopsis:
“Who gives a damn about their reputation? Oh, that would be me! Especially since mine had gone straight to hell in the span of thirty minutes”.
Maysie Ardin is soaking up the summer before her junior year of college, shopping, hanging by the pool and shopping some more. But when her black belt in spending lands her in trouble with her parents, she is forced to take a second job at a local bar to dig herself out of a deep financial pit.
She thought she’d be miserable. But then Maysie didn’t count on Jordan Levitt, the hot, pierced and tattooed, drum playing bartender who also happens to be very interested in her. And the feelings are totally mutual.
It had the makings of the perfect romantic set up. Boy meets girl. Boy likes girl. Boy has girlfriend? Okay, maybe not.
But attraction is a hard thing to ignore and soon Jordan and Maysie find themselves in the middle of a gossip induced firestorm. Maysie has to learn whether she can set aside her fear of public disapproval in order to be with the one she wants. Or will she let the opinions of others dictate her life and her heart?

My Review
Bad Rep by A. Meredith Walters is the first New Adult book that I have read, i found it a quick, enjoyable read, with a little of a dark edge. I liked the Characters of Maysie and Jordan, but they did get on my nerves a bit. I loved when Jordan and Maysie had there moments they were really cute, and some a bit steamy. But when they were fighting, they both just got on my nerves and I wanted to smack them in the heads. I also like the idea of Jordan in a bad, I also love that he has tattoo’s I am a sucker for tattoo’s so that did make me like Jordan a bit better. I liked the idea of Maysie working at the bar, I found it very interesting.  The back stories behind the whole book were interesting as well, like the relationship with her parents, I didn’t like her Dad one bit, but i guess he was written that way. Overall it was an good read, it is a steamy book so i don’t recommend to anyone under the age of 16, it did make me laugh at times, and even get a little emotion at one point, and had it’s cheesey moments but this book did have it’s flaws.

So i give this book a 3.5 stars out of 5
I am also doing the Eclectic Reader Challenge 2013, this books is in the categories of 5 New Adult.

Book Review: The Fault in Out Stars by John Green

Apr 22, 2013

Synopsis:
Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs… for now.

Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind.

                                                                My Review
Again. John Green knows how to captivate me. He knows how to bring me into the world of Hazel, he makes me feel the characters. First I love how John Green writes, it is simply beautiful. The way he writes everything just flows perfectly. Next I love the story line, it’s the first cancer book that i have read, and it took my breath away, it broke me down in tears, it tore me to bits, but it was perfect. I love the Characters in this book, Hazel is so strong yet so weak, yet is is so captivating. Augustus is the not so normal boy, i found him humorous, yer so deep at points, he has been thought alot, but yer live so little. I like that John Green makes characters that people can connect to, but not all people can imagine what they been through. I also like the little stories, in the book, like the Author, her parents, other Characters with cancer or had. John knows how to pull you in and keep you there.

My Favourite Quotes:
‘The thing about pain… it demands to be felt’
‘Grief does not change you Hazel, it reveals you’
‘Because you are beautiful. I enjoy looking at beautiful people and i decided a while ago not to deny myslef the simpler pleasure of existence’

I can give this book nothing else that a 5 out of 5 Stars

Book Review: The Duff: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger

Apr 6, 2013

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

                                                                    My Review

I loved this books, i thought it was very different to what i have read. I love the writing style that Kody Keplinger used. I love that Bianca was not that usual main character that we see in most YA novels, she is not the prettiest girl, not the popular girl, not the supermodel looking girl, She is the girl that alot of teen girls these days can connect to, not only on looks, but how they feel as well.
I Connect with Bianca pretty much straight away. I love the Character of Wesley, first the name, you don’t see that much in novels these days, well i don’t, i also love his attitude and i have no idea why, yes he can be a dick and not know what he says hurts people, but when you see his soft side, oh my gosh, i just feel in love with him, who wouldn’t.
I also like how Kody intertwine different matters into the main story line, like the one between her parents and about Wesley’s problem. I thought it was a very clever idea. I also like the concept of the DUFF (designated, ugly, fat, friend) i think it can change alot of perspective of people, that do feel like a DUFF, especially what we find out near the endish what Bianca thinks about the DUFF. I didn’t really like Bianca’s friend Jessica I don’t know she just got on my nerves. But over all i really enjoyed this book.

Therefore I have given this book a 4.5 Stars out of 5.

Quotes
‘No Mattter where you go or what you do to distract yourself, reality catches up with you eventually’
‘Wesley took my hand and laced his fingers with mine ‘you look beautiful tonight, Bianca’ ‘
