I’ve read quite a bit of Kylie Scott books by now and I’ve really enjoyed most of them, and it was nothing new for The Rich Boy. One of the main reasons why I love reading books from Kylie Scott is that she is able to write honest and relatable characters. And while at first, it doesn’t seem that way, as the stories go on it becomes clear. And again Kylie was able to do that in The Rich Boy.

The Rich Boy follows Alice is struggling day by day with her waitressing job just trying to make ends means. She hates where she works, but she needs the money and it gives her that freedom as well. Then the new busboy comes into her life and everything Alice knows is thrown out the window. Beck flirts with her from the start and sparks fly, but the start of their romance is cut short, but Beck needs to be back home. And well everything starts from there.

I adored Alice as a protagonist throughout The Rich Boy. She was super easy to get along with and I was able to connect with her on many levels. I loved Alice’s smart comebacks and how she was able to survive being literally thrown in the deep end. Being able to get along and connect with Alice, made reading the novel super easy. I was able to fall in with the characters right away and go along with them. Another thing that I enjoyed was seeing Alice deal with everything around her. While at times she struggled, it also showed that she was human. The reader is able to feel everything that Alice is feeling and that stood out to me.

Beck was a classic. He was such an enjoyable character and really added that comic relief that was sometimes needed throughout The Rich Boy. From the start, Beck has this easy-going nature about him that really added to the book. While Alice had a lot of shields around her, Beck was a pretty open book (expect about where he was from), he just put everything out there. And this was nice to see as the novel does deal with a lot of things. Kylie Scott has a brilliant knack of writing male characters that take the book by storm and Beck is that type of character.

The romance through The Rich Boy by Kylie Scott is super adorable. From the start, the reader is able to see how much Beck cares for Alice. I love their interactions from the start. Seriously it just made me smile like crazy. Another thing that I love is that Alice being plus-sized wasn’t even something that Beck thought about. He never really mentioned it and that made me really happy. Sometimes in novels that do include a plus-sized character, there is a real focus of it in the romance. And I liked that it wasn’t really here. I loved seeing both Alice and Beck fall for one another and while the romance was very fast-paced, it didn’t feel it.

There is a lot going on throughout The Rich Boy by Kylie Scott, but everything makes sense. Sometimes I find that in contemporary romance novels, everything happens all at once. Someone is trying to murder someone, everyone is lying, this happens and then this happened. And while sometimes I do enjoy that, it does get old. That doesn’t happen in The Rich Boy. While there is a lot of conflicts it is mostly to do with family and miscommunication. This made it a much more enjoyable read, and nothing really dragged on.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading The Rich Boy by Kylie Scott. It’s a fun read that also delves a little deeper. I loved the play on cinderella here, as well as the play on ‘rags to riches.’ Alice was really easy to get along, while Beck was a classic. I love that he was attracted to Alice from the start and it all plays out from there. The Rich Boy explores the different lives of people and how money influences not just the way that people live, but also how they act. The romance is super adorable and I love seeing how much Beck cares for Alice and vice versa. If you are looking for a romance novel that is charming, addicting and hits the spot, then this one is for you.

I received an arc of Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi from Simon and Shuster Australia as apart of the blog tour in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

I was really excited when I first heard about this one. It seemed exactly like the book that I would love and easily be able to fall in love with. However, it really didn’t go that way.

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi follows protagonists Penny and Sam as life throws all it’s curve balls. Penny is just starting college in a new town away from her mother and the life she went along with. She’s studying writing, has a roommate that might end up her friend and then she meets Sam.

Sam is a little complicated. He has dropped out of college, working at a cafe and living in the spare room upstairs and sleeping on a mattress on the floor. And then he meets Penny. When the two find out they have more in common then they thought, they become each other’s emergency contacts. They will be there for each other via text when every they need someone.

From the beginning of the novel, Penny really rubbed me the wrong way. At first, I couldn’t figure out why, but as the novel went on I found that it was how she treated and thought about people. Penny was very judgemental especially through the first half of the novel. It was just so hard to get into Emergency Contact when you don’t like the protagonist. Her thoughts on people also hinder her from making friends, there were people there wanting to be here friends.

In saying this, I felt that Penny and her group of friends acted much younger than they were. I don’t know if it was just me, but I don’t think I acted the way that Penny and friends did when I was 18. I felt that they were more around the ages of 14/15, then 17/18. Don’t get me wrong, if I know that characters are going to be younger I go in knowing that. But I just felt that they acted so much younger for their age.

Sam was much easier to get along with. I felt that I was able to connect with him more, and throughout the novel, I grew to like him more and more. He felt more real than Penny. He made mistakes, but he was able to stand up to his problems and he was prepared for his life to change.

It also took me a long time to get into the novel, I felt that the first half was really slow and nothing really motivated me to continue reading. When reading I felt that there was nothing really that motivated the characters. Nevertheless, as soon as I hit the second half of the I really go into it.

The second half I was able to connect more with both Penny and Sam and the plot was able really moved the story along. Penny was able to really find herself in this second half and it was really nice to see her characterization and character arc. While it didn’t redeem all the things that made me dislike her in the first half, it did make me like her in the second half.

I really liked Penny and Sam together, I liked that they were friends first and they took the time connecting with one another before anything more happened. I really enjoyed the concept of an “emergency contact.” Someone being there when you need them most. And both Sam and Penny were great to each other for that. I do the romance was present a little more. But I still really enjoyed being about to see Sam and Penny become friends and then slowly fall for each other.

Penny relationship with her mother is also really strained throughout the whole novel. There were times where I understood Penny’s hostility, but there were also times where I didn’t. She didn’t even give her mum a chance to change things. While yes her mother was free-spirited, it felt that Penny couldn’t care less and that was really hard to read. The reader is able to see that her mum was trying to be there for Penny and be a better mother, but Penny wouldn’t give her a chance.

Overall, I liked Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi for the most part. While I did struggle a lot reading the first half, I really enjoyed the second half. The protagonist becomes more real and I was able to connect with them a lot. The plot also started to move forward in the second half and things started to come together. I also really enjoy the slow-burning relationship of Penny and Sam. Throughout the whole novel, Sam and Penny were able to confide in each other and as the novel goes on their relationship changes. Emergency Contact explores the notion of finding yourself and those around it. It’s about family, friends and finding new paths.

I was a little late to the party with this series, I only started it last year, but I am so glad that I did. I feel in love with the characters, the world, and romance. So when I heard that Emma Chase was writing another book in this series, I needed to get my hands on it.

Royally Yours follows Princess Lenora Celeste Beatrice Arabella Pembrook as she becomes Queen. She has been trained for this her whole life, and she thought she was ready. But when she is thrown into it, it takes everything in her to stay strong. But even after all her wits, courage and strength, there is one thing that this queen is not, and that married. Queen Lenora wants to rule on her own, she doesn’t need a man for that, but when she is left with no choice, sacrifices need to be made. When Edward Rourke walked away from this title he thought it would be forever, but then he is called home and everything is changed forever.

I wasn’t expecting to love Royally Yours as much as I did. But I loved knowing the story of Queen Lenora and her husband. And although we knew the outcomes, it was still very emotional and packed a punch. Queen Lenora was a really interesting character, in the previous books, but it was great that we really got to know her, here. I was able to see her in a whole different light. She was witty, a smart arse, but also so compelling. Lenora has been brought up knowing that she will be queen, so she does have this demeanor about her that did make it hard to get along with her at times. But that is queen Lenora through and through.

Edward was charming, sarcastic and was really able to break down Queen Lenora’s walls throughout Royally Yours. Edward was an interesting character, he didn’t care too much about politics or his role in it. He just wanted to live his life. And everything changes when he is called back. I loved Edward so much, he added another layer to the world as well as being something that Lenora can ‘fight’ with. He doesn’t back down and with how strong Queen Lenora is, but also lets her be in charge and fight for what she believes in.

While the relationship between Lenora and Edward was convenient at first in Royally Yours, they slowly started to fall for each other. At first, Lenora is very hesitated, but as time goes on and she and Edward start to know each other. The way that Edward came to be the future husband of Lenora was devastating and gosh it tore me to pieces. But I think that is also what brought Edward and Lenora together. Lenora is Queen and there are certain things that she can’t do, but Edward tests these and it was a great laugh. There is also massive chemistry between these two that was hot and just stood out.

Royally Yours fits perfectly into the series. It not only gives the reader an insight into Queen Lenora but also gives us insight into the world and how Lenora become Queen. I always found her interesting, but being able to read her life was intriguing and I adored it. The reader is able to get glimpses of her story in other books of the series, but we really get to the see the heartbreak, heartache, and sacrifices that Queen Lenora had to go through.

Overall, Royally Yours by Emma Chase is addicting, intriguing and compelling. Royally Yours explores the notion of romance, fighting for what you believe in and loving yourself. It explores what it’s like to rule a country as a woman and the hardships that follow. The romance in Royally Yours is addicting, beautiful and full of chemistry. If you are looking for a royal romance, then this is for you.
