My Life in Books | Book Tag

My Life in Books | Book Tag

Jul 17, 2020

Book Tag Time! I just always have so much fun doing bookish tags and I want to do them a lot more. Are you enjoying them? Today I’ve decided to do the My Life In Books Tag. I can’t seem to find the original creator, but if anyone knows whom that might be. Please do let me know. I did see this tag over at Pretty Purple Polka Dots. So go and check them out!

Before I get into this, I just want to check in with you all. Are you doing okay? How is everything going? What are you reading at the moment? I hope everything is good with you all. Let’s get into today’s bookish tag.

I tried to do something different here and with questions that didn’t regard books that I haven’t read yet. I tried to pick from my read books. Mostly trying to stick with books that I’ve read in the last couple of years.

Find a book for each of your initials

A: After the Fall (The Fallen Men #4) by Giana Darling. I just posted my series review the other day, but gosh damn did this book hurt.

S: Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles #2) by Marissa Meyer. I did a re-read of this series a few months ago and gosh damn I love it. Scarlet is probably my least favourite, but it’s still a 4 star.

G: Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes. I read this one a few months ago and it was such a fantastic read. Check out my review now.

Count your age along your bookshelf – what book is it?

So this is slightly hard at the moment as I’m current re-arranging and building new bookcases. So my books are all over the place. But I just started from the first stack of books that I currently have.

The Midnight Lie (The Midnight Lie #1) by Marie Rutkoski is the one that was picked! Ah, I need to get on reading this one. Marie Rutkoski’s Winners Trilogy is one of my favourites and I can’t wait to read more from her.

A book set in your city/country

Every Breath (Every #1) by Ellie Marney has to be my pick for this one. It’s one of my favourite books and series of all time – and it’s set in Melbourne. I just love everything about this series. It’s got so many things that I love and if you haven’t had the chance to pick it up please do.

A book that represents a destination you’d love to travel to

Bringing Down the Duke (A League of Extraordinary Women #1) by Evie Dunmore. I mean I’ve already been to the UK. But I am dying to go again. I could live there. That’s not just a saying. I want to live there. But we will see. I love Bringing Down the Duke so much, and if you haven’t had the chance to check out my review, do.

A book that’s your favourite colour

If you haven’t realised purple is my favourite colour. Has been since I was little, I don’t even think I’ve ever had a different favourite colour. I picked Who Wants to Marry a Duke (Duke Dynasty #3) by Sabrina Jeffries for this one, look at that cover. And also I’m loving Sabrina Jefferies at the moment. My review for this one will be coming very soon!

Which book do you have the fondest memories of?

This just has to be Cassandra Clare books in general. She introduced me to this world that I now love so much. Her characters are fantastic, her plots kill me and the romances are seriously some of the best. Lady Midnight was a game-changer for me and gosh I just want to read more and more.

Which book did you have the most difficulty reading?

I really didn’t know which way to go with this question. Was it hard because of the content or just hard to get through? I’m going with a book that made me cry so damn much and that is The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo.

I’m not even joking I cried for the last 4o minutes of the audio. And not a nice little tear, I was a full-on sobbing mess. Check out my review for more.

Which book in your TBR pile will give you the biggest accomplishment when you finish it?

This isn’t hard. The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray. This is on my Best Friend TBR and I still haven’t read it. I will get to it. I hope. I’ve tried it once before and it wasn’t what I in the mood for. Hopefully, soon I can pick it.

And that is it for the My Life In Books Tag! I had so much fun with this one, and some of the questions really made me think. I’m not tagging anyone, but if you would like to do it, then consider yourself tagged! Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Let’s Chat!

Book Tag | Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Book Tag | Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Jul 5, 2020

Today I thought it would be fun to do another book tag. Tags are a fun way to really think about things. From the way, I read my favourite and least favourite books. So today I thought I would do the unpopular opinions book tag.

The Unpopular Opinions Book Tag was created by The Book Archer, you can check out the original video now. Now let’s get into it.

1. A Popular Book or series that you didn’t like.

I did a whole post about this recently. But one of the series that I don’t have on this list. It’s Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. I liked the first book, I enjoyed it quite a bit. But then it all went downhill for me. I’ve spoken about this before but quickly. I just don’t like what Maas does with her characters. I wanted to love her stuff, but I just can’t.

2. A Popular Book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

I have no idea how to answer this one. I’ve been thinking about it for the last two days and can’t think of anything. I don’t think there is anything that I love that everyone hates.

3. A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like.

I’m an OTP kind of girl most of the time. But there is a bunch of romance couples that I couldn’t see connect the way I would have liked them too. Recently I tried reading the first two books in Lauren Rowe’s Morgan Brothers series and didn’t love the couples in both. In Hero, the OTP was decent. I didn’t have a massive problem with it. But I really didn’t like the couple in Captain.

4. A popular book genre that you hardly reach for.

Science-Fiction. I’ve spoken about this a few times, but I really struggle reading sci-fi. I don’t know what it is because I love watching shows and films that are science fiction. But reading it has a different vibe for me. I’ve read a few books that are both YA and Adult sci-fi. And some I’ve loved and some I haven’t. It’s kind of a mix bad. But I really have to be in the mood for me. I have to be in the right headspace to read and take it all in.

5. A popular or beloved character that you do not like.

I think this one has to go to Lissa from Vampire Academy. I love this series, but I just couldn’t love Lissa. I didn’t think she was a great friend to Rose and even a great person at times. Later on, in the series, I grew to like her more. But it did take me a while. I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion per se, but I do see more people liking her more than I do.

6. A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.

I’ve tried reading a few books from Becky Albertalli, but I cannot get into them. I’m not entirely sure what it is. I’ve tried reading Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda twice now and wasn’t able to get into it at all. But I adore the movie, I’ve watched it countless times. I’ve also tried to pick up The Upside of Unrequited and could not connect with it either.

7. A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing.

Love Triangle. It’s something that I have always disliked and I really wish that more YA didn’t have it. I just don’t get the appeal. I hate the unnecessary tension that it creates. There have only been two books where a love triangle has worked for me, and they are both from the same author. The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare. And it’s worked because in reality it wasn’t really a love triangle and it all worked out in the end.

8. A popular series that you have no interest in reading.

This has to the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin. I never really had an interest when it first came out. While this isn’t as popular now when all I was reading YA, this was one of the most popular series and I just had no interest. I think I might have liked it if I picked it up when it first came out, but I don’t think I will now.

9. The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

I don’t think I prefer the movie to the book, but I think that the Catching Fire movie is hands down one of the best book to movie adaptations ever! And sometimes I do prefer it to the book. It just depends on what mood I’m in. The whole movie series is seriously some of the best book to movie adaptions that I have seen. I love them and don’t have much to say in terms of criticism.

And that is it for this post! What are some of your unpopular opinions? What is a book that everyone loves, but you hate? Do we share any of the same answers? Let’s talk about our unpopular opinions!

The Book Snob Book Tag

The Book Snob Book Tag

Jun 25, 2020

Today I thought I would do another book tag! They are always so much fun so I did a little hunting and found The Book Snob Tag.  This was originally created by Tia and all the books over on Booktube. So check it out if not want.

1. Adaptation snob: Do you always read the book before you see the movie?

90% of the time. If it’s a young adult book then there is a very high chance that I will read the book before I watch the movie. However, if it’s something like a classic or crime novel, then most likely not. I’m not a massive crime reader, but I love watching crime movies and TV shows. There are also times when I have no idea that it’s a book to movie adaptation. That has happened a couple of times and it’s not until after that I realise.

2. Format snob: You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, ebooks, or audiobooks?

A few years ago this would have been an easy answer for me. It would have been physical books. However, now I have to think about it hard. There are a lot of romance books that I can’t get in physical form – or they cost a hell of a lot of money. So right now at this moment, it would be ebooks – because then I also don’t need to worry about finding space in my shelves for them.

3. Ship snob: Would you date or marry a non-reader?

Maybe? I don’t know. Would I prefer a person that loves reading? Yes, for sure. Would it be the be-all, end-all if the person I want to marry doesn’t read no? If they hated reading and didn’t like that I read as much as I do? Then they can go away.

4. Genre snob: You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?

Non-fiction. I don’t read much of it now so it won’t make a massive difference for me. However, I do love learning about history so I think that is where it would take a nosedive for me. But I guess I can just watch more documentaries if I want.

5. Uber genre snob: You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?

Why are these questions so hard? At this present moment, romance. There is so much variety and you can find anything that you want. From fantasy romance to historical, then we have some of my favourites like MC and military. There is just so much!

6. Community snob: Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?

Romance again for this one. I don’t think I need to talk about this too much, but romance has always had people turn their noses down to it. It hasn’t changed in the whole time I’ve been blogging and reading it and sadly I don’t think it will change much.

I love romance, it’s always a genre that I have been drawn too. And over the last few years, it’s mainly what I have been reading. It’s so easy to fall in love with the characters, the story and all the tropes.

7. Snobbery recipient: Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general?

Yes, yes and yes. If you don’t know I work in a book store so I talk about what I’m reading and what I read all the time. And I can’t tell you how many times I get this look of disgust or horror, especially when I say I read young adult or romance.  I am always so hesitant to say what I like, but you know what I love what I read and I don’t want to hide away from it.

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
