Books That I’ve Forgotten I Loved

Books That I’ve Forgotten I Loved

Sep 16, 2017

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how my reading has changed. How for the last 8 to 9 years, I’ve been reading YA and how much it has changed my life. I remember those first books that I read, the fandoms’ I joined and become a part of. And most importantly it was my love for these books that made me want to start Angel Reads.

So today I thought I would share some of those books and series that I have forgotten that I loved. There is a good mix of books here, and like always they are in no particular order.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: This is one of the series that really brought me into this world of young adult literature. It’s what made me fall in love with the readership of YA and I haven’t gone back since.

It has everything that I love; romance, friendship, tough ass female protagonist and something supernatural.

Angel by L.A Weatherly: This was one of the series that continued my love for the supernatural and started my love for Angels. I loved that Angels weren’t the good and may have been trying to take over the world.

And still to this day, there is one scene between the protagonist and the male love interest that I can re-read. It’s one of my favourite scenes of all time and I don’t even know why. I thought it was adorable and cute and just killed my 14-year-old heart.

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake:  I am not a big horror or ghost reader even when I love supernatural, so picking Anna Dressed in Blood was a surprise pick for me. However, I loved it. It’s creepy and addicting all at the same time.

After reading this one I started to read more ‘scary’ or not so lovely YA supernatural – which was great.

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: This is one of the first contemporary novels that I picked up and ever since I haven’t been able to stop reading both contemporary books and Morgan Matson.

This book was emotional, heartbreaking, but at the same time put a smile on my face. It showed me even the real world could be interesting and captivating. It’s a very raw and real book, that I haven’t been able to re-read many times because all I do when reading is cry.

Harry Potter by J.K Rowling: Okay I haven’t really forgotten that I love this series, how could I. But, I did forget why and how much I loved Harry Potter. I’ve recently started re-read the series via audio books and holy gosh.

It’s like I am reading it for the first time again, it’s a whole new experience. When I am listening, I’m taken on a journey with Harry, Ron and Hermione, like never before. And I can’t get enough of it. I’ve got about 6 hours left of Chamber of Secrets and I can’t wait to listen to more.

And that is it for this post! I hope that you enjoyed. What are some of the books that you have forgotten that you loved? Do we share any that is the same? Let’s Chat!

The 100 Characters Tag

A couple of months ago I was tagged by Mollie from Mollie the Reader to do The 100 Character book tag and today I finally have the chance.

I watched The 100 when it first started and feeling in love right away. I think for the most part was because it had so many Aussies in it that I have grown up watching. But then I feel in love with the world and characters. In saying that I haven’t watched any of this season. Hope to get on that soon. Anyway, let’s go!

The 100 Tag 1

This isn’t exactly a character of sorts more like a family. The Blackthorns from the Shadowhunter universe. Oh my heart breaks for them. If it isn’t death tearing them apart it’s their world. We see their losses begin in City of Heavenly Fire and it doesn’t stop there. My heart just keeps on breaking for them, again and again, | Lady Midnight Review.

Okay, yes I am going with Cassandra Clare again. But Will Herondale has to be high on this list. He is totally cute and even sweet at times, but he has this hard exterior that just makes him an asshole. There are times that I understand why he acts like he does, but most of the time, he is just acting like a brat. In the end, I still do love him.

Lada Dragwlya from The Conqueror’s Saga by Kiersten White has to be high on my list for strong independent characters for sure. Lada is strong as hell and tries not to let another bother her. Lada has gone through so much through both And I Darken and Now I Rise – yet she still strives to get what she wants and doesn’t let anyone get in her way. Review of And I Darken.

I really struggled with this one and I don’t even know why. I think because I read a lot of companion novels where the side character ends up getting their own book. In saying that, I am going to pick Jagger from Full Measures by Rebecca Yarros. He is josh’s best friend, but he is fantastic and sarcastic as hell.

 The 100

Lazlo Strange from Strange the Dreamer. He doesn’t get his heartbroken by people per say, but events that happen, by life. He just doesn’t get a break and my heart hurts for him. I am really excited to see what happens next though | Review.

the 100

Nix from The Girl From Everywhere and The Ship Beyond Time. I don’t think this series gets enough love as it should, but one of the main reasons I loved this series was because how diverse it was. I loved in the first book we really get to know Nix and discover as she does her cultural and more. Review: 1 | 2

Noemi from Defy the Stars. A warrior, a fighter and a soldier for Genesis, a colony planet of a dying Earth. She has been there most of her life and living is space is all she knows. Plus most of the book is set in the many places in space | Review.

Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy, now she might be reckless most of the time. But, when it comes to fighting, I could want her by my side. She fights for what she believes in and can lead an army like it is the back of her hand.

Dimple from When Dimple Met Rishi! Can we please talk about that Dimple is a girl and she is going to study web development and is goes to a summer camp for it! YES, YES, YES. Review.

Magnus Bane from the Shadowhunter world. He is not only a healer but a fighter. Magnus is hella powerful and even though he complains half the time, he will do a lot to save his friends or those close to them.

And that is it for this post! I tag anyone that wants to do The 100 character tag!

Thank you for check this post out! Do you watch The 100? Do you like it? Are you planning on watching it? Do you agree with my answers? Let’s Chat!

The Aussie Book Tag

Lately, I’ve loved doing tags. They are really fun and get me thinking about books in ways that I’ve never thought about before. So, when I saw the Aussie Book Tag I couldn’t help but jump right into it. I wasn’t tagged by anyone (that I know of), but I still thought I would give it a go.

The Aussie Book Tag was created by  Julia @ Picnic Reads and Ngoc @ Happy Comes First.

Koala

A character you want to cuddle ALL DAY LONG

Ty from Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – oh gosh. He is adorable and I can’t even. I think it’s going to be worse in Lord of Shadows just from the snippets I’ve said and I’m both excited and concerned at the same time. I love how innocent he is, but also how strong he is and wants to be.

Vegemite

A book that you love that everyone hates

Not as much hates, but dislikes. Last year, I read and loved Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. I feel in love with the world and the characters pulled me right in. Three Dark Crowns is dark and sinister. You don’t know who to trust or what is going to happen next. There were a couple of problems here and there, but overall, I really enjoyed it. The reader is left on their feet through the book, and even when it ends, you are left standing on the edge of a cliff.

Socceroos

Favourite Fictional Squad

There are many fictional squads that I would love to part of, but one that just pops to mind are the group from the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I will never get enough of this whole gang. They are charming, intriguing and pull me straight in. I love the banter between them all and how they work together so well. I have yet to pick up wires and nerves, but I will soon. I just cannot wait.

Southern Cross

Most recent 5-star read

This is going to come as no surprise but The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. It’s is a brilliant and powerful story. It’s heartbreaking, poignant and so so true. It’s a book that everyone should read, and understand. The Hate U Give explores family, friendship and what is right. I wanted to cry, scream and hurt.

Patriotism

Favourite book by an author from your country

Now this one was a hard one, I really had to think about it as there are many Aussie YA books that I adore. But, I think that the Every Series by Ellie Marney has to come out on top. This series grabs you from the first page, and you don’t want to let go. You are on the edge of your seat the whole series and you don’t know what is going to be pulled out of the hat next.

Echidna

A book you like to look at, but it physically hurts to read.

I will probably get a lot of dislike for this, but any books by Sarah J Mass. I love the covers that she gets for her books. But, I really don’t like what’s inside them. Both the first book in each of her series I enjoyed, but after that – just no.

Ned Kelley

A book that is really grim, but an iconic must-read

Again, I have to go with The Hate U Give. This book was hard to read – like rip through my chest hard. I think because it is based on truth and it’s happening all the time – it made it that much harder to power through. However, I think everyone should read it and understand how important it is | Full Review

Great Barrier Reef

A book that had you gasping in awe

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor.  It’s addicting. It explores the notion of family, friendship and finding out who you are. With a world that is built with layer upon layer, you will be begging to find out more. With its beautiful writing and characters that will take you by storm, it’s an adventure you want to be on. Strange the Dreamer is poignant, heart-stopping and you will not be able to put it down.

Pavlova

A light and fluffy book that you can’t help but love

I don’t read many light and fluffy books – the contemporaries that I do normally have an emotional impact or are dealing with mental health, grief etc. However, the Hundred Oaks series by Miranda Kenneally. They are always fun to sit for a few hours and read. If you know any Aussie YA that is light and fluffy please let me know.

Milo

A genre/author you reach for to get out of a reading slump

Contemporary for sure! They are such quick reads for me, I can sometimes knock them out in a couple of hours. I also like to re-read in slumps and just get back into the groove of reading. I am loving contemporary more and more. They can be fun and fluffy, and then sad and heartwarming. There is such a range and I love it.

And this is it for the Aussie book tag! I tag YOU. If you want to participate in the Aussie Book Tag, then go right ahead.

Do you agree with any of my answers? Do you disagree? Have you read any of the books that I’ve mentioned? What did you think of them? Let’s Chat.

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
