Finish That Book | Book Tag

Finish That Book | Book Tag

Nov 13, 2022

It’s time for another book tag. And today I will be doing the Finish that Book Tag. This tag was originally created by Headless Books. The original video is not available but I found the post from Ely from Earl Grey Books, and over on BookTube with Amy.

I had a lot of fun doing this tag, and it made me think about what I when I’m reading and finish a book. Let’s get right into it.

1. Do you keep a list of books that you have read?

This is going to be a slightly complicated answer. At the start of the year, yes. But then I start to forget. And it just doesn’t happen after that.

I do however keep track with Goodreads, in regard to my yearly goal. However, I do want to try again next year

2. If you record stats, what kind of stats do you record?

When I’m keeping track, apart from the general information such as; title, author and if it’s in a series. I like to keep track of page numbers, how I read it and if it was a re-read. I also like to keep track of the genre, my rating and how I got the book.

3. Do you give star ratings? If so, What do you score books out of and how do you come about this score?

This is a little complicated. But yes I give the books I read star ratings. 1-5 is my standard. I do like to give half ratings, even though GoodReads doesn’t let me. But if they have a half rating, I will put it in the review part.

When I rate a book, I don’t just take into account if the writing or plot was good. Or if any of it made sense. I take into account my enjoyment. For me, that is why I read. I want to enjoy what I am reading. And sometimes, the book may not be written fantastically, but I had a good time reading it.

For me, my average rating is 3 stars. This means I enjoyed reading the book, I will continue with the series and I might even read another book by this author.  A 4-star for me is that I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read more. 5-stars are very rare for me. I don’t give them out too often. And then anything below a 3-star is books and authors that I may not pick up again.

4. Do you review books?

Yes, I don’t review all the books I read. But I do try and review a good chunk of them. In saying that. I do want to make an effort to review more of the books I read. Even if it’s just a paragraph. I post my reviews here or on my Goodreads.

5. Where do you put your finished books?

So I have two sets of bookcases. The bookcases in my room hold all my unread books, so I have easy access to them whenever I want. And then in the sitting room outside my bedroom is where I keep my read and finished books.

6. How do you pick your next book?

Ahh. Well, this is the question that I always ask myself. I’ve spoken about this before, but I am a mood reader. I can’t really sit a TBR. I never stick to it and then I just get disappointed. So I normally plan a few books that I might read, and see where I go from there.

There are times when I already know what I want to read next. I’ve already got it planned out.

7. Do you have any other rituals for when you have finished a book?

As soon as I finish a book, I do like to mark it as read on Goodreads. I’m really bad at sometimes forgetting what I’ve just read or I say I will mark it as read later. And then completely forget. So if I do it right away, I am good.

8. Who do you tag?

I don’t have anyone in paricalur that I would like to tag, but if you do let me know so I can check it out.

And there we go. That is a little insight into my reading habits and what happens when I finish a book. Have you done this tag before? What would your answers be? Let’s chat!

Book Sacrifice Tag | Book Tag

Book Sacrifice Tag | Book Tag

Oct 23, 2022

I love doing book tags, and when I saw this one, I knew I had to do it. The book sacrifice tag was created by Ariel Basset, quite a few years ago. The way this works is; we are given a scenario where we will need to sacrifice a book. Let’s get right into it.

An Over-Hyped Book

Situation: You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies’ only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies?

I honestly don’t know why this book has the love that it has. The Words: An Enemies-to-Lovers Standalone Romance by Ashley Jade, was not for me. I disliked it so much. I gave it 2 stars but honestly, I don’t even think I should have even given it that. The relationship in this book is so toxic my gosh. I should have dnf’d it, but I was reading it for a post here.

This book gets a lot of love and it’s sitting at a 4.42 rating on GoodReads, which I find very interesting.

A Sequel

Situation: torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

I am bringing it back a few years here, but Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth and even Alliegent honestly was not the vibe. There was so much potential for this series and it all just fell flat. Maybe because I like happy endings and I feel I was so cheated here.

Also thinking about it now, I wasn’t a massive fan of the writing or the characters. I think I just read it because it was popular and thought I liked it.

A Classic

Situation: You’re in English class and your professor raves about a Classic that “transcends time”. If given the opportunity to travel back in time, which classic would you try to stop from ever publishing?

Ahh, this is such a hard question because a lot of classics have really changed not only the publishing and book world but also everything else. However, if I did have to sacrifice one it would be. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Now, now. I don’t think this should have never been published. But it is my least favourite classic that I have read. It’s honestly just not for me.

What classic would be on your list?

A Least Favourite Book

Situation: apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?

I do want to start this by saying this isn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, but it’s a recent book that I picked up and regret reading. Failure to Thrive by Elle Rivers. There was so much going on in this book I don’t even know where to start. Her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend, her sister gets her a job nannying for her boss. The boss and love interest start dating someone else. Then I don’t know what happens yet. Everything.

I think this book would have been so much better if everything wasn’t just thrown into it. I was so confused about what was happening half the time. And again I should have stopped reading, but I suck at doing that.

Well, there we go. That is the book sacrifice tag. I had a lot of fun doing this short and quick tag. What do you think of my picks? What books would you pick to sacrifice? Let’s Chat!

“Count to 10 With Me” Book Tag

“Count to 10 With Me” Book Tag

Oct 9, 2022

It’s time for another book tag. And today I am doing the “Count to 10 With Me” book tag. It was created by booktuber the Bumbling Blogger’s partner, Sean. While this does have Christmas roots, I thought it would be great fun to do it now.

I also love doing book tags and couldn’t stop when I stumbled across this one. It was such a blast to do and if anyone wants to do this tag, let me know! So let’s get into it.

First Book In A Series

I could have picked so many books for this one. But the first book in a series that I’ve enjoyed recently is Lovelight Farms (Lovelight, #1) by B.K. Borison. I love this series as a whole. But Lovelight Farms is quite magical and I want even more people to read it. It’s friends to lovers, fake dating, and slow burn, in a small town on a farm. What more can I say?

Two or More Copies Of The Same Book

Now I try not to buy more than one copy of any book but there are a few that I allow myself to do it for. And Cassandra Clare is one of those authors. I own multiple copies of most of her books. But my copies of  Chain of Gold (The Last Hours, #1) are some of my favourites. I have the first print paperback, the Waterstones special edition, and an ARC. Let’s just say I protect them with everything I have.

Three Colours On the Cover

Ohh this one really made me think. But it was to be Lola & the Millionaires: Part One (Sweet Omegaverse #2) by Kathryn Moon. I won’t walk about this book too much because you all know that I love it. I also love these covers. They are simple, yet striking. I love the colour combos and just everything about it.

Four or More Perspectives

This one changes with each book. But there are quite a few perspectives in The Never King (Vicious Lost Boys, #1) by Nikki St. Crowe. This series really took different perspectives and it all worked so well for each character, book and the series.

A Five-Star Read

I could have picked from so many different ones, but a recent 5-star read is Delilah Green Doesn’t Care (Bright Falls, #1) by Ashley Herring Blake. This book was *chef’s kiss* for me. I love the romance, and the plot and I can’t wait to read more.

Six or More Short Stories

There were so many anthologies that I could have picked. But I haven’t spoken about this one in a while and it deserves the love. It’s the Begin, End, Begin: A #LoveOzYA Anthology. A different genre of YA from some of the best young adult writers in Australia. If you haven’t read this, please do.

A Seven on the Cover or the Spine

Okay for the life of me. I couldn’t figure this one out.

Eight Letters in the Title

This one made me think. But then I landed on Headcase (Necessary Evils, #4) by Onley James. I love this dark and twisty series. I really enjoyed Headcase, and I now only have 2 more books in the series to read. Which makes me a little upset.

Book Ends on a Page Ending With a Nine

Okay so I went through so many books and I could not find any that ended with nine. This was hard that is for sure.

Ten Books in a Series

The Creature Cafe Series by Clio Evans is currently 10 books and I think that’s the last of it. I’ve read 8 out of the 10 at this moment, but I’m so excited to read the rest of this series. It’s dark, full of monster romance and a lot of sexy time.

And there we go. That is it for this book tag. I’m not tagging anyone but if you do it, let me know and I will check it out. What do you think of my answers? Do you agree with them? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
