Book Tag

Book Cake Book Tag

Book Cake Book Tag

Sep 8, 2022

I felt like it was time to do another tag. And this time it’s the Book Cake Book Tag. This tag was created by the booktuber Suddenly Lorna. The original video is now unlisted. But I first saw this tag over at Zezee With Books.

You all know that I love doing tags and as soon as I saw this one I knew it would be a lot of fun. This tag goes through the ingredients of baking a cake and decorating it.  So let’s get started.

FLOUR: A BOOK THAT WAS SLOW TO START BUT PICKED UP AS IT WENT ALONG

This has to go to The Awakening (Zodiac Academy #1) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti. It took me nearly 100 pages to really get into it. But by the end, I wanted to dive into the second. I still don’t have the series, I’ve read the first four books. But I a having a fantastic time reading them. This series isn’t for everyone. The writing isn’t amazing, there are a few plot holes, and the romance is so-so. It’s also very much a bully romance. And it gets pretty heavy on the bullying.

I don’t see a lot of content warnings for this book, but there is harsh bullying, death, murder, and near-drowning. There is also a taboo student/teacher relationship. Overall, I’m going to continue this series. It’s fun and enjoyable and I want to know what is going to happen next.

BUTTER: A BOOK THAT HAS A RICH PLOT

This is honestly such a hard question for me. Because what I think may be rich in plot may not be for someone else. I also do love more character driven books. I mean I still need plot most of the time, but I love character driven books. I’ve been sitting on this questions for ages and can’t pick something, so I am going to skip it.

EGGS: A BOOK YOU THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE BAD BUT WAS QUITE ENJOYABLE

So I didn’t think that this book was going to be bad per se, but I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. And that is the Mindf*ck by S.T. Abby. It was trending all over tiktok and twitter a few months ago. And I love my darker romances and what better than a serial killer and a FBI agent.

This series is quite dark and has any trigger warnings including; murder, death, sexual assault, assault, torture and more. It’s not for everyone and it’s not one that I would easily recommend. But it was such a fantastic read.

It messies with your mind and makes your really think about quite a few things.

SUGAR: A SWEET, SUGARY BOOK

This is such a strange book for this one. But if you have read The Dragon’s Bride (A Deal With a Demon #1) by Katee Robert. This book was so surprisingly sweet. I just loved it so much. For a monster romance, I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with every one and this book just worked.

I knew I was going to love it already, it’s Katee Robert, but I didn’t expect to love it this much. Sol and Briar Rose warmed my heart and it was a pleasure seeing them fall for one another. This marriage of convenience, and monster romance is fantastic. If you are looking to start something new to you, that isn’t too intense then give this one a go. You already know you are in for a ride.

ICING: A BOOK THAT COVERS EVERY SINGLE ELEMENT THAT YOU ENJOY ABOUT A BOOK

This book was a surprise to me. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did, but gosh it’s become a series that I cannot wait to read more from. It’s Lilacs and Leather (Pack Saint Clair #1) by Thora Woods.

It’s sweet, sexy and put a massive smile on my face. But it’s also intense, makes your sit on the edge of your seat and want to pull your hair out. This is an sweet omega verse series, that is queer and poly. There is MM, MFM, FF, and more.

If you are looking to get into omegeaverse books, then this one might be for you.

SPRINKLES: A BOOK SERIES THAT YOU TURN TO FOR A PICK-ME-UP WHEN YOU ARE FEELING DOWN

Okay, I promise I dont’ just read omegaverse, but every since I started reading this series last year. I’ve re-read a few times. It just makes me smile, makes me feel good and I know I am going to have a good time. The series is the Sweet Omengaverse series by Kathryn Moon and Lana Cole. But really it’s Lola and the Millionairs Part One and Two.

You are probably sick of hearing me talk about it. But I serisuly feel in love with this story, these characters and the love that they have. There are some dark elements in this book and there are trigger warnings for; abuse, sexual assault and kidnapping. But overall it is very sweet.

This is another great omengaverse book to start with.

CHERRY ON TOP: YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OF THE YEAR SO FAR

This is so so hard. I’ve love quite a few books this year. But the standout ones for me so far are Lovelight Farms (Lovelight #1) by B.K. Borison, Everything for You (Bergman Brothers #5) by Chloe Liese, Lilacs and Leather (Pack Saint Clair #1) by Thora Woods and Electric Idol (Dark Olympus #2) by Katee Robert.

All of these books have just been fantastic. There are all either 4-5 stars and I honestly can’t pick just one favourite. But these stand out.

And there we go. That is how I make a cake with books. I had so much fun doing the Book Cake Book Tag. And If anyone wants to do, please do it and let me know. I would love to check it out. Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? What books are going to be in your cake? Let’s chat!

#NotAll Book Tag

#NotAll Book Tag

Aug 21, 2022

It’s time for another book tag. I haven’t done one of these in a while and I thought it would be a nice fun break from the other posts I’ve been doing. So today I’m doing the #NotAll Book Tag. This tag was created by The Orangutan Librarian, you can check the original post here.

This tag looks at some of the things that we as readers complain about the most. From the tropes, we hate to love, to our bookish pet peeves. This book tag looks at them in a new light. So let’s get right into it.

#NOTALL COVER CHANGES – A COVER CHANGE YOU LIKED

Ohh this is such an interesting one. There have been so many cover changes over the years that I have not liked at all. But there have also been quite a few that I have loved. And while I didn’t dislike the original cover of my pick here, I didn’t love it. But the new covers of the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer are just gorgeous. I love the colours, the art style. Everything really. It fits a new group of readers.

#NOTALL ADAPTATIONS – AN ADAPTATION YOU LOVE MORE THAN THE BOOK

There is probably going to be a lot of dislike with my answer here but it has to be The Lord of the Rings movies. So I have tried to read the books, I think four times now and I have never been able to get through them. This is so upsetting because I do love the movies, so much. And I want to love and read the series, but I just can’t. I will try again though.

#NOTALL TROPES – A TROPE YOU’LL NEVER TIRE OF SEEING

Oh, so so many. I love my romance tropes, oh so much. From hate to love, brother best friend/best friends brother, fake dating. I could be here forever listing all of my favourite tropes. This gives me an idea for a post that you may be seeing soon. But let’s just say, there aren’t many that I don’t enjoy.

#NOTALL INSTALOVE – YOU INSTALOVED THIS INSTACOUPLE

This one is hard for me, I’m not a massive fan of instalove, but as I’ve been reading more and more romances. I’ve come to like this trope or more instalust. Which I find even better. But I don’t despise a book because of it anymore. Some books that I have liked recent that have included this trope is the Necessary Evils series by Onley James. I have read the first four books now in this series and it is very instalovey, more insta obsession. But it’s oh so good. Also, One Night in Garoureve (The Shifters of Garoureve #1) by Elle M. Drew is also another one I loved.

#NOTALL LOVE TRIANGLES – AN EXAMPLE OF A LOVE TRIANGLE DONE WELL

Another thing that I dislike as much as insta love, if not more is love triangles. It’s one of the tropes that I rarely read because I love it so much. And with all the poly books I’ve read over the last year or so when I see a love triangle, I don’t want it. The only love triangle I’ve ever loved honestly is Tessa, Jem and Will from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.

#NOTALL PARENTS – BOOKISH PARENTS THAT, YOU KNOW, PARENT!

I am honestly so stuck here. I don’t know which to pick. I’ve been sitting here for the last twenty minutes trying to figure this out. A lot of the young adult I read/read honestly didn’t have any good parents. Or I can’t think of any now that would fit this. So I am just going to skip this one.

#NOTALL VILLAINS – A VILLAIN YOU LOVE

This one has to go to the Darkling from The Shadow and Bone Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. He is such an interesting villain, that not only has a fantastic character arc but interesting history. He went from this general that intrigued me, to a villain that had his hooks into me. I’m really excited for the new book coming out where we do get to know more about him.

#NOTALL CHOSEN ONES – A CHOSEN ONE YOU CAN GET BEHIND

This one really got me thinking. But in the end, it has be Percy Jackson that stands on top. I mean it’s Percy. What more can I say? I love this series with everything in me. It’s one that I never fail to recommend to kids at work. I want everyone to read it because it’s fantastic.

#NOTALL HYPED BOOKS – A BOOK THAT LIVED UP TO THE ACCLAIM

I haven’t really read many hyped books over the last few years, or they become hyped after. I’ve read them. But there are a few that stand out to me, one being The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. I have so much love for this book. Everything in me just loves it. And it’s another one that I’m always recommending. You can check out a post I did on it back in 2018. Another book that deserves all the hype is the Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman. I don’t think I need to say too much, so just read it if you haven’t.

#NOTALL *INSERT FAVOURITE GENRE* – A BOOK YOU’RE NOT KEEN ON FROM YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE

Well, as I read mostly romance that is definitely my favourite genre. And I read a lot in this genre. And I mean a lot. Some good, some bad, but the ones I’m sharing today are the ones that weren’t for me. I had a lot of problems with The Words by Ashley Jade. With the problematic relationship being my main issue, my review goes into more detail. Diver’s Heart by K.A. Knight and Omega’s Obsession (Heat Haven Omegaverse #2) by Sarah Blue are another two that I wasn’t keen on.

#NOTALL *INSERT LEAST FAVOURITE GENRE* – A BOOK YOU LIKED FROM A GENRE YOU DON’T OFTEN READ

I don’t read enough graphic novels that is for sure. Even though I’ve loved nearly everyone I’ve read. I want to get onto treading more graphic novels that is for sure. So if you have any recommendations, please let me know. But one of the ones I loved reading was; Lore Olympus: Volume One (Lore Olympus Volumes #1) by Rachel Smythe and  Punderworld, Volume 1 (Punderworld #1) by Linda Šejić. And let’s not forget one of my favourites Check, Please! Book 1: #Hockey (Check, Please! #1 (years 1-2)) by Ngozi Ukazu.

And there we go! I had so much fun doing this tag. Espeically since I haven’t done one in a while. I tag anyone that wants to do this tag and let me know when you do! Let’s Chat!

Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag 2022

Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag 2022

Jul 7, 2022

Today I’m doing the Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag for 2022. This tag was created by my best friend Ely from Earl Grey Books. Check out her video and don’t forget to tag original creators in book tags that you do.

This tag is a way to step back and look at your reading year so far. I don’t do this tag too much, because I am just very forgetful, but it’s time that I get back into it. So let’s go right ahead.

Firstly I’ve read at the time of this post 137 books out of my 150 Goodreads goal for the year. I honestly don’t know how I’ve read so much. The past 2 years have been filled with lockdowns, so I didn’t think that it was going to happen. But here we are.

Most of the books I’ve read this year are indie, with most of them being self-published and romance books. This doesn’t surprise me at all. But I have also started reading a few more traditionally published romance books in the past few months as well. Now into the tag.

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2022?

One of my favourite books I’ve read this year has to be Delilah Green Doesn’t Care (Bright Falls #1) by Ashley Herring Blake. I wasn’t expecting to like this as much as I did. The romance in this one was just fantastic. Seriously, I couldn’t stop smiling, the whole time I was reading. It’s this step-sister’s best friend romance and it was so damn good. You can check out my review for it now as well.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022?

I think the sequel I’ve read so far this year has to be Electric Idol (Dark Olympus #2) by Katee Robert. I think you should all know by now how much I love Katee Robert’s books. And this one was just fantastic. You can check out my full review, but the romance was fantastic, the characters were brilliant and she has set up so much in this one that I can’t wait for the rest of the series.

3. New release you haven’t read yet but want to?

So I am pushing this one a little and picking The Atlas Six (The Atlas #1) by Olivie Blake. But it was released with a traditional publisher this year. So I am going with it. I have heard nothing but good things about this one, and that just makes me super excited. I don’t read a lot of solely fantasy books, but this sounds right up my alley.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Another author you know that I love is Chloe Liese, and her first book through a traditional publisher is coming out this year and you know that I cannot wait to read it. Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese. This reimagining of Much Ado About Nothing sounds absolutely fantastic and I cannot wait.

5. Biggest disappointment

This is a book that I read when I was reading the highest-rated books on my tbr. The Words by Ashley Jade. This was just not for me. The romance felt very toxic, the characters weren’t anything special. I wanted to like this one, but it was just not for me.

6. Biggest surprise

Ohh. I have had some good surprises this year, but I think I have to pick Unhinged (Necessary Evils #1) by Onley James. I had an idea that I was going to like this one, but I didn’t think I was going to love this as much as I did. It’s a darker romacne that is for sure, so please be aware of the trigger warnings before you hope in. But I’ve already read the second book and plan to keep on reading the series.

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

I’ve read so many new authors this year and I could so many of them. But I have really enjoyed reading books from Thora Woods. I read the first two books in her Pack Saint Clair series and really did enjoy them a lot. I am excited about more.

8. Newest fictional crush.

So many!! But Rush from The Longing of Lone Wolves (Fae Guardians #1) by Lana Pecherczyk is high on the list. Rush is a ‘I don’t like you, but you make me have feelings’ type of guy and I love it. He doesn’t want to admit he has these feelings but he clearly does and it’s fantastic.

9. Newest favourite character.

This one was a hard one to pick but Hook from A Worthy Opponent (Wicked Villains #3) by Katee Robert. He is charming, dangerous and looks after Tink with everything he has. I was intrigued by him when he appeared in the other books, but he really stood out in this one.

10. Book that made you cry.

I don’t think it would come to a surprise that is was a Rebecca Yarros book that made me cry. But Reason to Believe (Legacy #1) got me super emotional. I have cried in nearly every Yarros book that I have read and this one just got me. It’s one of those books that just hit you in the gut from emotions both good and bad.

11. Book that made you happy.

I smiled so much in this book. Ahh. Everything for You (Bergman Brothers #5) by Chloe Liese is the lastest book the lastest book in the series and it was simply so damn good. I think this is become one of my favourite series of all time. Ollie and Gavin were just brilliant together. And I loved seeing them together.

12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

I have gotten so many beautiful books this year. But I absolutely adore my illuncarte editions of The Winners Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski. They are just so gorgeous. And I’m so glad I now have them in my collection.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Moonstruck (Necessary Evils #3) by Onley James | Rock Addiction (Rock Kiss #1) by Nalini Singh. | A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall | The Never King (Vicious Lost Boys #1) by Nikki St. Crowe

14. Favourite Book Community Member

I mean it will be no surprise that I am talking about Ely from Earl Grey Books. But she is my best friend, so I can’t really not talk about her. I don’t know what I would do without her, I honestly don’t know when the last time was that I hadn’t spoken to her at least once a day. But not only is she an amazing best friend. I love knowing her views on books.

And there we go. That is it for the mid-year book freakout tag. If you do this tag, let me know because I would love to check it out. Have you read any of the books I mentioned in my post? What did you think of them? Let’s chat?

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
