My Current Kindle Unlimited Books

My Current Kindle Unlimited Books

May 8, 2020

I’ve had a Kindle Unlimited (KU) membership for some time now. I find it’s a great source of romance books especially those that I’m not too sure about. It has introduced me to some amazing authors and I love that it has also saved me a lot of money! And I mean a lot. I also enjoy when the first book is on KU and if you are feeling iffy about starting the series, it’s a great way to dive in.

So today I thought I would share what I currently have from Kindle Unlimited. For the most part, it’s mostly a romance that I do get from KU. But they do have a range of books from general fiction to young adult. I’m always getting new books through Kindle Unlimited so this list changes a lot. Like always these are in no order but are the books that I currently have unread with Kindle Unlimited.

Zach (Hell’s Handlers MC #1) by Lilly Atlas: Not going to lie, a lot of the books that I normally get from Kindle Unlimted is MC romances. I just love them so much. You can see some of my favourites here. I don’t know too much about this one, it just popped up onto my feed and it sounded like something that I might enjoy. I haven’t had the time to start it yet but I’m excited.

Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) by Penelope Douglas: Penelope Douglas has been an hour that I’ve thought about reading for some time now. And when I saw this one on KU. I just grabbed it. Single getting this one though, I did read Birthday Girl and I’m still trying to work out how I feel about it. I will have to pick this one up soon though.

The Forbidden Man by Karina Halle: I’ve been watching and reading a lot more romance bloggers recently and this book popped up quite a bit. And it intrigues me. I love my sports romances and this one seems like something that I might very much enjoy.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata: I read my first Mariana Zapata last months and I’m still not sure how I feel about her books. But I really want to give this one a go. It’s another sports romance – which is right up my alley. And I’ve heard such good things about it as well as the author.

Undaunted (The Kings of Retribution MC #1) by Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez: I’m not even sure how this one come to be on my kindle. I think I was just browsing KU books and this one popped up. This one has really caught my attention. MC romances are always a hit or miss for me. Sometimes they are fantastic and sometimes they are horrible. But I can’t wait to see where this falls.

The Air He Breathes (Elements #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry: This series just recently caught my eye and I want to know what it’s all about. General contemporary romance isn’t something that I read a whole lot of, but I want to start and this one seems interesting.

Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by Laura Thalassa: This is another one that I’ve heard while watching and reading bloggers recently. I haven’t read many Dystopia/Fantasy romances like this and that has caught my eye. This series is currently still going, so I hope to pick it up soon.

Hero (Morgan Brothers #1) by Lauren Rowe: This one just sounded like a good read. I didn’t even read any reviews about it. It just sounded like something that I would really enjoy.

Fire in His Blood (Fireblood Dragon #1) by Ruby Dixon: This is another romance fantasy that caught my eye. This one intrigues me but I’m also very hesitant. However, I will give it a go nonetheless. It’s one that I have seen other romance readers pick up and I want to know what it’s about.

Love Under Quarantine by Kylie Scott and Audrey Carlan: I love Kylie Scott books and when I saw that she was bringing out a surprise new book and I knew that I needed to get my hands on it. And it sounds so good and I can’t wait to dig in. It just sounds like a quick and fun read. That is what I really am loving right now.

And that is it for this post! Those are the books I currently have with Kindle Unlimited! Have you read any of these? What did you think? Do you use Kindle Unlimited? What are some of your favourite reads from it? Let’s Chat!

Romance Genre Battle: Military vs Paranormal

Romance Genre Battle: Military vs Paranormal

Apr 26, 2020

Hello, everyone! It’s me again—Ely from Of Wonderland. I’m here to do my monthly takeover of Angel Reads!

I thought I might do something a little fun and different today! You’re probably well-aware that Angel loves a good romance book, and naturally, she sucked me into that life too. I’ve been pretty content to sit in my bubble of historical romance, but I challenged myself to step out of that comfort zone. So I picked out two genres I don’t have much experience with, picked out two books for both genres and today we’re putting them to battle.

Basically, I’m going to tell you which books and genre I preferred.

Paranormal

Grave Phantoms by Jenn Bennett

I started the project off with this one and I think that was a good idea, despite it not being my favourite on this list. While this is paranormal, it’s also historical as it takes place in the 20s. So I think it was a nice way to ease myself into the genre. Plus, I enjoy Jenn Bennett’s YA work so I felt like I was in safe hands.

As I said, this wasn’t my favourite book on the list and a lot of that has to do with the paranormal parts. This is the third book in the series and the first one I read. I think that was fine in the sense that there wasn’t anything I’d missed. But I do wish I’d started with the other books—the heroines in those books just sounded more interesting and the paranormal aspects sounded more up my alley with mediums and cursed ancient Egyptian artefacts.

Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

Oh boy. This book is the definition of a trip. There is so much stuff in this book that just blew my mind, but not in a good way. It was definitely more of a ‘who signed off on this?’ kind of reaction. I can’t even speak about any of it without spoiling it, but just know if you read this you are signing up for some weird-ass shit.

So did I enjoy this? Well, eh. I found the plot and the world kind of interesting. I didn’t hate the paranormal aspects even though I’m not usually a fae kind of person. The characters though? Mac has got to be up there as one of the worst ever. I swear to God if you made a drinking game out of the number of times she describes her outfit or nail polish, you’d be dead in the first few chapters. But somehow…I still kind of want to know what happens next?

Military

The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros

I was reading this one partly for this post, but also partly for the ‘Bestie picks my TBR‘ project that Angel and I have going on. She warned me that this would break my heart. She really did. But I chose to ignore that, which was stupid but OH MY GOD. It broke my heart into tiny pieces and I loved every second of it.

I didn’t think I’d enjoy the military aspect, but that’s really more of background information than having a whole lot to do with the actual plot. So the military is kind of key to the premise, but less so in the actual story—I hope that makes sense. In fact, I’d almost consider this more of just a straight contemporary.

The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks

This was my first time reading anything by Maya Banks and I’m feeling a little conflicted about it. I felt like this book followed a lot of characters rather than just focusing on Ethan and Rachel. In a way that was okay but Ethan is probably my least favourite of the brothers, at least in this book. I get that we’ll be following the brothers in the other books but I’d have been happy just to go into those having only seen the brothers as side characters.

Anyway, yes, I found Ethan kind of boring. I didn’t really feel a spark between him and Rachel—maybe because I could kind of guess certain things that were going to happen. That all being said, I did really like the way Maya Banks wrote—it was easy and enjoyable. It certainly didn’t hit me in the same way The Last Letter, but it also wasn’t Darkfever, you know?

Final Thoughts

So for this genre battle, I have to say that military won mostly because of how much I loved The Last Letter. However, I’m not going to completely give up on paranormal romance genre yet but at least now I have somethings to compare them too.

Well, that’s me signing off for now. I’ll see you all again next month!

The Lowest Rated Books I’ve Read

The Lowest Rated Books I’ve Read

Apr 12, 2020

I normally don’t read books that I know I won’t like. For the most part, I’m pretty picky with what I read. But as the years have gone on and I started not only reading more and more but also starting reading different genre’s. I started reading books that I really didn’t like. So today I thought I would share my lowest rated books that I’ve read.

Now I just want to say, these are the books that I personally didn’t like. They might be something that you loved, but they just didn’t click for me. These are also only the books that I’ve read in the last 8 years since I started using Goodreads. Like always these are in no order. All these books here are 1 star or less.

Approximately Yours (North Pole, Minnesota #3) by Julie Hammerle: I didn’t even rate this one. It was a DNF for me – which I tell you is very rare. I normally try and get through a book even if I’m pushing it. But, I only made it 20% and I had to give up. I can’t even really remember what it was about to tell you the truth.

Playing For Keeps (York Bombers #3) by Lisa B. Kamps: You all should know by now that I love my sports romance books and this one came up as a suggestion so I thought I would give it a go. It’s a 1 star for me. I couldn’t connect the characters. The plot was bad, the romance wasn’t good. It just wasn’t for me.

Storm (Storm MC #1) by Nina Levine: I’ve been on a real single parent romance kick lately and the second book in this series had one of those, so I thought I would start from the start. Yer it was bad. I’ve read a couple of MC romances here and there but this one. I wasn’t able to keep up with what was happening. I felt like I was jumping every two seconds to something new.

Fierce (Storm MC #2) by Nina Levine: This one wasn’t any better. I was looking forward to the single parent romance and while that part was okayish. Everything else was bad. I’ve never read a romance that jumped so much. They were together, they weren’t, they were, they weren’t. And then the protagonist always gave in a way to easily. This series isn’t for me.

Kissing in Cars (Kiss and Make Up #1) by Sara Ney: This one here was a review book, it’s when I first started getting into romance and didn’t know what I liked. So I picked it up and from the start, I knew that it wasn’t for me, but I kept ongoing. My comment on Goodreads was ‘Why did I continue reading?’ So that says everything.

The Awakening (The Vampire Diaries #1) by L.J. Smith: So I did what any normal book lover would do. I tried reading books from one of my favourite TV series. Yer that was a bad idea. I didn’t even get through this book. It was that bad. It wasn’t that things were different, that wasn’t the problem. But things just weren’t good. And what it’s one of my lowest rated books. Elena was just horrible in the very few pages that I read.

The Gathering by Isobelle Carmody: This one is strange on my list. On paper, I really should like this book, but there were so many things about it that I didn’t like. I had to read for English in high school and I thought wow, this would be amazing. Nope. I couldn’t connect with the characters, or the plot or anything.

And that is it for today’s post! What are some of the lowest-rated books that you’ve read? Do we share any that is the same? This isn’t all of my lowest rated books that I’ve read, let me know if you want to read about more. Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
