New-To-Me Authors I’ve Read In 2023 | Part 1

New-To-Me Authors I’ve Read In 2023 | Part 1

Mar 23, 2023

One of the things that I love about reading is trying new-to-me authors and last year I read quite a few of those. Already in 2o23, I’ve read a good chunk of authors that I haven’t read before and I wanted to share them with you.

Reading authors that I haven’t read before is always daunting and exciting at the same time. I am so excited to try an author that I haven’t read before, but I also have no idea how it’s going to go. But I still try and read as many as I can.

Add to this that I am going to at least 2 bookish events this year. I want to try at least one book from as many authors going as I can. So today I’m sharing with you the ones that I have already tried. Some I’ve loved and cannot wait to read more and some I just haven’t enjoyed. But as always these are in no order.

Grace McGinty: Has been on my tbr for a while and I started off with Sticks and Stone, which I ended up really enjoying. I’ve already got a few more of her books on my tbr that I am super excited to read now.

Rosemary A. Johns: I wanted to really like Rosmary’s books. They are right up with what I like but I wasn’t a fan of her writing style or the characters. I ended up reading the first two books in the Pack Bonds series. And they were just eh.

India R. Adams: Had been on my tbr for some time now. And I honestly wanted to love Steal Me, but I ended up really not enjoying it at all. I don’t know if I am going to try other books from India yet, but I might in the future.

B.J. Alpha: I hadn’t heard too much about this author before I picked up the Secrets and Lies series. And I still don’t know what I feel. I read most of the series but it was eh. And I’m not sure if I am going to read more by then in the future either.

Addison Jane: Addison has been on my tbr for a little while now, and I finally got around to reading her this year. I’ve really enjoyed all the books I’ve read from her so far and plan to read more as the year goes on.

Colette Rhodes: I picked Colette up after Ely told me about her and I ended up enjoying her writing and the book I was reading so much that I immediately pre order some of her books for the event I am going to.

Holly Renee: This is another author that had been on my tbr for some time and I finally picked up Where Good Girls Go To Die recently and really enjoyed reading it. I went right into the second book and plan on reading some of her fantasy books as well. I think she could become an author that I read quite a lot of their backlist soon.

Catharina Maura: I’ve left one of the best to last. I picked this one up last month because again she is going to an event I am at. Not only have I seen great things about her books, but I knew there was a high chance I was going to love them. And I ended up reading and really enjoying The Wrong Bride. I plan on reading way more from them very soon.

And there we go. I’m going to make this into a series throughout the year and share all the new-to-me authors I’ve read as we go. Have you read any of these authors’ books? Are you planning on reading them? What are some new-to-you authors that you have read thus year. Let’s chat!

Popular Books That I’ve Loved To Read

Popular Books That I’ve Loved To Read

Nov 3, 2022

On Tuesday I share some of the underhyped books that I loved reading. So today I thought I would share books that were/have become popular that I loved. From old favourites to books I’ve read this year. I tried to share a mix of different romance genres and more.

It’s really hard to say what is popular sometimes. But this is based on my experience and what I have seen as a bookseller, and on social media. And as always these are in no real order. So let’s go.

Lessons in Corruption (The Fallen Men #1) by Giana Darling | From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata. | Broken Bonds (The Bonds That Tie #1) by J. Bree. | Neon Gods (Dark Olympus #1) by Katee Robert.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood | Brutal Prince (Brutal Birthright #1) by Sophie Lark.  | 7th Circle (Hades #1) by Tate James | From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas | Twisted Games (Twisted #2) by Ana Huang. | It Ain’t Me, Babe (Hades Hangmen #1) by Tillie Cole | Praise (Salacious Players Club #1) by Sara Cate.

And there we go! Those are some of the popular books that I’ve loved to read. What popular books have you loved? Have you read any of these books? What do you think of them? Let’s Chat!

Books In-Sight Melbourne | Event Recap

Books In-Sight Melbourne | Event Recap

Oct 16, 2022

Last weekend I went to my first romance book signing; Books In-Sight Melbourne, in quite some time. I honestly can’t remember the last time I attended an event like this. Books In-Sight Melbourne is a romance signing event where mostly indie authors come together to meet readers and other authors.

So on the 8th of October, Ely my best friend and fellow blogger at Earl Grey Books made our way to the event. I had a blast at this event even though it was a little smaller than I first thought. I thought it was perfect before I go to RARE Melbourne and BABE in Sydney next year.

It was great meeting all these romance authors. Something I hadn’t really done before. It was just so nice being around people that love and write what I myself love to read. It was so hard not to buy everything. But a few new authors have been added to my tbr for sure.

Prior to the event, I preorder quite a few books from different authors attending. Some from authors I’ve read before and some from new-to-me authors. I also bought a few more books on the day. I thought it was a great way, to sum up, my day. Let’s go.

Only the Positive (Only You, #1) by Elle Thorpe | Only the Perfect (Only You #2) by Elle Thorpe. | Only the Truth (Only You #2.5) by Elle Thorpe | Devious Little Liars (Saint View High #1) by Elle Thorpe.

Dangerous Little Secrets (Saint View High #2) by Elle Thorpe | Twisted Little Truths (Saint View High #3) by Elle Thorpe. | Claimed By The CEO (Woodmeadows Pack #1) by Corinne Mazille | Emerald (The Silvia Saga #1) by Jenna Lee.

Topaz (The Silvia Saga #2) by Jenna Lee | Ruby (The Silvia Saga #3) by Jenna Lee. | Broken Wolf (Savage #2) by Mila Young | Fated Wolf (Savage #3) by Mila Young.

Hunted (Haven Realm Chronicles, #1) by Mila Young | Kings of Eden (Kings of Eden #1) by Mila Young and Harper A. Brooks. | Monster’s Plaything (Monster & Me #1) by C.R. Jane and Mila Young | The Evelyn Maynard Trilogy (The Evelyn Maynard Trilogy #1-3) by Kaydence Snow.

Reverie and Redemption by Kaydence Snow | Praise (Salacious Players Club #1) by Sara Cate. | Eyes on Me (Salacious Players Club #2) by Sara Cate | Give Me More (Salacious Players Club #3) by Sara Cate.

And there we go. That was my weekend, the signing and all the books I got. I had a lot of fun and cannot wait to do even more of this. Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Have you been to a signing before? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
