Books That Have Disappointed Me So Far This Year

Books That Have Disappointed Me So Far This Year

May 8, 2022

I’ve already read nearly 100 books this year. And while I have loved a lot of them, today I’m sharing some of the books that have disappointed me so far this year. From nothing being something, I enjoyed, to the writing style or plot not being for me.

I wouldn’t say any of these books were bad. I have heard some great things about a lot of them. But they just weren’t for me. And sometimes it’s not even because the book wasn’t for me. It was just not what I was expecting it to be. And I was wanting something more from it. Anyway, let’s get into it. As always these are in no order. These are the books that have disappointed me so far this year.

Fender (The Kings of Retribution MC, Louisiana Chapter #5) by Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez: I was so sad that I didn’t love this book as much as I wanted to. I’ve really enjoyed books from this duo before. But there was something about this one that didn’t hit the mark. It had potential but fell flat to me.

While I enjoyed the second chance romance aspect, I felt that there wasn’t enough time between these two to get to know each other again. It was like we haven’t seen each other for years, and then bam. I just wanted a little more discussion and feelings between them.

Diver’s Heart by K.A. Knight: I am so sad that I didn’t love this one. And while I didn’t hate it, I was left feeling very disappointed.

It started off great, really good. But as the book went on I was just bored. It was way too long for sure. It nearly hits 400 pages and for a contemporary romance novel that’s a lot. Way too much for me.

I also was really confused towards the end as well. And didn’t know what was happening. I had to re-read some parts because I honestly couldn’t tell you what was happening. Which is such a shame.

Our Overtime (Ice League #1) by S.C. Kate: I had seen this one all over my Tiktok and I was so in the mood for a sports ice hockey romance. Except it just made me sad.

It had so many elements of what I wanted and I was so excited. But it just wasn’t for me.

The romance didn’t feel like it was thought out well and the characters fell flat to me. I wasn’t able to connect with anyone and I felt like they had nothing to them.

I also wasn’t a fan of the writing style either. It wasn’t fleshed out and didn’t feel finished.

Tapping Out (Fighting Love #1) by Nikki Ash: I was still in my sports romance mood when I picked this one up. I hadn’t heard too much about it, but what I had was pretty good. Expect this book was not for me.

The characters were again very flat and I wasn’t able to get to know them well. There was so much back and forth and also so much going on. I felt at times I knew what was going to happen and then it went complicated the other way. But it wasn’t a surprise. It was like a ‘throw everything into the basket’ kind of deal.

I would have liked it if there were only a few things going on, but have them fleshed out and make sense.

And there we go. Those are the books that have disappointed me so far this year. Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? What books have disappointed you so far this year? Let’s chat!

Books I’ve Loved Reading So Far This Year

Books I’ve Loved Reading So Far This Year

Mar 29, 2022

As we are already 3 months into the year. I thought I would share some of the books I’ve already loved this year. I’ve read mostly romance this year and it’s been fantastic. I’ve been in a little reading slump recently, so it’s been great going through the books I love.

It’s a range of romance books on this list. From darker romances to light and fluffy romances. There are some new authors on this list that I haven’t read from before and some old favourites. So let’s get into it. As always these are in no order.

Twisted Games (Twisted #2) by Ana Huang | Electric Idol (Dark Olympus #2) by Katee Robert.  – Discussion/Review | In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens – Discussion | Lore Olympus: Volume One (Lore Olympus Volumes #1) by Rachel Smythe.

Lilacs and Leather (Pack Saint Clair #1) by Thora Woods | The Dragon’s Bride (A Deal With a Demon #1) by Katee Robert. | Angels’ Blood (Guild Hunter #1) by Nalini Singh | Little Piece of Sass (Creature Cafe #5) by Clio Evans.

From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata | Teach Me (There’s Something About Marysburg #1) by Olivia Dade | Storm the Castle (Marry the Scot #1) by Jolie Vines.

And there we go. Those are some of the books I’ve loved reading this year. From new to me romances, and some young adults. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.

Books I Want To Re-Read This Year

Books I Want To Re-Read This Year

Mar 20, 2022

I love re-reading. It’s one of my favourite things to do. So today I thought I would share some of the books/series that I want to try and re-read this year.

I’m going to start off by saying that there are a lot of series that I want to start re-reading this year, and most of them are all complete. I just really feel like going back and reading them again. Some of the books I haven’t read in years, and some I’ve read more recently. Re-reading is not for everyone, but I find it’s a great way for me to get out of a slump or I just want to read something that I love.

So let’s get into it. These are the books and series that I want to re-read this year. And as always these are in no order.

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead | The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus #1) by Rick Riordan. | The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller | The Winner’s Curse (The Winner’s Trilogy #1) by Marie Rutkoski.

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee | Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass #1) by Sarah J. Maas | Trial by Fire (Worldwalker #1) by Josephine Angelini | Disruption (Disruption #1) by Jessica Shirvington.

And I Darken (The Conqueror’s Saga #1) by Kiersten White | Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.

And there we go. Those are some of the books and series that I would like to re-read this year. Do you like re-reading? Are you planning on re-reading anything this year? Is there a book you could just re-read over and over again?

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
