Books On My Summer TBR | TTT

Books On My Summer TBR | TTT

Dec 17, 2019

This week I’m sharing the books on my Summer TBR. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

While nearly everyone else is going to winter around the world. It’s becoming Summer here in Australia. And it’s out in full force. It’s going to be hot this week that is for sure. So I thought I would share the books that I want to get through this summer. I’m going on a cruise early January, so I’m hoping to read a whole bunch during that time. There is a combination of new releases and backlist titles here. Like always these are in no order.

Wilder Girls Cover - Summer TBRWilder Girls by Rory Power: I got this one soon after it was released and still haven’t managed it pick it up. I just haven’t been fully in the mood for it. But I really want to get to it in the next couple of months. It sounds like it’s going to be intense. Plus, I’ve heard all different things about it, so I’m really excited to see where I fall.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers #2) by Brigid Kemmerer: There should be no surprise that this one is on my list. I adored A Curse so Dark and Lonely so much and I can’t wait to see where Brigid takes this world and the characters. But I also don’t think I’m ready for all the heartbreak. It’s going to rip me apart and be so intense.

The How and the Why by Cynthia Hand: This is a new book on my radar and I can’t wait to read it. It sounds so interesting and I’ve already seen so many amazing reviews. The How and the Why sounds heartbreaking but also beautiful. I think it’s going to be of those books that stay with me forever.

Only a breath apart cover - Summer TBROnly a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry: I’m not sure why I haven’t read this one yet. I’ve had it for nearly a year, but I just keep on forgetting I own it. But don’t worry, I’ll be reading it this summer for sure. Katie McGarry has never disappointed me, so I’m really looking forward to reading this. I know I’m going to love so much about it,

The Ones Who Got Away (The Ones Who Got Away #1) by Roni Loren: I’ve been hearing such good things about this series for some time now, and I feel that I can finally pick it up. I think it’s going to tear me apart, but it’s also going to be so beautiful. And I needed to add a romance book to this list.

The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett: Again this one I didn’t really need to think about. I love Jenn Bennett’s YA contemporaries and when I heard she was bringing out this YA historical fiction, fantasy. I knew I needed to add it to my TBR. But I haven’t been in a massive fantasy slump lately, so hoping I can dig into this.

man cuffed cover - Summer TBR

Man Cuffed (Man Hands #4) by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby:This is one of the only Sarina Bowen books that I haven’t read it. And I can’t wait to get into it. This whole series is just so fun to read and I can’t wait to see more action.

The Burning Shadow (Origin #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout:After the ending of the first book, I cannot wait to see where this story is taken. There is so much that could happen and it’s going to be really exciting to read. I really enjoy the world that Jennifer L. Armentrout has created and it’s going to be interesting seeing what’s going to happen next.

girl out of water cover - Summer TBR

The Bookworm Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts:I hadn’t heard much about this book when I picked it up, but I think it’s the perfect summer read. This one sounds like it’s going to be fun, moving and just the book that I need to read in a pick me up.

Girl Out of Water by Laura Silverman:I got this book way back in May when I was on my holiday and I just haven’t picked it up it. It’s going to be the perfect summer read and I cannot wait to get stuck into it. I already know that I’m going to love it and just, I’m so ready for something like this.

And that is it for this week’s TTT. What are some of the books on your summer/winter TBR? Do we share any that’s the same? Let’s Chat!

Standalone Books I Wish Had a Sequel | TTT

Dec 10, 2019

This week I’m sharing the standalone books that I wish had sequels. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday was a freebie, so I decided to pick something that I haven’t had the chance to do before. I’m not a massive standalone reader, I love series. Whether it’s a long series or a series that looks at different protagonists each book, series are my thing. And getting this post together has shown me that I really don’t read many standalones. In saying that, there are some standalone that I just want more from and here they are.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: This is one of those books that I just want to know what everyone has been up to. I need to know what’s been happening, how everyone is going. And this is one that would be a perfect one to be part of a companion series. I would love to delve into other characters.

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde: I love this book so much, and I wish there was more to it. I just love series, okay, and I wish there was more to this one. We get to see some of these characters again in Brightsiders which I read recently and I loved seeing them again. But we don’t get to know much about what’s been happening – and that’s what I want to know.

Summer Skin by Kirsty Eagar: I read this one a number of years ago now, but it’s one that I always remember. Summer Skin is a perfect book to do a companion series too. It’s got that ‘feel’ to it. And I think that it would just work so well. If you haven’t had the chance to pick this one up, please do, because it is fantastic.

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A Craig: This is a recent read of mine and while I love it as a standalone, this would also work so well in a series. There’s so much potential for the addition of new stories here. It could be with a different sister, in a different time, but I think that would work so well. You can check out my review to see what I thought about this one.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black: This book has such a cool concept and I think it works so great as a standalone, especially for fantasy. But I also think it would have worked as a duology. There is so much that I love about this book, especially the concept and I would have loved to see what happened after the book.

The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers: I read this a number of years ago now, but I still think this could have worked so easily as a series. There is so much here and while I think it’s a brilliant book already. Having more of this intensity would also work so well.

And that is it for this post. I really don’t read many standalone books. It was a strange feeling for me trying to do this and realise how much I really do love series. What are some of the standalone books that you wish were part of a series? Do we share any that’s the same? Let’s Chat

Books That Have Changed My Reading Habits

Books That Have Changed My Reading Habits

Nov 20, 2019

This week I’m sharing the books that change my reading habits over the last couple of years.  Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

Well, this post is a little late, but I thought better late than never. Today, I’m sharing the books that have changed the way that I read. Whether it’s reading a different genre, a new author or trying something that I’ve never read before. So, here are the books that have changed how I read, as always there is no particular order.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: This is one of those books that rekindled my love for reading. Not just that, it’s what sent me on my reading journey that I’m still on today. It sent in motion my love for young adult and urban fantasy. It also sent me on this journey of blogging as well.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare: Like Vampire Academy, this series sent me on another reading journey and Cassandra is still one of my favourite authors to this day. Not only did it really enhance my love for young adult and fantasy, but it also gave me the push that I needed.

Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks #1) by Miranda Kenneally: This is not only one of the first contemporary books that I read, but it’s also fueled my love for sports romance. Most of this series includes some sort of sports and that what made me love it so much. I loved that it was a different sport in each book, but also everything is still connected.

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits #1) by Katie McGarry: This one here is what really got me into New Adult. While when first published it was classed as YA, I could call this and most of McGarry’s books as New Adult. But I adore them. They just hit me in the right spot. They hit me with lots of feels. And even today NA is very much part of what I read.

Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1) by Rebecca Yarros: Like Katie McGarry’s books, Rebecca Yarros really got me into reading more romance. It became addicting really. I wanted to read more and more and that is what I did.

Taste the Heat (Love and Games #1) by Rachel Harris: This has to be one of the first adult romances I read and like everything else. I not only loved the book. But I feel in love with the genre. I read so much romance that, probably more than YA.

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers #1) by Lisa Kleypas: This was of the first historical romances that I read and loved. Up until this year, I read a lot of romance, but never really read anything historical. And then I picked Lisa Kleypas up and that changed me. I’ve read nearly all of her backlist now and I can’t wait to read more in the genre.

That is it for this post! What are some of the books that have made you change your reading habits? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
