Favourite Books of 2016…So Far

I’ve read quite a few books this year so far, I mean I have just hit the 50 mark and for me that is quite a lot. Last year I managed about 80 books, I am trying to get to at least read that much. So trying to pick 10 of my favourite books that have come out this year was a little hard, but then at the same time it wasn’t.

Anyway here are my Top Ten Favourite books that have come out in 2016…so far. This list will change for sure in the coming months because so many books are coming out and as you can see from the books I am looking forward for the rest of the year – it’s going to be full of books.

Salt to the Sea bu Ruta Sepetys: Beautiful, captivating, extraordinary. Salt to the Sea is a gorgeous novel that brings to light a catastrophe that seems to be forgotten. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare: Cassandra Clare brings the magic of the shadow world into a new light, in a gripping first novel of a new series, Lady Midnight is dark, fun and full of ups and down, it is going to rip your heart apart | Full Review

Ruined by Amy Timtera : I loved Ruined. The world was fascinating, the characters, both intriguing and entertaining. Ruined explores what people would do for revenge, how our thoughts are created by our surroundings and how our feelings can change for people they you think that you hate. It was a brilliant, high fantasy and I am ecstatic to read more. | Full Review

When Michael meet Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah: Such an important book that explores explores racism, standing up for what you believe in and making decisions on your own. Full Review to come.

The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig: The Girl from Everywhere is about friendship, family and love, about what would you do for those that mean so much to you, and that sometimes you have to give up one thing for another | Full Review

The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski: The Winner’s Kiss is about love, betrayal, friendship and what would people do to do for their empire. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson: I loved The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. It is a tale of friendship, family, love and unexpected adventures that all feels real. The Unexpected Everything is for every author, book lover and reader alike. It’s a beautiful story of friendship, heartbreak and family. Morgan Matson brings together a beautiful contemporary novel that makes you smile, laugh and cry | Full Review

And I Darken by Kiersten White: And I Darken tells a story of the lengths people would go to for love, approval and just the thought of being forgotten. It was captivating and dropped you into a vivid and brutal world that you might not want to get out off | Full Review

Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry: I loved Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry. It has a steamy romance, dark issues, sweet love and protagonists that pulls you right in. Walk the Edge is a brilliant second novel in the Thunder Road series that is for lovers of YA Contemporary and anyone else who loves romance in dark times

Frankie by Shivaun Plozza: Frankie by Shivaun Plozza is a brilliant debut novel that captured my heart. It’s a story of heartbreak, belonging, finding yourself and what it is to be a family. It captures Melbourne as Melbourne from the language to the setting, it brings to light that sometimes when you think that you are alone, you are not alone and all that you need to do is let them in | Full Review

Most Anticipated Books for the Rest of 2016

All bloggers are then welcomed to join. This week’s topic is: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The Second Half Of The Year

This year has been a hit and miss for me with new releases, some I adored and some I was quite disappointed in. I am hoping that the second half of 2016 will bring me many 5 start books. Here are 10 of my most anticipated books for the rest of year.

P.S I Like You by Kasie West: I love Kasie West, I have yet to have a problem with any of the books that I have read by her and that one just sound so adorable. P.S I Like You is out July 26th.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany: Harry Potter, need I say more. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is out July 31st.

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover: Like Kasie West, I really enjoy reading Hoover’s books and I am quite excited for this one – seems like it’s going to break my heart. It Ends with Us is out August 2nd.

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff: High Fantasy, Schools, Strong Female Protagonist – yes please. I am also going to the book launch here in Melbourne so pretty excited. Nevernight is out August 9th.

Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland: This one sounds so interesting and different, plus it’s by an Aussie author so that is always a plus. Our Chemical Hearts is out September 6th.

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake: I adored Anna Dresses in Blood, so when I heard that Blake was brining out another book I knew I needed it, and then I read the synopsis – I was in love. Three Sisters, One Crown; things are about to get crazy. Three Dark Crowns is out September 20th.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: This one sounds like it’s going to be epic and fantasical. Strange the Dreamer is out September 27th.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo: I really enjoyed Six of Crows when I read it a couple of months ago and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Crooked Kingdom is out September 27th.

Nemesis by Anna Banks: This one sound so interesting and pulling, I am all for the ‘forbidden’ love and when it’s set in a fantasy world it makes it that but better. Nemesis is out October 4th.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer: I love Marissa’s writing, world building, characters, romances and I am so excited to see what she does with this tale. Heartless comes out November 8th.

A while ago I did a post where I gave suggests of books that people might want to read if they liked a certain movie or series. It was both fun to write and create as well as seeing people’s responses, that I wanted to do something similar. So, I bring you a If you like this book you will like this one – #LoveOZYA Edition

If you have been following my #LoveOZYA feature the last couple of months you know that I love OZ YA, so I decided why not suggest beautiful books by Australian authors. LoveOZYA do something similar to this so why not check it out.

The way this works is I have a book that has been written by a UK/US (or even from another country) author and I suggest a book by an Australian author that is similar.

If you liked The Selection Series by Kiera Cass then you might like Masquerade by Kylie Fornasier. Dresses, deception, and more.

If you liked All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven then you might like The Projected by Claire Zorn. Both of these novels deal with grief, mental illness and more.

If you liked The Siren by Kiera Cass you might like Sea Hearts (The Brides of Rollrock Island) by Margo Lanagan. Both deal with sea creatures that are quite different.

If you liked The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare you might like Akarnae by Lynette Nori . Both of these deal with a protagonist taken from one world to another.

If you liked The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (review) then you might like The Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub (review). Both these deal with friendships and how to deal with family.
