Dead Man’s Party:

As the weeks go on each episode of Shadowhunters keeps on getting better and better, I am actually enjoying it at the moment and my hopes are now high that it’s going to turn into something good.

Episode 3 continues off from the cliff hanger in episode 2 – Simon (Alberto Rosende) being taken by the vampires.

I love how the vampires look. The teeth, the pale skin, the clothes that they wear. It’s modern take on old vampires and I like it. In this episode there is the introduction of two vampires and if you are fans of the book you know who they are. Camille Belcourt (Kaitlyn Leeb) and Raphael Santiago (David Castro).

Though Camille looks different from the books, she has the same vibe about her. She is sexy and persuasive and gorgeous.  They have also brought her in quite early compared to the books, however I don’t have a problem with it because I am sure they are doing it for a reason.

Raphael, I am already in love with them. I am one of few people who really likes Raphael from the books. I was so happy when he was casted because he was notably missing from the movie and I loved seeing him on the screen. Castro is going to bring the Raphael that all know and some of us love to light.

We also get to see a bit of Clary’s (Katherine McNamara) anger in this episode. She is fuming and quite anger at the shadowhunters in particular Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) for the kidnapping of Simon. Clary is ready to jump right now and go and get Simon, however the shadowhunters are trying to do in the logical way and plan. They cannot simply walk into Hotel Dumort.

shadowhunters ep3 1

We see a bit of Simon somewhat heroic nature when he tries to escape by throwing a dagger at Raphael.  Which is unsuccessful, but it was still fun to watch.

I love, love, love the sibling banter between Isabelle and Alec (Matthew Daddario). I cannot explain how perfect it is, some of the remarks had me laughing my head off.

In this episode we also get to see more of Hodge, who has this talk with Alec that wanted me to slap him about for. I was like Alec, no don’t believe what he is saying.

In saying that, we also start to see conflict between Alec and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and I just wanted to cry, because no, this cannot happen. But, they are also parabatai, so it kind of all works out and they always have each other’s backs.

shadowhunters ep3 2

The connection between Jace and Clary is starting to improve as well. In the first 2 episodes it was wired and cringe worthy, but as the series is going on, it’s getting better.

Episode 3 is the episode that we are also introduced for the first time to Meliorn (Jade Hassouné). As much as I hate Meliorn as a character, Hassouné played him really well. He has this presences about him that is perfect for Meliorn. The one thing I disliked about this scene was Isabelle. I truly didn’t like the way that she was portrayed in this scene, having sexy time to get information.

Overall, I actually enjoyed episode 3 of Shadowhunters everything is started to come together and each week the episodes are getting better and better. I like where the series is going and even though it’s not a perfect adaptation, I am seeing things from the books appear in the show, even if it’s smal.

read rome

Ancient Greece: I love ancient Greece a lot, I really want more YA books to be set there. I got to study ancient Greece as well, so I am always intrigued.

Ancient Rome: Again, same with ancient Greece, I got to study it in school and I love reading about it.

Ancient Egypt: I didn’t get to study Ancient Egypt in school, but I have done research myself and I really enjoy it.

vikings read

1950’s America: I don’t know what it is about this time, but it calls me.

Time of the Vikings – their time span goes for quite a while so whenever really. The vikings are really interesting people and I really enjoy learning about them. I wish there was more set in this time or even more about the vikings in YA.

Time that pagans were at their best: I love what is believed in this time. I find it magical and very interesting. though I don’t want to be around when the christians were there. I would love to read a book set in this time.

fashion read

1864: Those dresses are just so pretty. I want to read about this through a modern YA text.

Europe 1945: I really enjoy reading books that are set during the war, especially during world war II.  I find it really interesting looking at the war from different countries, people and times during the war.

So there it is. It’s not 10, but it’s all I could think of. Do you know any YA books set in these times that you think I might like? Please do recommend.

Episode Name: The Descent Into Hell Is Easy
Release date: 19 Jan. 2016
Running Time: 42 mins
Starring Katherine McNamara,Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa, Harry Shum Jr.,Alan Van Sprang, Maxim Roy
Watch: Freeform (US) – Netflix (Worldwide)
Episode Reviews: 1|2|

With the knowledge that Valentine is alive and on the hunt for The Mortal Cup, the Institute is on high alert. Not wasting any time, Jace jumps into action and figures Clary’s memories are the key to finding Jocelyn and The Mortal Cup. Unfortunately, Clary’s memories were wiped leaving her without any recollection of this other life that could help her and the team. With only one other option remaining, Jace, Isabelle and a very reluctant Alec take Clary to the City of Bones to face the powerful Silent Brothers. Meanwhile, Luke continues his search for Clary, and Simon tries to come to terms with his best friend’s new life.

The Descent Into Hell Is Easy:

I feel that episode 2 of Shadowhunters was better than last week’s episode, however, I still think that they have a long way to go.

The episode (The Descent into Hell is Easy, directed by Mick Garris) starts off where the first episode left off, pretty much to the second. I really enjoyed that, since the first episode left off with a tense scene between protagonist Clary (Katherine McNamara), Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Simon (Alberto Rosende).

I like when series’ start off where it left off in the previous episode. It doesn’t have to be for every episode, but with how the previous episode ended I thought it was perfect.

Shadowhunters now has opening credits. I like they aren’t too long. I dislike how long the GOT opening credits are. I like a quick short clip and then it’s back to business, however, I don’t like get the song was being used.  Nevertheless, that is just me being picky.

After the second episode, I stand by my decision that the casting was perfect. I loved every character and how the portrayal by the actors/actress’s was pretty spot on.

However, I do wish that the dialogue was better. It was pretty cheesy for most of the episode, especially Jace’s lines. I love Dom and his playing Jace well, however his lines are letting him down. Clary’s lines are also quite cheesy, nevertheless Katherine brings a spark to Clary that oversees it a little.

I like what they are doing with the characters in Shadowhunters. The banter between Simon and Jace is spot on. The teasing between the two, then fighting for Clary’s attention, Simon saying things that Jace has no clue about. I loved seeing something from the book that I loved in the TV Series.

I also love the banter between Alec (Matthew Daddario) and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia). They have the perfect brother/sister relationship. Not only do they look like brother and sister, they act it. The way that they tease each other and having little snips at each other – is what I see them like in the book, so that was nice to see.

I also loved seeing the start of Alec being jealous. It was funny at times, especially when Isabelle was in the picture, however it was great to see.  I cannot wait to see where this goes.

One thing that had me frustrated in this episode was something to do with Magnus and warlocks in general. They wouldn’t have done what happened in this episode, especially Magnus. It’s not in his nature to do what happened. He might not help shadowhunters, but he wouldn’t do what he did in the show.

I loved seeing more of Luke (Isaiah Mustafa). In the books we don’t see much of him or how much he really does care for Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) and Clary so it was great to see the lengths he would go through to find them both.

The ending of episode 2 shows that there is so much more to come and I am getting excited. Episode 3 is going to be an exciting episode that I cannot wait to see.

As much as I am enjoying Shadowhunters, I and everyone else can say that they are working on a small budget. I wish that the CGI was better, however, I hope that I can get used to it.

Overall, episode 2 of Shadowhunters was better than episode 1 and I hope that goes for more episodes to come. I loved the casting, the dialogue lets me down, and I loved the banter between characters and cannot wait to see what episode 3 brings.

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
