Things I’m Loving at the Moment

Things I’m Loving at the Moment

Jun 24, 2020

I don’t talk about non-book stuff or general life things much on here. So today I thought I would share some of the things that I’m loving at the moment. Some of these things are bookish related, some aren’t. I just wanted to share my love for things that I am doing, watching, reading and everything else there is.

Audiobooks: I’ve listened to a couple of audio here and there before but it isn’t something that I did on a regular. But I recently listen to Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo and adored it. If you haven’t read it, please do listen to it. Because it’s without a doubt one of the best audios I’ve listened to. You can check my full review and see why I loved it so much. And since then I’ve listened to a few more. I’m liking to listen to them while I write posts or just when I’m doing things around the house. So if you have any recommendations then please give them to me.

Crossstitch: I’ve posted about this on twitter a little bit, but I’ve loved doing cross-stitch recently. It was something that I had wanted to do for a while and finally got the chance to do it. I love it so much. It’s a great thing to do while I’m watching videos and just chilling. It’s very relaxing and just lets me not think about other things going on. Nearly my whole family has been doing it as well, so it’s been a great family thing. The design I have gotten are so adorable!

Instagram Lives: I normally don’t watch too many Instagram lives, but recently there have been more and more from people that I follow and they have been fantastic. Someone that I have been loving is Arama from amaraluciano_. If you haven’t had the chance to catch Amara on either Amara’s own Instagram or the scrivener_app Instagram. Amara is informative, funny and just great to watch and interact with.

Supernatural: I’m doing another rewatch of Supernatural. I haven’t caught up with the last few series, so I wanted to do a re-watch. I just love it so much. If you don’t know me, I don’t like horror, I hate it. But supernatural does it in a way that I can watch it and not be terrified. It’s a good combo of being funny and scary at the same time. I’m on to season 7 at the moment and can’t wait to get to more current seasons.

I also want to highlight my Beta Reading service that I’m offering. It’s another thing that I love doing. And wanted to share it with you all.

And those are some of the things that I’m loving at the moment. What are some of the things that you have been loving recently? Let’s Chat!

Romance Recs: Recent Romances Reads That I Love

Romance Recs: Recent Romances Reads That I Love

Jun 20, 2020

In today’s post, I share my next post in my romance recs series. I thought I would do something different today and share some of the romances that I’ve loved reading this year. Some are recent reviews and some are authors blacklists. But I’m really excited to share my favourites with you all.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune: None of you should be surprised that this has made my list. It’s one of my favourite books this year and one of my favourites of all time. It’s a magical and profound novel that truly takes the reader on an experience. It will make you smile and laugh and just feel safe. It’s a warm novel that does with what it’s like to be a little different. You can check out my full review now.

The Fallen Men series by Giana Darling: I’ve spoken about this series a few times recently, but I seriously love it. It does include a few questionable romances. But I think it’s such an interesting MC series. There are some intense moments for sure, but it’s not as dark as some of the ones that I have read. After the Fall, killed me. But I’m really excited for the next book! eck. It’s coming out in the next couple of months and the snippets have made me so excited.

Kings of Mayhem MC by Penny Dee: Another MC series that I picked up recently and loved. I really like the dynamics of characters in this one. I really enjoy the family aspect and I can’t wait to read more. Each novel is different but also ties together the overall arching story – which I really enjoy.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata: I’ve been slowly making my way through Mariana Zapata’s backlist and this is the second one I’ve read so far. I really enjoyed this one. I think like most of her books the romance is really slow, but I enjoy that. Especially in contrast to other romances novels of the same nature. Anyway, I really enjoyed this one.

Rebel (Women Who Dare #1) by Beverly Jenkins: Rebel is such a fantastic historical romance and I can’t wait to read more from Beverly Jenkins. The romance was fantastic, the characters were entertaining and I want to know more about the family. I already have a couple of ebooks on hold for me to read.

The Ones Who Got Away Series by Roni Loren: This series had been on my tbr for some time, but I finally picked up the first two books a few months ago. I really enjoyed them both so much. They tore me to pieces, but they were fantastic. I’m hoping to finish the series this year, but I’m taking it slowly because I just cry.

Hades Hangmen by Tillie Cole: If you don’t like dark books then this series is not for you. It’s not for the faint-hearted and I really would not recommend it to most people. But if you like dark MC romances then this one is for you. I can’t wait for more books in this series cause things are getting interesting!

Old Fashioned (Becker Brothers #4) by Kandi Steiner: This has to be my favourite from the series. I enjoyed the others, but this one really stood out to me. I loved the romance, the family feels it just made me feel happy. It was also a great wrap up to the series and the overall arching storyline.

Bringing Down the Duke (A League of Extraordinary Women #1) by Evie Dunmore: I loved Bringing Down the Duke. It was fun and entertaining, while also being heartbreaking and challenging. The romance between Annabell and Sebastian was swoon-worthy and exactly what I want from my historical romances.

Chasing Cassandra (The Ravenels #6) by Lisa Kleypas:  The romance is adorable and I loved seeing both Tom and Cassandra fall for one another. This was a fantastic final book in the Ravenels series and wrapped up everything so well. Lisa Kleypas knows how to write addicting storylines, beautiful romances and books that will leave the reader with a smile on their face.

Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros: This is heartbreaking, beautiful and just so good. Camden and Willow were perfect protagonists that each had their own story. Rebecca Yarros knows how to tear me apart and she did again. The romance in this one is so perfect, it’s a friend to lovers, to absolutely perfect.

And that is it for this post. Those are some of my favourite romance books I’ve read so far this year! Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Let’s Chat!

My Favourite Underrated Books

My Favourite Underrated Books

Jun 8, 2020

Today I thought I would share some of my favourite books that I think are underrated. These are the books that I think don’t get enough love. That I think deserve more love. I’ve tried to include a range of books here from different genres. As well as readership and publication date.

And they all have one thing in common, they deserve to be read and loved by more people. I’m pretty lucky and I’m a bookseller. I can recommend all these books to customers, I can share my love for them that way. But I also get to share my love for books that I think are underrated here. So here we go, like always these are in no order.

This is How We Change the Ending by Vikki Wakefield: I cannot stop recommending this book. Not only is it one of my favourite books I’ve read this year, but I also think one of my favourite #LoveOzYA books I’ve read. It’s fantastic and brilliant. It’s a poignant coming of age story that captures the lives of those that struggle day by day. That tries to make the best of what they have. Check out my full review for more

Bringing Down the Duke (A League of Extraordinary Women #1) by Evie Dunmore: I haven’t seen a lot of love for this one, especially in the romance world. But gosh does it deserve it. It was fun and entertaining, while also being heartbreaking and challenging. The romance between Annabell and Sebastian was swoon-worthy and exactly what I want from my historical romances

Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros: I think a lot of you now will know how much I love reading Rebecca Yarros books and her latest one was just as fantastic. It’s heartbreaking, beautiful and just so good. It explores the notion of guilt and grief, as well as a fresh start. The romance in this one is so perfect, it’s a friend to lovers, to absolutely perfect. If you are looking for a romance that is haunting, but also beautiful, then this is for you. Full Review

Dear Martin (Dear Martin #1) by Nic Stone: This one may surprise a lot of you, but I think it’s very highly overrated. When it first came out there was some hype about it, but I feel that it faded just as quick. But this book needs to be read. It needs to be understood. And it needs to be loved. I just finished it early in this week and gosh I wish I had read it even earlier. It’s fantastic.

And I Darken (The Conqueror’s Saga #1) by Kiersten White: This is one of my favourite series of all time and I feel that it isn’t read enough! It’s a fantastic genre-switch historical fiction about Vlad the Impaler! Come on. Doesn’t what sounds fantastic? It’s such a well thought out series and is so underrated.

When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah: If you haven’t read this book, please do. I know I talk about it a lot, but I think it’s something that needs to be read by everyone. It’s such a fantastic novel that looks into race and asylum seekers.

The Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub: Another #LoveOzYA that is simply brilliant. If you haven’t check out the why I love Aussie YA so much please do. And this one is such a great read. It explores coming of age, and it will tear you apart over and over again. So have that in mind.

Trust by Kylie Scott: I wish more people would read this one. It’s one of my favourite Kylie Scott and has a plus-size female protagonist. It’s a refreshing YA contemporary that I enjoyed. And it’s underrated. The romance was so great and I just want more YA romances like this.

Every Breath (Every #1) by Ellie Marney: I could not do this list and not mention something from Ellie Marney. Seriously, if you haven’t picked anything up from her please, please do. They are fantastic. And she has a new book coming out this year!

The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers: I bring this book up every once and a while, but I have to talk about it again. This is such a good YA mystery/thriller. It’s intense and different and that is why I like it so much. But not many people have read it. It’s a great book for someone that wants to try and the thriller genre but isn’t sure how they feel about it.

And that is it for this post! What are some of the books that you think are underrated? Do we share any that is the same? What underrated book do you think I should read? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.
