Current Auto-Buy Authors

Current Auto-Buy Authors

Nov 9, 2020

Today I’m sharing some of my current auto-buy authors. These are the authors that I would buy books from without knowing too much about the book itself. I go through many phases of reading and this changes the author that become auto-buy to me. There are some authors that have stayed on this list for years now, but as my reading habits have changed so have the authors on this list.

So today I’m sharing the authors that are currently on my auto-buy list. There’s a mix of YA and romance authors here, which pretty much sums up my readings habits at the moment. Like always these are in no order.

Cassandra Clare: There should be no surprise that Cassie is on this list. She has been an auto-buy author for me ever since I started reading her books. I just love them all. They have everything that I want in them and what I look for especially in a young adult fantasy. Her latest series has by far been some of my favourite things that she has written and I cannot wait for Chain of Iron. She is also one of the only authors that I would by multiple of the same book in different editions.

Rebecca Yarros: Has been a romance author that I have been reading to years now. She is one of the first that I really fell in love with and have adored everything that I have picked up from her. I think my favourite has to be The Last Letter – which will make you sob. But I also enjoyed her latest release Muses & Melodies (Hush Note, #3).

Sarina Bowen: I think there is one of two books that I haven’t read from Sarina as of yet. And that isn’t for any other reasons, that I haven’t had time really. I have enjoyed most of Sarina Bowen’s books and each time another one is announced I’m excited to pick them up.

Elizabeth Acevedo: I’ve read all three of Elizabeth Acevedo’s YA books this year and fell in love with them all, they were all 4-5 stars for me and I would pick any of her other books up without a second thought. I adore her writing, her voice and her characters. They are honest and real and everything that I love especially in contemporary YA.

Sabrina Jeffries: Sabrina has come to be one of my favourite historical romance authors. I love everything from her characters to the romances to the stories that she writes. She has easily become an author that I will buy a book from without second-guessing or even knowing much about it.

Ellie Marney: Ellie is another author that I don’t even have to know what the book is about before I buy it. She is one of my favourite #LoveOzYA authors and is one that I’m always recommending to others hands down.

Casey McQuiston: I’m putting Casey on this list, but I’ve only read one of her books, but there is no doubt that I will love anything that she writes. I’m so excited for One Last Stop.

And that’s it! Those are some of the authors that are currently on my auto-buy list! Do we share any that are the same? Who are some of yours? Let’s Chat!

Books That Should Be On High School Syllabus

Books That Should Be On High School Syllabus

Oct 26, 2020

I didn’t like most of the books that I read in High School. Most of them were just not good at all. And I know that I am not the only one. So today I thought I would share some of the books that I think should be on High School Syllabus’.

There are many different reasons why I picked these books on this list. I think one of the major faults of high school English book lists is that they just don’t pick the right books for teens. They are always choosing classics and while at times they are good. It’s so much harder for teens to connect with the characters and the story. I love it when I see YA books on the list, it just makes more sense. So today I’m sharing the young adult books that I think are perfect for high school English book list. Like always these are in no order.

I would also like to note that some of these might be on some school lists out there, but these are the books that I think should be on more of those lists.

Dear Martin (Dear Martin #1) by Nic Stone: I don’t think I need to say any more about this one, but it’s simply fantastic. It explores the injustices of the world and why the #BlackLivesMatter movement is so important to understand as well as support. It’s also on the shorter side which I think is a plus for the younger years.

This is How We Change the Ending by Vikki Wakefield: I know I have talked about this one a lot recently, but I think it’s a fantastic choice for teens to read. It’s a powerful read that explores the low socioeconomic communities in Australia and how it impacts daily lives, especially teens trying to make their way through school.

When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah: Ever since I read this one I said that it should be on every school list out there. It explores asylum seekers, racism, and the way that the media can manipulate things that happen in the world. It’s a great exploration of Australia as well.

The Hate U Give (The Hate U Give #1) by Angie Thomas: This is another one that you shouldn’t be surprised is on my list. I don’t think I need to talk about this one too much. But it’s brilliant. It explores things from racism, police brutality, activism and more. Plus it has a book to movie adaptation which is always a good thing.

How It Feels to Float by Helena Fox: I feel like I haven’t spoken about this book enough.  It’s an honest novel that doesn’t shy away from the things that might hurt us. It’s a candid representation of mental illness and grief that will leave the reader feeling heartbroken yet so hopeful.

The Yearbook Committee by Sarah Ayoub: I read this one several years ago now, but it still sticks with me today. It explores teens and the notion of stereotyping. How we shouldn’t;t be defined by stereotypes and be someone that we want to be. This is a hard but honest read.

And those are some of the books that I think should be on high school book lists! Have you read any of these? Are you planning on reading any of these? What book do you think should be on the list? Let’s Chat!

Books To Give You Those Spring Feels

Books To Give You Those Spring Feels

Oct 17, 2020

Today I thought I would share books that give me the feels of spring. Now that it’s started to get that little warmer where I live, it’s starting to feel more like spring. So today I would share some of the books that I think are perfect to read in spring and give you those spring feels.

I tried to recommend all types of books here from young adult to romance and everything in between. Spring is also the end of the year here in Australia so I tent to either re-read or try and get what I wanted to read in in the year done – quickly. But anyway here we go. Like always these are in no order.

The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn: I just finished this one and now I want everyone to read it. Historial Romances are perfect for spring. They are fun, entertaining and exactly what you need. And this one has it all. I’m so ready to read the rest of this series now.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune: I could not do this list and not include this book. I’m going to recommend this one to everyone and anyone. It’s perfect spring read and one that you can just sit down and smile at.

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales: While this isn’t set in spring, it gives me that spring feels. It just has all the right things that I look for in a contemporary YA. If you haven’t picked this one up and looking for a great YA read, then pick this one up.

Always Only You (Bergman Brothers #2) by Chloe Liese: I love this book so much. It has fantastic disability rep, the romance is adorable plus adds to that, it’s a sports romance and I’m in love. It is also emotional and heartbreaking at times.

The Guinevere Deception (Camelot Rising #1) by Kiersten White: I haven’t talked about this one in ages, but the cover is the first thing that gives me the spring feels. I don’t know what exactly gives me the spring feels about this one, but if you haven’t picked it up yet please do.

The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke #1) by Tessa Dare: This one just feels like spring to me. The cover is the first clue, but even when I read it, I just feel happy. This is such a fantastic historical romacne and if you haven’t read a Tessa Dare and want to start, here is a great place.

Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers #4) by Lisa Kleypas: There was no chance that I wasn’t going to include this one here. It’s fantastic and exactly what I want to read in spring. Plus look at that cover. It’s exactly what spring is.

The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde: This is another one that just reminds me of spring, the bright colours of the cover, plus the book itself. Brightsiders is such a fun read that always makes me happy. It’s also a little emotional so be ready for that.

Rookie Move (Brooklyn Bruisers #1) by Sarina Bowen: This is another one that screams spring to me right from the start. The colours used in the cover, plus the feeling that the book gives me. It’s what I want to read in spring.

And those are some of the books that will give you those spring feels. Have you read any of these books? Do you agree? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
