Starring Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Will Tudor, Isaiah Mustafa, Harry Shum Jr.
Directed By: Michael Goi
Watch: Freeform (US) – Netflix (Worldwide)
Episode Reviews: Season 1 | Season 2

Those of Demon Blood:

This episode was somewhat intense. I had no idea what was going to happen next and it kept me watching with my eyes peeled the whole episode. Shadowhunters are turning up dead, and not just dead killed by downworlders, stripped of their marks. They take it all away.

However, the shadowhunters are ready to fight back and they will do anything to save their people. Inquisitor Herondale has taken Jace under her wing as her grandson and expects him to do everything that she says.

Meanwhile, the tension starts to rise between shadowhunters and downworlders and if they don’t come together soon – all hell is going to break lose.

Inquisitor Herondale

We really start to see more of Inquisitor Herondale in Those of Demon Blood and wow. It’s not that she is evil, but she does what she thinks needs to be done. And she doesn’t care much for downworlders.

We see quite a few people stand up for her in this episode including, Alec and Clary. And while they don’t agree on much, they can relate to this situation together. They are both dating downworlders.

It was really nice to see Alec stand up for Magnus and same with Clary. It’s nice to see that yes Shadowhunters and Downworlders can be on the same side.

Malec

We really get to see the tension between Alex and Magnus grow in Those of Demon Blood. While I wasn’t expecting this so early in the series, I knew it was going to happen eventually. The audience is starting to see the different lives of Shadowhunters and Warlocks and how hard it is to be together.

My heart broke for them both. But at times  I wanted to knock some sense into Magnus. I think that he forgets, that while he doesn’t have to report to someone, Alec does. He can’t do what he wants, he has to follow the Clave – he is a shadowhunter.

I feel like the tension between these two is going to grow, throughout the rest of the season.

Simon and Clary

While I do like and think they are cute together, I really want to break up soon – please. I need my Clary and Jace okay.

Downworlders

We really get to see some of the downworlders true colours in Those of Demon Blood. We do see that some are evil and don’t want Shadowhunters around. But we also see what they go through because of what they are.

Jace

The audience is able to see a side of Jace that we haven’t really before. He really starts to struggle with the Herondale name. He has these people to live up to and he doesn’t want to tread on any toes. He has just found out that he has a blood relative and he would do anything for her, even if it means going against what he believes.

Overall

I enjoyed Those of Demon Blood. It wasn’t my favourite episode, but I still did really enjoy it. It’s starting to open a lot of doors and I am really excited to see where it does take us. I am also really happy we are starting to get Izzy back, I cannot wait for her to be even more kissass.

Have you watched this week’s episode? What did you think? Are you planning on watching it? Nevertheless, what do you think is going to happen next?

Don’t forget to check out my Lord of Shadows review. However, it was heartbreaking and epic all at the same time.

You are not your ownShadowhunters: Season 2 Episode 12

Episode Name: You Are Not Your Own
Release date: 12 June 2017
Running Time: 42 minutes
Starring Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Will Tudor, Isaiah Mustafa, Harry Shum Jr.
Directed By: Matthew Hastings
Watch: Freeform (US) – Netflix (Worldwide)
Episode Reviews: Season 1 | Season 2

Everything is turned on its head as the greater demon Azazil remains at large. Magnus and Valentine have switched bodies and Sebastian is making a statement.

You Are Not Your Own:

After the ending of last weeks episode, I knew that things were going to go down in You Are Not Your Own. Magnus and Valentine are still in each other bodies and time is on the line. Imogen Herondale wants the cup and Valentine dead and will stop at nothing to do so. Imogen has also shown an interest in Clary and Jace’s abilities.

Sebastian has entered the institute and starts to make friends with his friendly nature. He has started to wiggle his way into all their lives.

Body Switch

A lot of You Are Not Your Own focused on the body switch that happened between Magnus and Valentine in last week’s episode.  This episode was just so well done. Probably one of my favorite episodes to date. Alan Van Sprang and Harry Shum Jr. were absolutely fantastic.

I really enjoy the concept of switching bodies and having Magnus stuck in Valentine’s bodies begging and trying to get Alec to realise that it’s him.

Valentine stuck it Magnus’s body was hilarious. It created this sign of relief in a very tense episode. It was great seeing Valentine try and adapt to being in a warlocks body and harness his powers. It was like a little kid trying to swim for the first time.

Magnus stuck in Valentine’s body on the other hard was heartbreaking. How he was trying to show Alec, that it was him in every way possible. The pain that he had to go through and now will go through, just broke me.

You Are Not Your Own

Clary

Clary had a difficult time in You Are Not Your Own.  She is still struggling with the grief of her mum and finding out that Jace isn’t her brother. Because now she doesn’t have any family. We see this impact her rune powers and it was fascinating to see.

In saying that, we see this amazing scene between Jace and Clary that worked just so well. The remarks, the tension between them. I feel that we are going to be more tension between these two in the coming episodes.

Jace

While Jace wasn’t in You Are Not Your Own all that much, his scenes were really well done. Again the scene with Clary worked wondered. But, we also get to see a different side of him, one that I cannot wait to explore in coming episodes.

However, there was a kind of big reveal in You Are Not Your Own, but it didn’t feel big enough to me. I wanted more of a reaction and I just didn’t get it.

Sizzy

We start to see some really cute interaction between Isabelle and Simon in You Are Not Your Own. And I am so excited to see where this takes us. I reckon by the end of the season Simon and Clary will have split and the tension between Isabelle and Simon will be at its max.

You Are Not Your Own

Acting and Script

This season and even 2B have really impressed me. Season 1 the acting and script were just not good. At all really. But this season there has been so many improvements that I am loving each episode. Although it’s not perfect, it is improving and that is all I can ask for.

Overall

This episode was intense but really good. We find out stuff that we hadn’t known before and everything is starting to turn into motion. However, things and falling into place and all hell is going to break loose. Really excited for next week.

Have you watched You Are Not Your Own yet? What did you think of it? How are you finding 2B so far? Nevertheless, what are you looking forward to? Let’s Chat!

2x11 Mea Maxima CulpaShadowhunters: Season 2 Episode 11

Episode Name: Mea Maxima Culpa
Release date: 5 June 2017
Running Time: 42 minutes
Starring Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Will Tudor, Isaiah Mustafa, Harry Shum Jr.
Directed By: Matthew Hastings
Watch: Freeform (US) – Netflix (Worldwide)
Episode Reviews: Season 1 | Season 2

The downworlders retaliate after Valentine’s attacks. The New York Institute deals with the repercussions Valentine caused. New faces immerge from the shadows to help the Shadowhunters.

Mea Maxima Culpa:

I am so glad Shadowhunters is back. It’s been a long couple of months without having it to watch every Tuesday night with the family. Don’t forget to check out my reviews of the Season 2A.

The first half of season 2 was crazy, there were unexpected deaths and story lines that had me wanting more and the premier of 2B was not a disappointment.

Mea Maxima Culpa starts only a few days after the end of 2A and everything is not going right. Luke to having trouble with his pack, there is a new demon on the lose and there is still no sign of the mortal cup or soul sword.  Jace is still holding everything in after finding out Clary is not his sister and Clary and Simon finally has some peace to have some time to themselves.

Isabelle is still having a lot of trouble with her addiction and while trying to find some blood she runs into a new character, that we all love to hate.

Jace

There was a big focus on Jace in Mea Maxima Culpa. His struggling coming to terms that he has angel blood, finding out that Clary isn’t his sister and the pressure trying to find two of the mortal instruments.

We really got to see a different side of Jace in this episode and I loved seeing it. Up until now, the audience didn’t really get to see his emotions come through. But his walls break and we get to see a softer side of Jace.

There is this lovely scene at the start of  Mea Maxima Culpa with Alec while they are training together. And it was just so good! The audience was really able to see their parabatai bond come through and I was smiling throughout.

Clary + Simon

I saw a lot on twitter before the episode about how they are upset that Clary and Simon are together. I think everyone has forgotten that they were together for a little bit. I don’t even mind at all. Mea Maxima Culpa

They were adorable together in the scenes that they had. The way that I can describe these two is very sweet. They know each other so well, that they are able to come together easily. I know that they won’t be together much long – probably by the end of this season. But, it’s still nice to see some normal in this world.

Luke and his pack

We see in this episode that Luke is starting to lose the control of his pack and I know that there is more to come. We know that the downworlders are going to fight back soon and this is only the start. I just hope that Luke doesn’t lose the pack.

Demon on the loose

I do love the inclusion of this. We need to have something that is going to cause more havoc, it’s just the way that it works. I am really excited to see what this storyline brings, especially with how the episode ended. It’s going to be crazy and fun all at the same time.

Mea Maxima Culpa

I adored the scene with Luke at a murder scene. He is this big time cop, and I loved this scene with his new partner. Cracked me up.

Overall

I really enjoyed Mea Maxima Culpa. It was a great way to start mid-season. We know that there is more to come and it’s just waiting there. I am so excited to see more of Sebastian and see what they are going to do with him and his storyline. I think that we are all going to be on the edge of our seats soon.

Have you watched Mea Maxima Culpa yet? Nevertheless, how do you feel about it? What are you looking forward to for the rest of this season? Let’s Chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
