My Best Friend Picks My TBR

My Best Friend Picks My TBR

Feb 27, 2020

I did something that I normally don’t do. I handed my TBR off to someone and they picked what I have to read.

When my best friend Ely and I, saw this post from Laura and Fadwa, we knew that we needed to jump onto this. So I handed my TBR over to Ely and she picked 5 books that she wants me to read. We’ve been best friends for some time now and although we have very similar tastes in books, we still vary in what we do like. So this is a test for both of us.

The only rule we have for this is to read the books within this year.  We both tried to pick the books that we both already own, so it was a little easier. Both of us complain all the time to one another that we have massive TBR’s and hopefully this will be a way for us to try and conquer them. Even if it’s just a little bit. But anyway, here are the books that she chose for me.

The Diviners (The Diviners #1) by Libba Bray

Ely: I told you you’d probably hate me right off the bat. I know it’s huge, but I have my reasons. Firstly, Goodreads tells me it’s one of the oldest books on your TBR, so you’re welcome. Secondly, I actually really want to reread this myself so what better way to convince myself to do that than to force you to do it with me!

Angel: I hate you! No, I really don’t but, The Diviners has been on my TBR for as long as I can remember. But I always avoided reading it. I have no idea why really. I think it just scares me, which doesn’t make sense because I love bigger books. Honestly, I don’t really have a good excess for not picking this one up, I just haven’t. It has so many themes that I love reading, and I think this is the push that I need.

Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes

Ely: I don’t know how you haven’t read this book yet, because I kind of really loved it so you probably will too. It’s just a really sweet contemporary, which I know you love. Besides, I’m pretty sure the rest of the books on this list will rip out your heart, so I’ve got to make sure there’s something a little happy.

Angel: I don’t know how I haven’t read this book yet either. This one has been on my TBR before it even came out, but since I couldn’t get it in Australia right away, I simply forgot. But now I’ve brought it and it’s sitting on my kindle waiting for me to read. I’m going to get to this one in the next couple of weeks for sure. Again it sounds right up my alley and something that I will love.

One by Sarah Crossan

Ely: This book is going to destroy you. Like straight up, you’re going to die. And oh my god I can’t wait. You know I’m going to make you send me updates the entire time you’re reading this, right?

Angel: You like to tear me apart don’t you. I’m a very emotional person, so I cry even at the smallest of things. And the main reason I’ve been avoiding this one and haven’t picked it up is that I know I’m going to be destroyed. But I also love that. I love a book that will wreck me because then I know the author has done something right. I’ve enjoyed Sarah Crossan’s books in the past, so I think I can finally do it.

Prince Charming (Royals #1) by Rachel Hawkins

Ely: I haven’t actually read this one myself so I have no idea what I might be subjecting you to here. But I’m kind of tossing up about whether I want to buy this one or not, so you might as well be my guinea pig. That’s what friends are for!

Angel: I got this one last year when I was in Denver and I just haven’t had the chance to pick it up. I know I’m your guinea pig most of the time, but that is okay. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one and it sounds like something that I will adore. It sounds so damn cute.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare

Ely: Okay but I desperately need someone to talk about this with. And you know you’re going to want to read it before Chain of Gold anyway, so really I’m just helping you out here…y tearing your heart apart multiple times. You’re so welcome.

Angel: Again I don’t know why I haven’t picked this one up. I really don’t. I’ve read a couple of stories, but not the whole thing. I have a physical copy of this and plan to read it real soon. However, I’m currently reading Chain of Gold (And loving I might add), but I will be picking this up soon. I always find anthologies hard to read sometimes, nevertheless, I can’t wait to read it.

And that is it for this post! I’m hoping to get to at least some of these books in March, but I never really know. Have you read any of these books? Are you planning on it? Also, don’t forget to check out the books I choose for Ely. Let’s Chat!

Last 10 Books Added To My TBR

Last 10 Books Added To My TBR

Apr 14, 2019

Today I thought I would share the last 10 books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR. I always like finding new books that I want to read. So I thought I would share some of the books that I’ve recently found that I cannot wait to read.

I use my Goodreads ‘to read’ shelf to add books that I’ve heard amazing things about, or can’t wait to read. In saying that I don’t own most of these books. I know a lot of people use it as a list of books they own and need to read, but that just wasn’t working for me. So whenever I hear or see a book that I want to read – I add it to my list. Like always this list is in no particular order.

How We Roll by Natasha Friend: I don’t know how this book slipped by me. How We Roll came out mid last year and follows Quinn who is living life until she’s diagnosed with a condition called alopecia and all her friends abandon her. Then there is Nick who was the football star until an accident caused him to lose both his legs. Now Quinn and Nick and maybe they can believe in themselves again. The paperback comes out in June so really excited.

Splinters of Scarlet by Emily Bain Murphy: This is another very recent find. This is a historical fantasy that is said to be a mix of Downton Abbey with magic. Set in Copenhagen, this one follows an orphaned seamstress who goes to work with a retired ballerina. There she uses her magic to investigate her father’s death while working with the same family.

The Arrival of Someday by Jen Malone: Born with a rare liver disorder, Amelia Linehan was living her life pretty well. She is getting ready for college, about to start a mural she’d been commissioned to paint and winning at roller derby. But a flare of her liver disorder throws her whole life array. With no guarantee of a viable organ transplant, everything Amelia’s been sure of has been turned on its head. And then Will turns up. A friend from the past that just seems to make all the bad things disappear for a while. But that won’t last forever.

Sick Kids In Love by Hannah Moskowitz: This one just called out to me so much. It follows Isabel, Jewish and chronically ill advice columnist who breaks her no-dating rule. She breaks this rule for a sick boy in the hospital. But when a family secret threatens their new romance, she must choose between breaking his heart or saying with him and learning to live with the consequences. Hannah is the author of books like Teeth and Break.

Fix Her Up (Hot and Hammered #1) by Tessa Bailey: A new romance series from Tessa Bailey. After an injury ends Travis Ford baseball career his life is a mess. He has returned to his home town and has started to work for his best friends house flipping business. But it isn’t just those reminding him of his best bits in town that is making life a little difficult. It’s also Georgie, his buddy’s little sister, who is definitely not a kid anymore. Travis just wants to get on with this life. But somehow Georgie makes him feel whole again.

Letters to Molly (Maysen Jar #2) by Devney Perry: I read the first book in this series last year and really enjoyed it, so this was a quick addition to my TBR. And I was fascinated by Molly and Finn Alcott, and now we get their story. Molly and Finn seemed to have the perfect marriage, but then it all falls apart. And when the news of their divorce starts to spread, Molly has to find comfort with her kids and try and find a new perfect. But then a letter shows up. A letter Finn wrote after their first date. Week after week more letters appear, and slowly Molly starts to heal. It would be perfect if Finn was the one sending them.

Held Against You by Season Vining: I don’t even know how this one ended up on my TBR, it just sounded interesting. While getting mixed reviews, I think I need to read this one myself. Kat is on the run. Accused of a horrible crime, Kat moves from town to town with only the clothes on her back. And then he catches her. This bounty hunter never fails to capture his prey. But then there is someone about Kat that stops him in his tracks. Now they are driving across the country together and they can’t deny the spark.

A Heart So Fierce and Broken (A Curse So Dark and Lonely #2) by Brigid Kemmerer: Yes, yes, yes. A Curse So Dark and Lonely has to be one of my favourite reads so far this year. So you can bet that this one was added right to my TBR. I don’t know how I am going to wait the year for this one, I really don’t. Especially with how the first book finished. Holy.

The Great Unknowable End by Kathryn Ormsbee: When everything falls apart, Stella has to pick up the pieces. Galliard has always lived his life with the Red Sun. They accept him for his tics and everything that comes with it. But then he is denied the resident artist role and for the first time starts to think of his life out of the compound. When Stella and Galliard met, what follows is something very strange. Red rain, storms out of nowhere and a countdown clock. But no one knows what will happen when the clock hits zero. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that includes a protagonist that has Tourette’s and that makes me so so excited.

Rafe: A Buff Male Nanny by Rebekah Weatherspoon: This just sounds like a fun read. And sometimes I need that, so adding it to my TBR was easy. When Dr Sloan Copeland live in nanny bails without any notices, Sloan needs to find someone to watch her twin girls fast. And Rafe Whitcomb comes in for the rescue. Not only does he win over Sloan’s daughter, but also Sloan herself. And it doesn’t take long for the Copelands to invite Rafe into their home.

And this is it! Those are the last 10 books I’ve added to my TBR. From fantasy to romance, this list really shows the range of books that I love to read. What are the books that you’ve last added to your TBR? Have you added any more now? Let’s Chat!

Books That I Can’t Wait To Read in 2019

Books That I Can’t Wait To Read in 2019

Jan 8, 2019

There are a lot of books that I can’t wait to read this year, and it’s only January. So I thought I would share some of my most anticipated books for the next four months. I’ve included a range of different genre’s and readerships and I am so excited to see what 2019 brings. I’ve said this a couple times now, but I read a range of different books in 2018 and I hope that this year is the same.

But anyway here we go. I’ve done these by month just so it’s a little easier but other than that they are in no particular order.

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air #2) by Holly Black: I have this one sitting right next to me, it’s my next read. But I had to have it on this list. Cruel Prince was shocking, dark and oh so brilliant and I have yet to hear a bad thing about book two. I am so excited to fall back into the world and fae and court intrigue. Bring it on.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely (A Curse So Dark and Lonely #1) by Brigid Kemmerer: I’ve adored Brigid Kemmerer’s contemporary novels, so when I saw this one pop up, I knew I had to pick it up and gosh does it sound entertaining. Said to be a Beauty and the Beast retelling, I think this one is for me.

Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry: It wouldn’t be a good year for if I didn’t have a Katie McGarry book to read. And yes I am so ready for it. I did a massive Katie McGarry re-read last month, and like always this sounds right up with the books that I love. Katie McGarry books are never easy to read through. There is also heartbreak, but also to do with family good or bad.

Overnight Sensation (Brooklyn Bruisers #5) by Sarina Bowen: YES, YES, YES. I need this one now, please and thank you. I love this series, I mean it’s all about Ice Hockey and you know how much I love them. Also, it’s about Castro and gosh give me this one.

Enchantée by Gita Trelease: This caught my eye late last year and now I can’t wait to pick it up. Paris in 1789, with a little bit of magic. It brings two of my favourite genre’s together; historical fiction and fantasy. Just go and read the synopsis and tell me what you think.

On the Come Up by Angie Thomas: A new Angie Thomas, need I say more. I still try and recommend THUG whenever I can, and now with this coming out, I can give them more Angie Thomas love. And I think I would pick this up even if it wasn’t Angie Thomas because man does it sound good.

The Risk (Briar U #2) by Elle Kennedy: New Elle Kennedy? Yes, please. I adored Brenna in The Chase, so I am so looking forward to getting to know not only her more but her man. Plus it’s a sports romance, what more can I ask for.

The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros: My favourite romance authors are just giving it to me this year. Another military novel from Rebecca Yarros that I know will tear me apart. Seriously. The synopsis just kills me, so have no idea how I am going to survive the whole book, but bring it on.

Lovely War by Julie Berry: I hadn’t heard anything about this book before I started making this list and know I need it! Like right now. Not only is it historical fiction, but also includes Greek gods. It just sounds so interesting and something that I already know I am going to love to bits.

Eyes on Me by Rachel Harris: I haven’t read a Rachel Harris in so long and I’m excited she is bringing out a new YA. It just sounds so cute and I can’t. Most of the time I really don’t enjoy dancing in books, I don’t know really. But I think it’s going to work perfectly right here.

Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte: I have had a copy of this for months now, but I just haven’t had time to pick it up and read it. But let me tell you how excited I am about this #LoveOZYA. I have known Astrid for years now and I am so happy that I get to read something like this.

The Everlasting Rose (The Belles #2) by Dhonielle Clayton: I feel weird putting this one on my list. While I didn’t love the first book, I am really excited to see where the story is taken. I kind of don’t know what to expect and that feels great.

Every Moment After by Joseph Moldover: This book is going to make me cry like a baby, but also how good does it sound? I think it’s going to be one of those books that stays with me forever and I can’t wait.

The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1) by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu: Yer, I don’t think anyone would be surprised that this one is on my list at all. Magnus and Alec, just as they are getting together, off in Paris. And fighting demons – give me, please.

Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett: New book from Jenn Bennett, um yes. As soon as I read the synopsis of this one, I knew that I needed to pick it up. I’ve loved all of Jenn Bennett’s novels that I have read I expect nothing less. But I think this one might just stand out even more.

Breaking His Rules by Aliza Mann: I hadn’t heard of this one before I saw Nick share it on her twitter and now I need it. I also think I need something not as heartbreaking as the other books that I plan to read this month.

And that is it! Not going to lie, some of these might change as the year goes on. But as of today, these are the books that I can’t wait to read in the coming months of 2019. What are some of your most anticipated reads for the first few months of 2019? Do we share any that’s the same? Let’s Chat!

While you are here, I have recently started a Ko-fi account, so if you would like to support me with some coffee, I would like that very much. If not a follow will be just as nice. You can follow me via Bloglovin or through email, on the sidebar.

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
