Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Character Names I Love/Unusual Character Names

Oct 22, 2013
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that one of the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All Bloogers are then welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is:  Top Ten Character Names I Love or Top Ten Unusual Character Names
So I decide that I will mix these two ideas together as I didn’t think I would get enough of one. Then I thought about it, if they are unusual names and they are on this list I actually love them, and if the names are pretty popular names but I just still seem to love them. Like I say every week these are in no particular order.

1. Roar – Roar is from the Under the Ever Night Trilogy and its prequel novella Roar and Liv. This name is so unusual but fits so well into the story, and he does sort of reminds me of a lion so I guess that fits. In saying I would probably never name my children Roar if I ever had any, but for this dystopian novel, I think it’s perfect.

2. Rosemarie Hathaway – Rosemarie Hathaway is from the amazing series Vampire Academy.  I just love this name, it’s not that unusual but I just seem to love it and you could like Rosemarie in VA does go by Rose.

3. Vasilisa – Another name from the Vampire Academyseries, in the character of Vasilisa Dragomir but this name is very unusual. Firstly I have never read a book with this name in it other than VA and secondly I know of no one with this name but I just seem to love. Vasilisa means ‘Queen, Royal’ and if I so say so myself, Vasilisa fits perfect with the Character she is.

4. Luna – Luna Lovegood is from the Harry Potter Series, she appears in book 4 onwards. I just love this name and always will. I guess I think I love it as I think of Luna as a strong character, so I when I hear the name Luna I don’t think of some nutball  I think of someone that is strong mentally, I think of this quote ‘ Luna taught as that being yourself is much more interesting than being someone else’
5. Katniss – from the Hunger Games trilogy, this name is very unusual and I have never heard of it before I read the Hunger Games books. I would never name my children Katniss, but I think it’s a pretty cool name.
6. Patch – Patch is from the Hush Hush series and even though it’s not his real name. We know him by Patch for so long that you get use to it. But I think Patch is an awesome name and I just seem to love it.  His real name is pretty epic as well.

7. Dimitri – And again another name from the Vampire Academy Series, Richelle Mead just knows her way with names. I have always liked the name Dimitri but VA just made me love it, so much more.

8. Tobias– Tobias is a Characters name in Divergent and even though it is very unusual I just seem to love it, and I have no idea. And you know what I would not mind naming my son Tobias as well.
Sea of Monsters
9. Annabeth – Is from the well Know Percy Jackson and the OlympiansSeries as well as the Heroes of Olympus series. I adore this name, for a while I wished my name was Athena, whom is Annabeth’s mother in the series, but know I wish it was Annabeth, as it’s a bit more modern.

10.  Xavier – I think there is a few Xaiver’s around now in books, but the one I picked from was Halo.I love this name, I think maybe because of the unusual spelling but it’s just an awesome name and in the last few years it has become pretty popular.

So here is my Top Ten, I do love so many other names that it’s hard to count, but I wrapped it up to 10. What do you think of my list? Any name’s similar that we both have on our list?

Top Ten Books I Was Forced to Read

Oct 15, 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that one of the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All Bloogers are then welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Books I Was Forced to Read (either by teachers, friends, other bloggers, reviews)

So alot of these books were what I had to read for school, I had no other choice but to read them. I actually could not get to 10 as I have not really been forced to read anything expect for school required book. These are in no particular order;

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin: I was forced to read Pride and Prejudice this year, for my English Literature class and I hate to say this but I just don’t like it. I find that I cannot connect with Classical book so it’s hard for me to enjoy it and I also dislike Mr Darcy *hides away in a corner*

2. Othello by William Shakespeare: This again is what I had to read this year for my English Literature Class. I just did not like this as it was hard to understand as it is in modern English

3. MacBeth by William Shakespeare: I was assigned to readthis last year for English and for a 15 year this is hard to read. To say I didn’t like it would be an understatement. As said before as it was not in modern English it was hard for me to grasp.
4. Into White Silence by Anthony Eaton :  I had to read this last year for English and I have no idea why they picked this book. It is soooo boring and I think I read about 5 chapters and stopped I could not read anymore. Still managed to get an A+ for my Essay on it but.

5. Frankenstein by Mary Shelly (adapted byPhillip Pullman): I actually quite enjoyed this book. It  was understandable. I actually liked reading it and I think that’s because I like the gothic, dark kind of novels.

6. Tomorrow when the War began by John Marsden:So This I read 2 years ago the same year the movie come out. I wanted to read it before I watched the movie because the trailer looked awesome and guess what it was on my book list. I really enjoyed this book and went on to read the rest of the series.

7. The Gathering by Isobelle Carmody: I had to read this when I was in year 8 in high school, that was about 3 /4 years ago. I just did not enjoy it. I found it very wired and boring.

So these are the only book I was able to come up with. As I said before I only really read book I want to read, as these book were required by school I had to read them.
What do you think about my list?
What is on your list?

Top Ten Book Turn-Offs

Oct 1, 2013
toptentuesday
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that one of the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All Bloogers are then welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Book Turn-Offs you know when..you are reading and then something happens to completely turn you off — cheating, absent parents, multiple POVS etc.
This is my Top Ten Book Turn-Offs that I have encountered of if I do encounter while reading a book it turns me off from the book. Again like I say every week, these are in no particular order.
1.Instant Love – Arggg I just get so angry and frustrated when the main characters just met and they are saying ‘I love you’ this does not happen in real like you don’t just met someone and became in love, it takes time, to form a relationship.

2.Love triangles – I dislike love triangles with a passion, they get me so angry and aggravated, again it is very unrealistic yes sometimes things like this happens but not in every damn YA novel. I just feel that a romance can feel more real when it is between two people not when two guys are fighting are fighting over the one girl and she has feelings for both. Just gets me adfakjfskjhdsdh words that I cannot say. They don’t put me off the book fully but they do make me dislike it a little less.
3.When the main character is up themselves – I hate with a passion when out main characters thinks so highly of themselves and they just think they are the best in the world, the most gorgeous. It makes me angry reading it especially when it is in their in perspective. I dislike people in real life whom are like this, and I just cannot connect to them at all.
4.Excessive swearing – I can handle swearing but when it is every second word, I just cannot read it. It makes me cringe and flinch. You cannot have a normal conversation when all there is, is swearing

5.Cheating – I cannot stand when someone in a relationship cheats on their partner; it just angers me so much to the bone.  I just want to scream and rip the book apart, especially when they get back together as the one that cheat say ‘ it was an accident, I didn’t mean it, you know I love you’ etc

6.Multiple Point of Views – I can handle up to 2 different POV but when there is more I just get confused and the story just doesn’t flow right, I end up reading the book multiple times each in a different person’s perceptive, so I can actually understand what is going on.
7. Bitchy Best friend- Gosh when the Best Friend just complains, bitches about everything. They think they are the best in the world, they only think about themselves and when our main characters has a problem they only think about themselves

8. Controlling Partner  – When the other half of a relationship mainly the male is controlling, tells the other what to do, what not to do. Even if it’s not in a ‘controlling voice.’ It just wants me to scream at partner and tell them to get out of that bloody relationship.
9. Females that always rely on the knight in shining armor – I just cannot stand when the female main character just stands back and wait for someone to save her. It’s like no, stand up for your self.
 10. Over Explaining – I dislike and get turn-off when an authors takes pages to explain what something looks like, who someone is. Yes you do need to explain in detail but it does not take pages and pages of it. It becomes boring and I forget what I am reading.
So these are my Top Ten, do you agree with any of these? What are some of your Turn-Off’s?

Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Vict Yeah, this is what I wanted. I really enjoyed Victoria Wilder’s Bourbon Boys series, and as soon as I heard she was writing a new series, around whiskey and women. Well, hell year. It took me a little bit to get into the book, but after a few chapters, I was hooked.

Wyn is hiding, hiding from everyone, even when she is there. She is hiding behind so much, and damn, I don’t blame her. We don’t know everything from the start, but we start piecing things together, and my heart broke. And I was terrified for her. But she is a Crowne woman, and that means something.

We’ve met Julian before, and while he intrigued me before, I am invested now. He is charming, secretive in the best way and will do anything at this point for Wyn. But he is also lost, and somehow he finds his way to Rumour and back into Wyn’s life.

The romance is hot and steamy and everything that you want. The tension and chemistry in this one is high. Neither Wyn nor Julian wants to really give in or give up on one another, but a lot is standing in their way, honestly, mainly themselves. I just sat there giggling half the time because they are swoon-worthy.

I would say this is the darkest Victoria Wilder book I’ve read, so double-check those trigger warnings before jumping in because there is a lot that happens. And I don’t think it’s going to die down any time soon because these Crowne women are badass, and I know things are only just getting started.

Overall, Rumors & Whiskey is hot and sexual. The tension is dripping off the page, and then you are thrown into the terror and horrors of Rumour. You don’t know what is going to happen next, you don’t know who to trust, and there are so many more secrets that have yet to be revealed. I know I am ready for more. Are you?

Thank you to @atriabooksaus for an earc of Rumors & Whiskey 🥃. I’m in love.

March was a better reading month than February for March was a better reading month than February for me, and while I’m still stuck in my heated rivalry fanfiction era I managed to scrap out of it a little this month.

I reread four books from the sweet omegaverse series and honestly had the best time. I also read two of my most anticipated reads of the year and had a blast. Sadly I did also have my first dnf of the year.

What did you read this March? Any standouts? What are you looking forward to reading in April? Let’s chat!
