Lockdown Has Gotten To Me | October Book Haul

Posted by angelreads Book Hauls No Comments

I’ve done pretty good book-buying wise this whole year, but the last two months in lockdown have finally gotten to me. This means I bought a lot of books this October.  It’s not really my fault – it is. I’ve been buying a lot of indie romances from – Off The Book Pages since there has been a lot of new books added to it. As well as some new releases and books that have been on my tbr for some time.

It’s a strange mix of books here. I have read quite a few of them already, but I finally got around to getting physical copies. Because this is going to be a pretty decent haul, let’s get right into it. As always these are no order. Also Some of these books I bought and some I received for review.

King of Battle & Blood (Adrian X Isolde #1) by Scarlett St. Clair  – Review Copy | Bad Dream: A Dark Dream Prologue Novella by Giana Darling | The Legacy (Off-Campus #5) by Elle Kennedy | Portrait of a Scotsman (A League of Extraordinary Women #3) by Evie Dunmore.

Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling – Review Copy| Holy Union (Lightbringer Trilogy #2) by A.J. Ryder – Review Copy | Duet (The LeBlanc Family #3) by Bella Scott – Review Copy | The Atlas Six (The Atlas #1) by Olivie Blake.

Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) by Penelope Douglas | Credence by Penelope Douglas | Fortune Favors the Cruel (Dark Maji #1) by Kel Carpenter. | Blessed be the Wicked (Dark Maji #2) by Kel Carpenter.

Dark Horse (A Demon’s Guide to the Afterlife #1) by Kel Carpenter and Aurelia Jane | Tin (Faeries of Oz #1) by Candace Robinson and Amber R. Duell. | Crow (Faeries of Oz #2) by Candace Robinson and Amber R. Duell. | Ozma (Faeries of Oz #3) by Candace Robinson and Amber R. Duell

Timber (Hades #4) by Tate James. | Delinquent (Academy of Misfits #1) by Bea Paige | Reject (Academy of Misfits #2) by Bea Paige | Family (Academy of Misfits #3) by Bea Paige.

Freestyle (Academy of Stardom #1) by Bea Paige. | Lyrical (Academy of Stardom #2) by Bea Paige | Breakers (Academy of Stardom #3) by Bea Paige. | Finale (Academy of Stardom #4) by Bea Paige.

Steps (Finding Their Muse #1) by Bea Paige | Strokes (Finding Their Muse #2) by Bea Paige | Strings (Finding Their Muse #3) by Bea Paige. | Symphony (Finding Their Muse #4) by Bea Paige.

And there we go. Those are the books that I received and purchased in October. I tried not to get books, but it kinda just happened. Anyway, what did you get in October? So were there any books that we go the same? Let’s Chat!

Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling

Pages: 300
Publish date: October 26th 2021
Publisher: Dangerous Press
ASIN: B098TPMV86
Purchase: Amazon UK – Amazon US – Amazon AU

He arrives all dressed in black. Diamond cufflinks. A watch on his tanned wrist that cost more than we would ever see in a lifetime of work. He carries a single red rose for my mother. Months later, Tiernan Morelli lays red roses on my mother’s grave. That same day, he tells me that he is my new guardian. I should have known from the very start that he had more in common with the thorns than the rose. Now I know the truth: I’m a pawn in his dangerous game of revenge. I was too young and naive. Now it’s too late to save myself from his clutches. Now I belong to him.

Dangerous Temptation:

I received an earc of Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling from Valentine PR & Literary Management in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

Trigger and content warnings for Dangerous Temptation include; death of parents, criminal activities, gun violence, age gap, taboo romance, child abuse off the page and more.

This book wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. And that isn’t a bad thing. I knew what I was going into, but I was also surprised by it.  I read the novella that gives us an insight into both Tiernan Morelli and Bianca Belcante – do you haven’t read Bad Dreams before picking Dangerous Temptation up, I highly recommend it. It’s a few chapters if that.

Dangerous Temptation follows Bianca Belcante the bastard child and member of the Constantine family. After the death of her mother, she and her brother have been taken in by Tiernan Morelli. Who has not only been cast aside by his family but is the black sheep. But he still does their bidding.

There is major tension between Bianca and Tiernan from the start, like off the page. It’s all times of tension from hate to lust, to even disgust. It’s an interesting combo and I really did enjoy it. It wasn’t what I was expecting from these two, I actually don’t know what I was expecting.

Bianca is kinda that typical innocent protagonist, but she had this spark about her that I loved. She didn’t care about what Tiernan had to say. She did what she wanted to do. What she believed in. But Tiernan also intrigued her a lot. And she couldn’t help but get want to get to know him. I absolutely adore how much she cared and looked after her brother. She had a shit home life, for the most part. Their mother didn’t care too much about them. Right from the start, the reader is able to see how much she cares for him.

Tiernan is rough around the edges and more. I wish we got to know him a little more, but I felt that even during his chapters, we still don’t know the real him. Dangerous Temptation I felt gave us these little hints here and there and everything is going to be explore much more in book two. Tiernan is dark and twisty and I wanted to know more about him as the book went on.

The romance was very up and down for me throughout Dangerous Temptation. I wanted to love it, but I just couldn’t. But I also feel that it wasn’t the main focus of the book. Yes, we see the tension between Bianca and Tiernan, but we don’t get to see them really know each other. There are some fantastic scenes here and that, that was brilliant and I loved seeing them both break down. But I was left hanging for more. I’m intrigued to see what happens between the two in the next book.

This duet isn’t going to be for everyone. I’m just going to put it out there. As I mentioned before there are a lot of trigger warnings and it does include a taboo romance. So please be aware of this before you jump in. I think it’s about a 13 year age gap, which is pretty decent. And as I said because of this Dangerous Temptation won’t be for everyone.

If you didn’t know already, I love Giana’s Fallen Men Series, you can check out my review for the series here, as well as my review of Inked in Lies and Dead Man Walking. So I was really excited to try something new from Giana. While I didn’t love this one, I still enjoyed it.

In saying this, I did feel that it fell a little flat at times. While there are things going on throughout the book, I also felt that not much happened after the last few chapters, and while the cliffhanger is intense. I wanted a little more during the book. I also felt that we didn’t get to know more about Bianca’s daily life. It would have been great to see more of her interactions at school and with her new friends. I liked that we got these awesome interactions when Bianca was at home with her brother and Tiernan’s men. But I wanted a little more here.

Dangerous Temptation is set in the same world as the Cinderella series by k Webster, Lessons in Sin by Pam Godwin and more. You can check out the whole world here. I haven’t read any other books in the world and while I wasn’t confused by the family feud, I am intrigued and might end up and reading some of the other books.

Overall, Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling really did catch my eye. It’s pushed me a little out of my comfort zone and I didn’t hate it. I’m intrigued to see what is going to happen next. The ending was a major cliffhanger and that makes me both nervous and excited. Dangerous Temptation will not be for everyone and that is absolutely okay, but if you like things a little on the dark side and taboo, then this book is for you.

And there we go. Have you checked out Dangerous Temptation by Giana Darling yet? What did you think of it? Are you planning on picking it up? What are some of your favourite dark and taboo romances? Let’s Chat.

Also don’t forget to check out my interview with Giana that I did last year. I had a great time and it was fantastic getting to know Giana more. If you don’t follow me on social media you can now, you can check me out on Twitter, Instagram and Tiktok.

Paranormal/Fantasy Romance Books For October | TTT

Posted by angelreads Features, Top Ten Tuesday 8 Comments

This week it’s time for a Halloween Freebie. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

It’s always hard for me to do Halloween posts for many different reasons. But the one that stands out the most is, I don’t like scary books or even movies. They are just not for me. But I do like my paranormal and fantasy romances. So I thought there is no better time to recommend some of my favourite paranormal/fantasy romances you can read in October. While these aren’t ‘scary’ they include creatures and themes that I think are perfect for the spooky season.

So let’s get right into it. These recommendations go from a little bit spicy, to hot and spicy. So there is something for everyone. Like always these are in no order.

Rejected (Shadow Beast Shifters #1) by Jaymin Eve | Queen Takes Knights (Their Vampire Queen #1) by Joely Sue Burkhart | Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by Laura Thalassa | Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh

Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1) by J.R. Ward | Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) by Richelle Mead | From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout | A Touch of Darkness (Hades & Persephone #1) by Scarlett St. Clair

The Magic of Discovery (Emerald Lakes #1) by Britt Andrews | Neon Gods (Dark Olympus #1) by Katee Robert

And there we go. Those are some of the paranormal/fantasy romances that I think are perfect for October. Like I said none of these are scary, but paranormal romance always does the trick.

Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Are you planning on reading them? What are some of the books that you would add to your list? So, let’s Chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
