Should I Unhaul These Books?

Should I Unhaul These Books?

Posted by angelreads Discussions 1 Comment

I have a lot of unread books. I’ve been collecting and buying books regularly for the last 10+ years. This means I have a lot of books from some time ago. I don’t only buy books from bookstores, but second-hand shops as well. I might have been interested in them at the time of purchase but now it’s been a couple of years. So today I thought I would share some of the books that I’m unsure about. The books I’m not sure if I want to read, the books I might unhaul.

And I need your help. I need you to help me decide if I should keep the books and give them or go. Or if I should unhaul them. There is a mix of everything here and I cannot wait to hear what you think of them. Like always these are in no order.

The Fallen and Leviathan (The Fallen #1) by Thomas E. Sniegoski: I got the whole series from a second-hand shop a number of years ago. It sounds like my type of book, but I have just never picked it up. I haven’t read an Angel book in a while, but I feel I could fall back into this world. What do you think?

Captive Prince (Captive Prince #1) by C.S. Pacat: I won the whole series a few years ago. But I’ve been very hesitant to pick it up. I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about these books and I just don’t know what to do. I don’t read a lot of adult/romance fantasy books, so it’s never really been high on my list. Was this a hit for you?

The Great Unknowable End by Kathryn Ormsbee: This is another one that I feel has been a hit or miss with some people. It sounds fantastic and strange, but also wonderful. But I also don’t read a lot of magical realism and I think that is one of the reasons why I’ve been so hesitant to pick it up. What are your thoughts on this one?

Wolf by Wolf (Wolf by Wolf #1) by Ryan Graudin: I got this one when it first came out as everyone was reading it, but I’m not sure why I did. It sounds interesting, yes. And it does sound like something I might enjoy. But I have never thought about it since. Did you ever read this one? What did you think?

Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu: I received an unsolicited review copy of this one back when it was published. It wasn’t very high on books on my tbr. It just doesn’t sound like my type of book. I don’t read too much contemporary, especially contemporary young adult. But I’ve also heard good things about this. What do you think?

Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire #1) by Natasha Ngan: I’ve become very picky with the YA I’ve been reading recently. I did pick this one up when a lot of what I was reading was YA fantasy, but now my reading habits have changed. It sounds interesting, but I’ve also heard up and down things about it. From those who have read this one, what are your thoughts?

Rebel of the Sands (Rebel of the Sands #1) by Alwyn Hamilton: Much like Girls of Paper and Fire, I got this when I was really reading and love YA fantasy. I think out of the two this is the one I’m least interested in. But that cover just pulls me in. I would love to hear some of your thoughts about this one and if I should give it a go.

Pivot Point (Pivot Point #1) by Kasie West: When I first started to read YA contemporary Kasie West was one of my go-to authors – still is really. Then I picked up her other books, but never had the chance to read them. This one still sounds interesting to me, but I feel that it might not be what I’m looking for. Have any of you read this one? What did you think?

And there we go. Those are some of the books that I’m thinking about unhauling. Have you read any of them? What did you think of them? Should I pick them up? Let’s Chat!

Get To Know the Romance Reader | Book Tag

Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

By now, you all know how much I love reading romance books, so when Ely tagged me in this, I knew I had to do it. The ‘Get To Know the Romance Reader’ tag was created by Bree Hill over at Falling for Romance, you can check out the original post now. I haven’t done many romance tags before and I thought it would be lots of fun. Now let’s get into it.

1. What is your romance origin story? (How you came to read your first romance novel):  My romance journey is a pretty easy one. Most of what I read as a teen was fantasy and supernature, but then at 15/16ish I started to read contemporary – very slowly. And then as the time went on I wanted a little more and started to read New Adult – till eventually, I started to read romance. It was a slow change, but as soon as I started to read romance. And I never stopped.

2. If you could be the heroine in a romance novel, who would be the author and what’s one trope you’d insist be in the story? Ohh, this is such a good question there could be so many that I would pick. But I think Rebecca Yarros would be incredible at writing my story. I might have to go through a bit of pain, but the love that I would feel. I’ve given nearly every one of Rebecca’s books 4 or 5 stars, so I’m ready.

3. What is a romance you’ve read this year, that you want more people to read? Most of what I’ve read this year has been romance, so it’s a little hard to pick one. But If you haven’t read the Bergman Brothers series by Chloe Liese, then you need to get on it. I read Ever After Always earlier this year and adored it. I cannot wait till the rest of the series comes out.

4. What is your favourite romance subgenre? What subgenre have you not read much from? Ohh this is such a good question, but also such a hard one for me to answer. I actually prefer subgenre’s of romance, I rarely read straight contemporary romance. So anything from Sports and MC romances, to military and romance suspense. And then I can’t forget historical romance.

5. Who is one of your auto-buy romance authors? Hmm. Well, I would say Rebecca Yarros, but I feel like I should also talk about Sabrina Jeffries. I’ve read quite a number of books from her now and I have loved nearly everyone. I’m also loving her newest series – which I think is fantastic.

6. How do you typically find romance recommendations?  Everywhere! From Twitter and Instagram and youtube and bloggers, to now Tiktok. I love getting recommendations from anyone, but I love them even more if it’s a romance recommendation. But I think I get most of my recommendations from blogging friends.

7. What is an upcoming romance release you’re excited about? So many! But I can’t wait for Sarah MacLean’s Bombshell to come out. As well as Evie Dumore’s Portrait of a Scotsman. Other one’s I’m excited about are; The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood, Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune and Neon Gods (Dark Olympus #1) by Katee Robert.

8. What is one misconception about romance you would like to lay to rest? I could go on for hours and hours about this. But just the general negative connotation that romance has. That it’s just ‘sex.’ That is not good writing. Nothing happens. It’s all smut. That it’s not worth anything. I did a whole series late last year and this year, I interviewed romance authors to try and break down a little of the misconceptions of romance. You can check out the series here.

9. Who is the most recent romance reading content creator you came across that you’d like to shout out? I sadly haven’t had much time to find new romance content creators recently. But I thought I would share one of my favourites. Nick from The Infinite Limits Of Love has been one of my favourites for a very long time. She was one of the romance bloggers and romances bloggers that I came across. If you don’t follow Nick already get on it.

10. If someone had never read a romance before and asked you to recommend the first 3 romances that come to mind as places to start, what would those recommendations be? This is such a hard question. So I went with four! But I tried to pick four different books from different genres that I would recommend if someone came into my store. The books that I would pick are Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1) by Rebecca Yarros, The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune, Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers #1) by Lisa Kleypas and Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh

I had a lot of fun with this post and sharing all the things I love about romance. I tag anyone that wants to do it. Let me know when you do!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
