My Current Favourite Authors | TTT

Posted by angelreads Features, Top Ten Tuesday 10 Comments

This week I’m sharing my current favourite authors. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I did change this week’s topic just a little because I thought this would be more fun – and I have an intense migraine. But it was originally ‘Questions I Would Ask My Favourite Authors’.
I read a lot differently now than I did even 3 or 4 years ago. So, I thought it was time to share some of my current favourite authors. One of the things that I love is the range books and genre my favourite authors write. Anyway, let’s get into it.

Cassandra Clare: I don’t think there is any doubt in any of your minds that Cassie was going to make it to my list. Cassandra Clare has been one of my favourite authors for quite some time now and I don’t think it will change any time soon. I’ve just got my youngest sister reading her books now and we have some fantastic chats with our mum about it. I just love the world, the characters and everything in between.

Lisa Kleypas: This is another one that I don’t think you should be surprised with. I’ve read so many of her books now and I’ve pretty much loved nearly all of them. Her characters are just fantastic, and I love the way that she writes. One of my favourite things though is the way that she connects not only characters, but series.

Rebecca Yarros: I’ve been reading Rebecca Yarros for some time now and love every book that I’ve read. I’ve read nearly all her books now and they have all been 4 stars or above. Yarros knows how to write fantastic characters that have such good character arcs. I have also cried in nearly everyone that I have read. She just knows how to tear me apart – and every time I fail.

Rick Riordan: The only male author on this list, but also no surprise. I adore Rick Riordan. I love what he does, what he writes and everything else in between. His characters are brilliant and relatable. He writes plots that are entertaining, and I won’t stop reading the things that he writes.

Ellie Marney: Ellie has to be my favourite Australian authors. I’ve read nearly all her books now and loved then all. If you haven’t picked up an Ellie Marney book yet and you enjoy crime and thrillers especially YA ones – then do.

Beverly Jenkins: This is a new author to my list, but I had to add her because I’ve loved everything that I have read. Her historical romances are entertaining, full of banter and just what I always need. I can’t wait to read even more of her books. If you love reading historical romances and want something a little different – this is a good place to start.

And those are some of my current favourite authors. Do we share any that are the same? Who are yours? Let’s Chat!

Books I Want To Read Soon

Posted by angelreads TBR 3 Comments

Today I thought I would share the books that I would like to read soon. These are the books that are next of tbr pile. The ones that I want to pick up next. I thought this would be a fun way to share a little on what I’m planning to read, but also get you all to help me pick some of my next reads.

Lately, I’ve been struggling with what to pick up next. I just don’t know what I feel like, so if you could help me pick something that I could read soon that would be fantastic. Anyway, here we go.

Brazen and the Beast (The Bareknuckle Bastards #2) by Sarah MacLean: I read the first book in this series a little while ago and I want to continue reading this series for sure. I’m so intrigued to see where this all goes. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this series as a whole and I’m excited to continue.

In the Prince’s Bed (Royal Brotherhood #1) by Sabrina Jeffries: A few months ago I read a Sabrina Jeffries series and fell in love. So, of course, I had to get another one. This series sounds so interesting and I’m excited to go in and more some more from an author that has caught my eye.

The Midnight Lie (The Midnight Lie #1) by Marie Rutkoski: I bought this one a few months ago now and I need to get onto reading. I’ve loved reading Marie Rutkoski before and this one sounds so interesting. I’ve heard good things about it already and it sounds like it’s exactly what I love. I also haven’t picked up a fantasy in a little bit.

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds: I haven’t picked this one up yet as I knew I need to be in the right space to do it. I think I’m in that spot now and can’t wait to start it soon. It sounds interesting and intriguing and I can’t wait to read more poetry.

With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo: This is another one that I’ve had for a little while. When I read The Poet X I cried like a baby and I need to be ready for that again. I like that this one is a little different but I love that as well. Hopefully, I can get to this one in the coming month.

Only When It’s Us (Bergman Brothers #1) by Chloe Liese: I don’t know too much about this week. The second book in this series caught my eye first and then I read the synopsis of this one and knew I needed to jump on it. I’m excited to pick this one up soon. It just sounds like an awesome sports romance.

And that is it for today’s post! What are some of the books that you want to get to soon? Have you read any of the books on my list? What do you suggest I pick up next? Let’s Chat!

Ely Recommends You Books Based On Percy Pics

Posted by angelreads Guest Post, Recommendations No Comments

Hi, everyone! It’s me, Ely from Earl Grey Books, back with my monthly post! Today I’m bringing you probably the most adorable post I’ve ever written, and I’ll be recommending you books based on photos of Percy. Percy is my cat, and he is the cutest bean who has ever lived. So let’s get into it.

For when you’re feeling studious

I love a good non-fiction book, so that’s what we’re going to go with here. One of my all-time favourites is Women, Race and Class by Angela Y. Davis, so I highly recommend that. Davis is an incredible writer, speaker and activist, and while this book is a little older, sadly, a lot of it is still relevant today. If you consider yourself a feminist, this is an absolute must-read.

For when you want to feel cozy

I can’t look past Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett for this one. I just read this the other week (on Angel’s recommendation), and I completely adored it. It’s a sweet contemporary YA romance, but it has it’s more serious moments too. There’s also a bit of a mystery element to it which is always a lot of fun.

For when you’re feeling adventurous

Nothing is more perfect for this Percy pic than the Narroway trilogy by Rhiannon Williams. This is a middle-grade fantasy filled with adventure, friends and magical creatures. It’s one of my favourite series because it’s amazing, and honestly, all the characters are just so precious.

Which Percy are you today? Do you have any recommendations based on these photos?

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
