Books on My 2020 Winter TBR

Posted by angelreads Features, Top Ten Tuesday 8 Comments

This week I’m sharing books the books what I want to read this winter, with my 2020 winter tbr. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

It’s started to get much colder where I live now and it’s the perfect weather to wrap myself up in my bed and just read. So today I’m sharing books that I want to get through this winter. From books that I’ve had a while to books that I’ve just picked up. Let’s hope that I can read these books soon.

Through the Storm (The Le Veq Family #1) by Beverly Jenkins: I just read my first Beverly Jenkins last week and loved it, and I really want to read more about the family. So I’m hoping to read at least one of the books that centre around the Le Veq family. And I’m excited about that. My library has them all on ebook, so I have them waiting for me.

Fresh Ink: An Anthology edited by Lamar Giles: I bought this one a couple of months ago and I’m slowly making my way through another anthology, but I hope to get to this one as well before the end of winter. I have a lot of trouble finishing an anthology for some reason, but I want to read this one for sure.

Check, Please!, Book 2: Sticks & Scones by Ngozi Ukazu: I’m so excited to pick this one up. I loved the first volume and this one seems like it’s going to be fantastic. I will probably pick this one up really soon. Especially with pride month.

The How and the Why by Cynthia Hand: I got this one just after Christmas last year and I still haven’t had the chance to pick it up. I’ve really enjoyed reading Cynthia Hand in the past and I’m really excited to read this one. I even got a hardcover of it – which I never do, but I didn’t want to wait for the paperback.

Prince Charming (Royals #1) by Rachel Hawkins: This is one of the books that was chosen as part of the best friend picks my TBR, but I also cannot wait to read it. I’ve been slowly making my way through the list and I’m really excited about this one. It sounds exactly what I love and I cannot wait to devour it.

Heartstopper: Volume One (Heartstopper #1) by Alice Oseman: This is another one that I got a little while ago. But I have the first two volumes and I need to get on reading it. It sounds like it’s right up my alley. So many people that I know love it, so I’m really excited about that as well.

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo: I have spoken about this a couple of times now and I’m so excited about this one. It’s yet to come in at work, but I as soon as it does I will be reading it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. And that makes me really intrigued.

Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson: I’m hoping that this one comes this week into work so I can finally read it. This one has been on my tbr for some time now and I finally ordered it in at work so I can read it. Again I’ve heard such amazing things about Tiffany D. Jackson, especially about this one.

A Duke, the Lady, and a Baby by Vanessa Riley: I’m super excited to pick this one up. It features disability which is rare in historical fiction. It also sounds super interesting and it caught my eye as soon as I read the synopsis. I’m actually hoping to get to this one this week sometime.

You Were Made For Me by Jenna Guillaume: I really enjoyed Jenna’s debut book last year and I’m really excited about this one. It sounds so good. And fun and full of romance and I can’t wait. The romance was one of my favourite parts of What I Like About Me, so I’m really excited to see what she does with it in this one.

And that is it for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! What do you hope to read this winter or summer? Do we have anything that is the same? Let’s Chat!

More Kindle Unlimited Books On My TBR

Posted by angelreads TBR 2 Comments

A few weeks ago I shared books that I have on my Kindle Unlimted as well as some of my recent KU reads. And my kindle unlimited is always changing. I read through these books quite fast and there have been some changes since I last made this type of post. I haven’t read all the books that I had on my last list, but there have been some changes.

So today I’m sharing the recent books I’ve added to my Kindle Unlimited TBR. It’s not the full 10 books here as like I said some haven’t changed. But here are some the recent ones I can’t wait to read. Like always these are in no order.

Ruthless Princess (Mafia Royals #1) by Rachel Van Dyken: This is either going to be a hit or miss for me. I’ve read a Rachel Van Dyken book before and didn’t love it. But I’ve been hearing some great things about this one recently. I’ve also been in a dark romance kind of mood so I think I might like it, but we never know.

Conquest (Dragon Bones, #1) by Celeste Harte: I honestly don’t know too much about this one, but I read the synopsis and it caught my attention. I haven’t read a fantasy romance in a while and this one sounds really interesting. And it has some pretty good reviews. It just sounds so fascinating and I cannot wait to read it.

Under Locke by Mariana Zapata: I’ve been slowly making my way through Zapata’s books and this is the next one that caught my eye. I’m interested in this one. But I also know that I’m in for a ride because it’s nearly 500 pages and damn that is long. But I think that this one sounds more like something that I would enjoy. This one has intrigued me to say the less.

Demetri (The Volkov Empire #1) by Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez: I‘ve been slowly making my way through the world of these authors and I’ve been enjoying it. This book I have been hesitant about, but I’m also really interested in it. The second book just came out so I did want to get to it soon. It does sound more intense than the other books in this series though so that is going to be interesting.

Enthralled (The Enslaved Duet #1) by Giana Darling: Okay I’m not too sure about this one. I finished a Giana Darling series last month and loved it. But this is much darker than I usually read, so I am hesitant to read. But I do want to try it.

I also have The Forbidden Man by Karina Halle, Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by Laura Thalassa and Hero (Morgan Brothers #1) by Lauren Rowe. As well as Fire in His Blood (Fireblood Dragon #1) by Ruby Dixon and Love Under Quarantine by Kylie Scott and Audrey Carlan on my TBR which I spoke about in my last post.

And that is it for this post. Do you use Kindle Unlimited? What are some of your favourite books that you have read from there? Have you read anything from this list? Let’s Chat!

Mid-Year Book Freakout 2020 | Book Tag

Posted by angelreads Book Tag 3 Comments

I haven’t done a book tag in a while and I thought it was time to do one. And just in time for the mid-year book freakout tag. This tag was created by Ely and Chami. Most of the time this tag is more seen on youtube, but I thought I would bring it over here and share my year in books so far.

As from today, I’ve read 152 books. That is a lot for me for this time of year. I read just under 200 last year and I imagine that I’m going to go over that this year. I’ve read a mix of books this year, but most of them have been romance. And I don’t think that will change too much. Anyway, let’s get into this.

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2020

I can’t pick just one book here, but I do have a top three. This is How We Change the Ending by Vikki Wakefield, The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune and Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare. I loved every one of these. They are just fantastic. This is How We Change The Ending and The House in the Cerulean Sea are stand-alone – so if you don’t like series, then pick these ones up.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020

Again there are two books that I had to pick for this one. Chasing Cassandra (The Ravenels #6) by Lisa Kleypas was such a fantastic final book. I loved the romance in this one so much, it just made me smile so much. And After the Fall (The Fallen Men #4) by Giana Darling. This book was so intense, holy crap. So much happened in this one and gosh it ruined me, but it was also fantastic.

3. New release you haven’t read yet but want to

So many! But I still need to read Check, Please!, Book 2: Sticks & Scones by Ngozi Ukazu, I have my copy and I just haven’t picked it up yet. But I think I will get to it this month. I’m also still waiting for my copy of Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. I’ve only heard amazing things about it so far, and I want my copy now.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year:

I’m so excited for Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett, this was supposed to be mid-year but it got pushed back to November and I can’t wait! I love Jenn Bennett and this one sounds like it’s exactly my type of book. I also cannot wait for Blood & Honey (Serpent & Dove #2) by Shelby Mahurin. Serpent & Dove was one of my favourite books last year and I cannot wait to get back into this world.

5. Biggest disappointment

This has to be Fix Her Up (Hot & Hammered #1) by Tessa Bailey. I was so angry and disappointed with this book I can’t even explain. You can read more about my thoughts in a discussion I had with Ely. But I was just so upset with a lot of this book.

6. Biggest surprise

The books for this up are some of my recent reads. I just finished Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes and it was fantastic! I’m so angry that it took me so long to pick this one up. But thanks to my Best Friends picks my TBR challenge I’m doing. I had to. And then I also have to mention Rebel (Women Who Dare #1) by Beverly Jenkins. I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did. You can check out my review now!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

This has to be Nic Stone. I got Dear Martin last year when I was in the US, and only picked it up recently, and gosh it was fantastic. It was beautifully written and I cannot wait to read more from Nic. I’m excited for Dear Justyce which is coming out in September.

8. Newest fictional crush.

This one is hard, come on. I love falling in love with characters in books. But I love Teddy Taualai from Making Friends with Alice Dyson by Poppy Nwosu, Jordy from Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes and Camden Daniels from Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros. They are all so different but I love them all so much.

9. Newest favourite character.

Ohh another hard one for me. But all the main characters from Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare. I think they might be some of my favourite group of characters from Clare. I just love them all so much. I love their banter and everything else. I cannot wait to see more of them in the coming books.

10. Books that made you cry.

I cry at everything people! I just do. I’m a mess all the time. But the ones that ruined me are How It Feels to Float by Helena Fox, Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros and Dear Martin by Nic Stone. All these books made me cry in different ways. But they all got me good.

11. A Book that made you happy.

While I do cry a lot in books, there are so many that just make me so happy reading them. So far this year The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune has taken the cake. I smiled so much through this book. If I was reading this in public, people would have thought I was strange. But this book gave me so much feels, you can check out my full review and see why.

12. The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

I brought this beautiful box set from the 10th anniversary of Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan. I love this box set so much! It’s just so stunning. And they look so nice together as well!

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

All of them? I have so many books that I want to read, but by the end of the year, I want to read The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil #1) by Soman Chainani – Because my little sister has warned me that my books will start to disappear. I also want to read Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds, I’m waiting for my copy to come into work, but I want to read this one, as well as The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn

14. Favourite Book Community Member

There are so many people that I can mention here, so many. But I will try and keep it smallest. Firstly if you don’t follow Ely, my best friend. The person that gets me through most days. And she is also on booktube! Ashley from Bookish Realm is an gem! If you don’t follow Jean Bookishthought I don’t know what you are doing with your life. She is fantastic. Francina Simone videos are fantastic and so well thought out. They are something to watch. And I have been following Nick from The Infinite Limits Of Love and if you love your romance books so do you.

And that is it for this post! How has your reading been going so far this year? What have been your favourites? What has disappointed you? Do we share anything that is the same? Let’s chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

He is sunshine, she is moonlight; he is a bright star and she is a moonbeam.

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
