Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read

Posted by angelreads Features, Top Ten Tuesday 3 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone join as you please. This week’s topic is Ten Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read.

Love but won't Re-Read

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake: I adored this book when I read it. It was one of the first ‘horror’ books that I read and I fell in love with the characters and the story. This is the first book in a really interesting duo that was different to anything that I had read before. However, I probably won’t re-read it.

Love but won't Re-Read

The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers: The Vanishing Game is a thrilling, compelling and beautiful piece of work. Kate Kae Myers is an incredible writer that knows how to capture an audience and kept them hanging on to every thread. However, I don’t think I will re-read it. Maybe if I am in the mood for something intense and mysterious, then maybe.

Love but won't Re-Read

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson: Since You’ve Been Gone is a book about self-discovery, growing, and changing. It’s about taking chances and making new friends. It’s simply a fun summer, cuteness overload read. The friendships are beautiful, with a hint of an adorable romance. It will pull a string in anyone’s heart. But this book was a monster, so many pages and did take me a while to read.

Love but won't Re-Read

What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick: This is another one that I really loved, but once again it’s quite a big book for a contemporary novel. I also think that the impact of the book won’t be as intense because it’s a re-read.

Love but won't Re-Read

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black: Like the previous book, I don’t think the impact and the intensity of the book would be as strong the second time around. I adore the world that Holly Black has created in this one, it’s interesting, different and kept me on the edge of my feet. This book is so much fun and I don’t think I would feel the same if I re-read it.

Love but won't Re-Read

These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly: I really enjoyed These Shallow Graves, it was an interesting read and something that I would recommend to historical fiction or crime lovers. These Shallow Graves is a fantastic historical fiction packed with crime solving, romance, heartbreak and tears. And I think it’s for that reason that I won’t re-read the book. When you already know the answer to the crime, why would you want to read?

Love but won't Re-Read

My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier: I think you can see the trend here. If it’s a crime/has mysterious elements I probably won’t re-read it. In saying that, My Sister Rosa is a terrifying, fantastic read that will mess with your mind. My Sister Rosa reminds us that sometimes a smile and looking pretty doesn’t mean that the person is not a psychopath.

This Beats Perfect by Rebecca Denton: I was so surprised with This Beats Perfect, which is why I most likely won’t re-read it. It was fun, addicting and put a smile on my face. It explores the notions of finding yourself, loving what you do and finding those who will stand by you. It’s about family, friendship and those you love. In saying this, I just realised it was a series. So I might need to re-read to get back into the world.

Love but won't Re-Read

Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray:  The characters were interesting, the world intriguing and the plot kept me on the edge of my toes. Defy the Stars explores the notion of family, friendship, believing in yourself and standing up for what you believe in. It explores humanity, intelligence and war. It’s a fun, exciting read and I cannot wait to read more in this series. The only reason why I won’t re-read this is that I struggle with science fiction in the first place.

Books I Loved in March

Posted by angelreads Uncategorized No Comments

March Favourites

I managed to read 17 books last month but a lot of them were re-reads or books that I managed to pick up for free or $0.99 on Amazon. I only managed to read 1 YA last month, I was in a small reading slump and just wanted to read romance.

So today I thought would share some of my favourite books that I read in March this year. It was a big up and down month for me. So there isn’t a big amount of books on this list.

March Favourites

Ride Hard and Ride Rough by Laura Kaye: This was one of the first re-reads of the month for me. But I really enjoyed this series and after reading so pretty bad romance books I needed some that I love. I love the different types of characters and how each female protagonist are different. They all have different qualities that I enjoy reading. Plus they are a motorcycle club that isn’t sticking to a stigma. You can check out my reviews of books 1, 2 and 3.

March Favourites

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton: The only YA book that I read in March and I really enjoyed it. It did take me a long time to get into, but once things started moving I was really enjoying it. The world building was clever and I cannot wait to see where it goes. This series could go in many different directions. I wasn’t a massive fan of the protagonist but like the story, as the novel went on I liked her more. The ‘villain’ kept me on my feet and I had no idea where it was going to go.

March Favourites

Undone By You (Chicago Rebels #2.5) by Kate Meader: I just loved this book so much! Another romance author that has gay protagonists with sports. I loved reading it, I’ve been hanging for it since it was announced in the second book. And I couldn’t put it down once I started. This one is more on the sexy side, but I really enjoyed it otherwise. Plus its Ice Hockey people, you know how I feel about that. I cannot wait for more books in this series.

March Favourites

Love and Games series by Rachel Harris: This was one of the first romance series I read and felt very nostalgic and wanted to do a re-read this March. So glad I did because I loved them! 3 books about 3 siblings from New Orleans. They are such fun. Each sibling is so different from one another, but I like them all. This series is just fun that always puts a smile on my face. There is food, firefighters, and music stars involved.

With the institute under siege by a greater demon, tensions between shadowhunters and warlocks are higher than ever as Alec tries to remain in control of the situation.

Meanwhile, Jace plans a date for Clary and it doesn’t go to plan.

The Power That Be:

After last weeks episode, I knew that we were in for trouble and oh boy did that happen. Episode 2 was intense, kept me on the edge of my seat and made me laugh so much. It was such a great mixture of humour and seriousness.

In this weeks episode, Alec and Magnus visit the new Head Warlock of NY, they run into some trouble. That causes a chain reaction for Shadowhunters and Downworlders alike. While Jace tries to woo Clary with their first official date and things don’t go to plan.

The Power That Be had a real big focus on Magnus and Alec and I loved it! The banter between the two of them just put a smile on my face. Sometimes I did feel that the connection was lost, but they are still trying to find their feet with one another. The audience is also able to see another of Magnus vulnerable sides this week and that was really cool. I really love where the writers are taking Magnus and Alec relationship and I knew there will be struggles in the future so, I am waiting.

One of my favourite scenes this week was when Magnus and Alec broke into ‘someones’ house. You could tell that they both really didn’t know what they were going, but they tag team really well.

The new High Warlock of NY – ahh. What can I say? I hate him and love him at the same time. While they have swayed away from the books in this sense. I think it has really worked here, it’s caused this tension and I am really excited and nervous to see where it goes.

In The Power That Be, we also get to see warlocks powers at their weakest and that was so interesting. And it’s all to do with ley lines. There is something and it causing warlocks powers to wreak havoc.

While Jace is trying to plan a date for Clary. It was adorable, I couldn’t stop myself from laughing so much. He is trying so much, but like always it backfires and well, just made me laugh even more. However, in saying that I still feel a real disconnection between Jace and Clary and that’s really annoying.

In this week episode, we see the first sign of the Simon and what the Seelie Queen did to him. And gosh I am so excited. Again they have changed this from the book, but I am intrigued to see where they are taking this.

One of the things that Shadowhunters does do well is the magic scenes. It doesn’t look too fake, but also doesn’t look like it’s nothing. It’s that nice combination of both. There is one scene with Magnus’ eyes – so good!

I hate addressing this all the time, but I think that I need to. I have to separate the books from the show. They are different, they have changed things that make a huge difference later on. But I understand why and I need to live with that. I can’t keep on having a go at the showrunners and writers about it – it’s done. In saying all this – so much has changed from season 1 and I am really enjoying this season so far. I cannot wait to see where it goes.

And that is it! Have you watched The Power That Be? What did you think of it? Are you excited to see where they take things? Let’s Chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
