Posted by angelreads Features, Top Ten Tuesday 14 Comments

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that members at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All bloggers are then welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Things On My Bookish Bucket List
This week was fun and sad at the same time, I want so many things some that will take years for me to get but hey I will hopefully get them. (These are in no particular order)
1. Attend BEA: Aka BookExpo America, this is pretty much the event that I need to go to NEED. It would be amazing to go to this event, sadly as I live in Australia it’s going to take a while for me to get there.
BEA_logo_starburst2. Grow a ‘successful’ blog: By successful blog, I mean one that I am happy having, one that people love, that I love.
3. Start and finish more series: There is so many series that I want to read ( Shatter Me, The Lunar Chronicles and so many more.) There are also series that I need to finish (Pushing the Limits and more)
4. Work in publishing: It’s my dream job to work in publishing, so it would be amazing to work for a publishing house
5. Meet more authors – I have meet a few authors in the last few years; Samantha Shannon,  Amie Kaufman, Meagan Spooner and a few more. I love meeting authors, there is something about it, being able to met author.

6. Write my own book: I have always loved writing and to be able to write my own novel would be pretty much the most amazing thing I could ever do. I know it’s going to take a while but I hope to get there.
7. Have more singed books: I LOVE signed books. There is something about having signed books by the author that just makes me love the book even more. I pretty much cried when i received my signed The Fault in Our Stars

8. Have a reading room: When I buy my house or even build it, I want a reading room, with bookshelf all along the walls, with comfy coaches and with a window seat.

9. Meet more fellow bloggers: I love meeting bloggers that I talk to online, it’s really amazing meeting people, wired but awesome.

Aka the most amazing day of my life. I am not even kidding it was pretty much the most amazing day

10152440_10152044839407087_998391037_n

My sister and I woke up pretty early for us on a weekend on Saturday morning. We got dressed, had a quick breakfast and were on our way.

Up and getting ready for #VAMovieMeetMelb Excited

— Angel (@angel_reads) March 21, 2014

I was so nervous, excited, and couldn’t wait all at the same time. I talked to so many of these girls on twitter pretty much every day, but I was actually meeting them in real life it was so unreal. We arrived at Jam factory a little early as that is how things worked out.

BjSRM3qCAAALFk_

So we walked down to 7 eleven as my sister wanted a muffin we bought one as it was huge and sat down and ate. After that we made our way to the foyer of the cinema and I was totally nervous but then I saw the lovely and beautiful Jem, she waved us over and I gave her a big hug and all my nervous went away. I then saw the awesome Liz  and also gave her a massive hug. It’s so weird, yes we are different ages and have never met each other but we act like we have known each other for years. We did an exchange I gave them my donations, which is one of my bags from my Etsy Store and they gave us awesome goodies bags.

People started arriving and finally I saw Millicent. If you didn’t know already she is the lovely lady who designed my blog and helps me pretty much every day and I wanted to jump on her but I would have probably knocked her down haha. Then Bam! Lu was standing there. She pretty much come out of nowhere.

We talked for a while and chatted while everyone arrived, which ended up turning into a crazy-fest with Lu, Millicent and Tracy. Especially when Nic Wheeler arrived. Nic who plays Adrian Ivashkov in the Bloodlines book trailers. Lu was so excited that she ended up on the floor.

VAMMM-Lu

Nic welcomed us and handed out those prizes to the people that won Door Prizes which I was lucky enough to win one. Which was an awesome Art pack from the lovely Jem. We took some awesome group shots before we moved into the movies. Which me and Lu ended up next to each other. I think the whole cinema heard us laughing.

I cannot explain the experience of 60+ fans watching a movie together. It was just the most amazing, brilliant and fun experience ever. I had already seen the movie twice before but nothing will beat this experience. After the movie we had an awesome quiz, with prizes. I won the Dolly Edition with the Vampire Academy poster.  Thank you also to Penguin Teen Australia who donated Half Bad by Sally Green for everyone’s goodie bags.

We then moved to lunch at The Groove Train, which ended up being about 30 of us as well as Nic. It was just so nice, talking to everyone, hanging out, and eating. While we waited for our food, Lu and I went and talked to Nic as we hadn’t had the chance to talk to him yet. Nic is probably the most sweetest man ever. He was so nice and funny.

Jem’s Sydney and Adrian Art that I won with Nic’s lovely message.

Thank you so much to Jem, Paige, Liz and Laura for such an amazing day every. I cannot explain how grateful I am.

Synopsis

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love. Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

Review

I really enjoyed Divergent so I was really looking forward to reading Insurgent and I wasn’t disappointed. I have written this view on the assumption that you have read Divergent. So in saying that, this review contains spoilers from Divergent.
If you have read my review of Divergent you might recall that I mentioned that I couldn’t connect with the characters, but something changed in Insurgent.

I connected with Tris and Four. I felt their emotions. I liked that Tris becomes a lot stronger in this book. She stands up for herself and for Four, especially to Marcus, but we also get to see her grief and I was surprised that I felt everything she was feeling. Especially her guilt. I really enjoyed that we started pretty much where we left off in Divergent. You don’t see many YA series, actually many books at all, start off the next installment I where the last left off. It was a change but it was also interesting. Everything just flowed.

Four, I really do love him. I don’t know if it’s just me or not, but I find him very genuine. His relationship with Tris, on the other hand…I love it to death, but there is just so much friction in this book. I dislike how Tris doesn’t tell Four stuff. However there are some of those cute and also steamy scenes, which does make me extra happy. The way that Tris talks about Four is simply amazing. She believes in and loves him so much. I just really enjoyed this.

I love that we get to know more about the different factions in Insurgent, especially Amity, where they refuge after the events of Divergent. Tris is absolutely hilarious under the serum, but also a little concerning. We see how much Four cares for her. The world building in Insurgent is so much better than in Divergent. We learn more about this dystopian world.

Veronica Roth takes on a whole new form in the world building. There are so many twists and turns, as well as many shocks. Including (hope I am not spoiling anything here) the rebellious factionles. It’s pretty awesome. I wanted to rip my heart out when Christian and Four find out how Will dies in Divergent. It’s pretty horrible with both sides.

I love Tris, I really do, but there were so many things that she did that really got onto my nerves and I wanted her to stop her from being the hero all the time. Sometimes, like with that I am learning in Classical Studies, she is full of Furor, of fury and passion, which isn’t a good thing at all. The ending, hmm, I am not sure if I like it or not.

What happens in the last chapters, I was here and there.  I liked them to a point. I also found that the middle was very slow in pace and kind of dragged on way too much.

Overall I really did enjoy Insurgent and Veronica Roth wrote some amazing scenes that tore me apart with emotions. D4Star

Quotes that I liked:

“Tobias is right about you” I say “you’re nothing but an arrogant, lying piece of garbage” “He said that, did he?” Marcus raised his eyebrows. “No” I say “He doesn’t mention you enough to say anything like that. i figured it out all on my own” I clench my teeth “you’re almost nothing to him, you know. And as time goes on, you become less and less”

…and i press my mouth to his because I know that’s kissing him will distract me from anything…

I know that I am birdlike, made narrow and small as if for taking flight, built straight-waisted and fragile. But when he touches me like he can’t bear to take his hand away, I don’t wish I was any different.

“Sleep” he says “I’ll fight the bad dreams off it they come to get you” “With What?” “My bare hands, obliviously”

“Sometimes … people just want to be happy, even if it’s not real”

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

He is sunshine, she is moonlight; he is a bright star and she is a moonbeam.

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
