Ten Books I Randomly Picked Off My TBR

Posted by angelreads Top Ten Tuesday 6 Comments

This week I’m sharing 10 books I have randomly picked off my Goodreads tbr. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I changed this week’s TTT up a little, simply because I wasn’t with my books while writing this post. So instead of randomly picking from my shelves. I am randomly picking up from my Goodreads tbr. I did a random number generator and picked these books off what I might want to read.

If you don’t know I use my Goodreads tbr to keep an eye on books I want to read. Even though I don’t always have these books, some might not be even out yet. But it’s a way for me to know what I want to read. So let’s get right into this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. Here are the books that I randomly picked off my goodreads tbr.

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout. | Yes & I Love You (Say Everything, #1) by Roni Loren. | Academy of Assassins. (Academy of Assassins, #1) by Stacey Brutger. | Second Position (District Ballet Company. #1) by Katherine Locke.

Twisted Ginni by Nicola Rose | Deceived by the Gargoyles (Monstrous Matches, #2) by Lillian Lark. | The Crown of Oaths and Curses (The Mortal Fates, #1) by J. Bree. | Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys.

Black Sheep by Brynne Weaver and Alexa Harlowe. | Corrupt (Devil’s Night, #1) by Penelope Douglas.

Okay and there we go. Those are the 10 books I randomly picked off my Goodreads tbr. I had so much fun doing this post and I cannot wait to see what you all have. Have you read any of these? What do you think of them? Are you planning on reading any of them? So, let’s chat!

Last 5 Reads | April 2023

Posted by angelreads Last 5 Reads No Comments

I know it’s been a little while since I’ve shared a post but the past 2 weeks have been a little busy for me. Last weekend I went to RARE Melbourne and had a fantastic time. And this week I’ve been right back into work. So today I thought I would do something a little easy and share my last 5 reads.

I’ve been reading a strange batch of books this month. And I kind of love it. It’s a whole heap of different things. From new series to some re-reads and more. Because I did binge-read some series, I did combine them as one read. Just so I didn’t have a whole series for this post alone.

So let’s get right into it. Here are my last 5 reads and a little of what I thought of them. As always these are in no order.

Knot Your Damn Omega by Devyn Sinclair: This is one that I read just before RARE and I loved it. I liked it so much that I went and not only bought a copy of this but a few more books from Devynn at RARE. I am really enjoying Omegaverese romances more and more. And this one was really fun and I can’t wait to read more from Devyn. If you are looking for a book to get into Omegaverse this one is a good place to start.

Hades #1-#4 by Tate James: I was just in the mood for a re-read of this series recently and I had a great time doing it. I think this is one of my favourites of Tates so far and it has everything that I like. It’s a little dark, dangerous, a why choose. It’s a good combo for me. And the re-read was a fantastic way for me to be reading when I don’t know what I feel like.

The Royals of Forsyth University #4-#6 by Angel Lawson and Samantha Rue: I read the first 3 books in this series at the start of the month and I knew I wanted to pick the rest up. And let me tell you, I love the Dukes way more than I did the Lords. I didn’t hate the Lord’s books, but the Duke’s stories were just so much more interesting and I kinda loved that. I am excited for the next batch of books as well. This is quite dark, why choose romance that has a lot of questionable things happen. But if you like that kind of thing, this series is great.

Highest Bidder (Salacious Players Club, #5) by Sara Cate: I’ve been very hesitant to pick this one up after the reviews I had seen floating around. But I took the plunge and while it’s not my favourite in the series. I did enjoy it. However, I did feel that the romance lacked a little. I wanted more from them and I just didn’t get it. In all the other books in the series, I’ve felt the romance, the love. But here I don’t even know. It just wasn’t fully there for me. I’m very excited about the last book. And I am very intrigued to see what happens here.

Pucking Ever After: Volume 1 by Emily Rath: This is a collection of extended epilogues from Emily Rath’s Jacksonville Rays Hockey Series. And I could not wait to read it. They are short, quick, sweet and spicy and I could not put them down. We get to see the lives of Rachel and her boys after their book and a little bit of what is going on. Their relationships grow, their family grows and they also have some fun. It was good, I liked it. It was a fun read.

And there we go, those are my last 5 reads. What have you read recently? What did you think of them? Have you read any of the books that I picked up? Let’s chat!

Dragons and Dark Romance | Mini ARC Reviews

Posted by angelreads Book Reviews No Comments

It’s time for more mini-reviews and this time it’s for two arcs that I have recently read. And I cannot wait to share my thoughts with you all. So today I’m sharing my thoughts on Lies like Rubies, Part One by Poppy Jacobson and Gilded Dreams (Dragons of Sin City #1) by Thora Woods and Shannon French.

I didn’t know too much about these books before I picked them up. I’ve only read Thora Woods before so I was reading books from new-to-me authors. And by these being new books as well I hadn’t heard too much about them. So let’s get into it.

Please read all trigger warnings before picking up both books. They both have dark and quite heavy themes.

Lies like Rubies, Part One by Poppy Jacobson

I received a copy of Lies Like Rubies by Poppy Jacobson for review, this has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings.

I didn’t know much about this book before I went, but it wasn’t what I expected. Now this isn’t a bad thing at all. I actually ended up enjoying Lies Like Rubies quite a bit. But it was different from what I had in mind. It’s dark, dangerous and very smutty. Sofia is a fascinating protagonist and I’m intrigued to know more about her. I liked that she had these moments where she needed help, but then she stood her ground and was strong.

The love interests in this one were very interesting. I liked that each of them had their own story and played their part and I cannot wait to see what they all do next.
The ending though!!! Major cliffhanger and this leaves me hanging for more. I am super excited and terrified to see what is going to happen next. I do want to say normally I am pretty good in regard to triggers and content warnings, but there were times when I was a bit taken aback so just prepare yourself for that.

Overall this is a dark crime filled why choose with heavy themes. But It’s also something you don’t want to put down. I really recommend you read some more reviews and content warnings because this book isn’t for everyone.  It’s a great start to this duet and I am intrigued to read the next part.

Gilded Dreams (The Dragons of Sin City #1) by Thora Woods and Shannon French

I received a copy of Gilded Dreams by Thora Woods and Shannon French for review, this has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book before I jumped in. I’ve previously read the Pack Saint Clair series by Thora Woods and really enjoyed it, but this was very different.

I really enjoyed the whole concept of this world. It’s quite different to what I have read before and I was intrigued by how everything world. I did want a little more explanation but that wasn’t a massive deal.  This is a dragon shifter Omegaverse romance with other beings.

I liked that we already had an established pack between Viktor, Felix, and Gavril. And then Lyra just knocks her way through. She doesn’t give in. She isn’t going to let them control her and she will get her way.

I do wish we did get a little more romance and connection here, but I also do think it was a great start to the series and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books. Espeically with that ending.

Overall, this book is intense and gut-wrenching at times. But it’s also funny, smutty and keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a new omegaverse series to start that has paranormal and fantasy elements, then this is for you.

And there we go. Those are two mini reviews of arcs that I have recently read. I enjoyed both of these books and I am excited to read some more. What have you read recently? Have you read one of the books I talked about today? What did you think of them? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
