New to Reading Romance? Start Here!

Posted by angelreads Top Ten Tuesday 1 Comment

This week I’m sharing romance books for those wanting to start reading more in the genre. Top Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

The romance genre is big! And when you haven’t delved into it, it’s hard to know where to start. So for this week’s love freebie, I thought it would be fun to share romance books that I would recommend for first-time romance readers. From contemporary reads to fantasy books, with little to no spice to a nice amount for those starting.

It’s the month of love, so let’s get into it. As always these are in no real order. Here are the romance books that I think are perfect for those just starting to read romacne. And, let’s go!

For the Contemporary Romance Readers

Done and Dusted (Rebel Blue Ranch, #1) by Lyla Sage. | Close Knit. (The Hastings #1) by Kels Stone and Denise Stone. | Binding 13 (Boys of Tommen. #1) by Chloe Walsh. | Whispers of You. (Lost & Found, #1) by Catherine Cowles.

Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young. | Rookie Move (Brooklyn Bruisers, #1) by Sarina Bowen

For the Fantasy Romance Readers

Fourth Wing (The Empyrean, #1) by Rebecca Yarros. | When the Moon Hatched (Moonfall, #1) by Sarah A. Parker. | King of Battle and Blood (Adrian x Isolde, #1) by Scarlett St. Clair. | Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh.

And there we go, those are just some of the romance reads that I think are great for those just starting to read romance books. Have you read any of these? What did you think? Are you planning on reading any of them? What are some of the romance books that you would recommend to first-time romance readers? So, let’s chat!

2024 Releases I Was Excited to Read but Still Haven’t Gotten To

Posted by angelreads Top Ten Tuesday 5 Comments

This week I’m sharing some of the 2024 releases I was excited to read but didn’t manage to pick up. To Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

There were a lot of releases in 2024 and while I managed to read quite a few of them, I still missed a good chunk. So today I’m sharing the ones that I was excited for but just didn’t get to them. But I do hope that I can this year. From some new-to-me authors and some old favs, there is a range of books and authors on this list.

I’m hoping I can get to a few of these in the next few months, especially those that have more books coming out soon. So let’s get into it, here are some of the 2024 releases I was excited to read but didn’t manage to pick up. As always these are in no real order.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood. | Make the Season Bright. by Ashley Herring Blake. | Pucking Sweet (Jacksonville Rays #3). by Emily Rath. | Business Casual (Lovelight, #4) by B.K. Borison.

Not Another Love Song by Julie Soto. | Lights Out (Into Darkness, #1) by Navessa Allen. Quicksilver (Fae & Alchemy, #1) by Callie Hart. | Phantasma (Wicked Games, #1) by Kaylie Smith.

Daydream (Maple Hills, #3) by Hannah Grace. | Only and Forever (Bergman Brothers, #7) by Chloe Liese.

And there we go, those are just some of the 2024 releases I was excited to read but didn’t manage to pick up. Have you read any of them? What did you think? Are you planning on reading any of the books that made it to my list? What books are on yours? So, let’s chat!

A Fantastic Start To The Year | January Wrap Up

Posted by angelreads Monthly Wrap Up No Comments

2025 has started pretty great if you ask me. I managed to read 16 books in January, which was exactly how I wanted to start the year. The end of 2024 was a little slumpy. So starting the year by just reading a tonne was exactly what I wanted to happen.

Not only am I happy with how much I was able to read, but I read so many books that I loved. I did a re-read of ‘The Empyrean’ series before Onyx Storm came out and had the best time. I was also able to binge-read a few books in other series that have been on my tbr for a little while. January was just a solid month. If you want to keep up to date with my reading you can check out my Goodreads, as well as Storygraph which I will be using more of this year.

But that’s enough chatting, let’s get into it. Here are all the books that I read this January. And as always these are in no real order.

Deviant King (Royal Elite, #1) by Rina Kent – 3 Stars. | Steel Princess (Royal Elite, #2) by Rina Kent – 3 Stars. | Twisted Kingdom (Royal Elite, #3) by Rina Kent – 3.5 Stars. | Fourth Wing [Dramatized Adapation] – 4 Stars. Reread.

Iron Flame [Dramatized Adaptation] – 4.5 Stars. Reread. | Fight. (Sky Ridge Hotshots, #1) by Sloane St. James. – 3 Stars. | Black Knight (Royal Elite. #4) by Rina Kent – 4 Stars. | When It Raynes. (Frost Industries, #1) by Montana Fyre – 2.5 Stars.

Onyx Storm (The Empyrean, #3) by Rebecca Yarros – 5 Stars. | All I Need (The Knights, #1) by E. Salvador – 4 Stars. | Merciless (Harrow Creek Hawks, #1) by Tracy Lorraine – 3 Stars. | Relentless (Harrow Creek Hawks #2) by Tracy Lorraine – 3.5 Stars

Lawless. (Harrow Creek Hawks #3) by Tracy Lorraine – 4 Stars. | Fearless (Harrow Creek Hawks #4) by Tracy Lorraine. – 4 Stars. | Protect (Sky Ridge Hotshots, #2) by Paisley Hope – 4 Stars. | Vicious Prince (Royal Elite #5) by Rina Kent – 4 Stars.

And there we go, those are all the books I read in January! I am so happy with how the month went. Not only did I read a decent amount of books, I also read books I loved. There weren’t any books that I really disliked or anything like that. And I possibly read my favourite book of the year. So yer it was fantastic. What did you read this month? Do we share any books? Have you read any books on my list? Let’s chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.

And I’m going to be honest here it’s because I’ve been constantly reading Heated Rivalry fanfics. 🤷‍♀️ I’m having the best time though.

How was your reading in February? Any 5 star reads?
