It Was Not A Good Month | October Haul

Posted by angelreads Book Hauls No Comments

Okay, October was not a good month. Let me start by saying I didn’t buy all these books this month. I just got them in October. Earlier this month I went to a romance book signing here in Melbourne called Books In-Sight. So it means I picked up a lot of books.

I picked up such a range of books this month from all types of romance, to even some non-fiction. From indie-published books to trad published and more. Enough of all this chat, it’s time to share them. Here are the books that I got this October.

Tragedy, the Greeks, and Us by Simon Critchley | The Ruin of All Witches: Death and Desire in an Age of Enchantment by Malcolm Gaskill. | The Valkyrie’s Viking (The Valkyrie of Birca #1) by Tanya Nellestein. | Demons Do It Better (Hidden Species #1) by Louisa Masters.

Only the Positive (Only You, #1) by Elle Thorpe | Only the Perfect (Only You #2) by Elle Thorpe. | Only the Truth (Only You #2.5) by Elle Thorpe. | Devious Little Liars (Saint View High #1) by Elle Thorpe.

Dangerous Little Secrets (Saint View High #2) by Elle Thorpe | Twisted Little Truths (Saint View High #3) by Elle Thorpe. | Claimed By The CEO (Woodmeadows Pack #1) by Corinne Mazille | Emerald (The Silvia Saga #1) by Jenna Lee.

Topaz (The Silvia Saga #2) by Jenna Lee | Ruby (The Silvia Saga #3) by Jenna Lee. | Broken Wolf (Savage #2) by Mila Young. | Fated Wolf (Savage #3) by Mila Young.

Hunted (Haven Realm Chronicles, #1) by Mila Young | Kings of Eden (Kings of Eden #1) by Mila Young and Harper A. Brooks. | Monster’s Plaything (Monster & Me #1) by C.R. Jane and Mila Young. | The Evelyn Maynard Trilogy (The Evelyn Maynard Trilogy #1-3) by Kaydence Snow.

Reverie and Redemption by Kaydence Snow | Praise (Salacious Players Club #1) by Sara Cate. | Eyes on Me (Salacious Players Club #2) by Sara Cate | Give Me More (Salacious Players Club #3) by Sara Cate.

Dating Dr. Dil (If Shakespeare was an Auntie #1) by Nisha Sharma. | A Million Kisses in Your Lifetime by Monica Murphy.

And there we go. Those are all the books that I bought this October. As you can see it was quite a lot and clearly I can’t stop. Especially with how well I have been doing. Nevertheless, it’s all good, I can’t wait to read them all.

What books did you pick up this month? Are you looking forward to them? Are there any books on my haul that you have already read? So, let’s chat!

Paranormal and Fantasy Romances on my TBR

Paranormal and Fantasy Romances on my TBR

Posted by angelreads Features, Top Ten Tuesday 11 Comments

.

This week is a Halloween Freebie and I’m sharing paranormal and fantasy romances on my tbr. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I don’t do scary, and since I did a monster romance post a little while ago. And I thought that sharing paranormal and fantasy romances on my tbr was a perfect choice.

I love me some paranormal and fantasy romances. It was my most-read genre in young adult for so many years and even now I think it’s one I read in romance a lot. So today I’m sharing those currently on my tbr. Some of from new to me authors, some are from new series I want to start. And some are from current series I’m reading.

So let’s get into it. As always these are in no real order. Here are the paranormal and fantasy romances currently on my tbr.

A Soul to Heal (Duskwalker Brides #2) by Opal Reyne | Dark Fae (Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac #1) by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti. | Court of the Vampire Queen by Katee Robert | The Unseelie Prince (Maze of Shadows #1) by Kathryn Ann Kingsley.

Queen of Myth and Monsters (Adrian X Isolde #2) by Scarlett St. Clair | Fortuna Sworn (Fortuna Sworn #1) by K.J. Sutton. | Gild (The Plated Prisoner #1) by Raven Kennedy | A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor (Tempting Monsters #1) by Kathryn Moon.

Fated Wolf (Savage #3) by Mila Young | Fire in His Blood (Fireblood Dragon #1) by Ruby Dixon.

And there we go. Those are some of the  paranormal and fantasy romances currently on my tbr. Have you read any of these? What do you think of them? What made it to your list? Let’s chat!

Book Sacrifice Tag | Book Tag

Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

I love doing book tags, and when I saw this one, I knew I had to do it. The book sacrifice tag was created by Ariel Basset, quite a few years ago. The way this works is; we are given a scenario where we will need to sacrifice a book. Let’s get right into it.

An Over-Hyped Book

Situation: You’re in a store when the zombie apocalypse hits. The military informs everyone that over-hyped books are the zombies’ only weakness. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you disliked do you start chucking at the zombies?

I honestly don’t know why this book has the love that it has. The Words: An Enemies-to-Lovers Standalone Romance by Ashley Jade, was not for me. I disliked it so much. I gave it 2 stars but honestly, I don’t even think I should have even given it that. The relationship in this book is so toxic my gosh. I should have dnf’d it, but I was reading it for a post here.

This book gets a lot of love and it’s sitting at a 4.42 rating on GoodReads, which I find very interesting.

A Sequel

Situation: torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

I am bringing it back a few years here, but Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth and even Alliegent honestly was not the vibe. There was so much potential for this series and it all just fell flat. Maybe because I like happy endings and I feel I was so cheated here.

Also thinking about it now, I wasn’t a massive fan of the writing or the characters. I think I just read it because it was popular and thought I liked it.

A Classic

Situation: You’re in English class and your professor raves about a Classic that “transcends time”. If given the opportunity to travel back in time, which classic would you try to stop from ever publishing?

Ahh, this is such a hard question because a lot of classics have really changed not only the publishing and book world but also everything else. However, if I did have to sacrifice one it would be. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Now, now. I don’t think this should have never been published. But it is my least favourite classic that I have read. It’s honestly just not for me.

What classic would be on your list?

A Least Favourite Book

Situation: apparently global warming = suddenly frozen wasteland. Your only hope of survival for warmth is to burn a book. Which book will you not regret lighting?

I do want to start this by saying this isn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, but it’s a recent book that I picked up and regret reading. Failure to Thrive by Elle Rivers. There was so much going on in this book I don’t even know where to start. Her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend, her sister gets her a job nannying for her boss. The boss and love interest start dating someone else. Then I don’t know what happens yet. Everything.

I think this book would have been so much better if everything wasn’t just thrown into it. I was so confused about what was happening half the time. And again I should have stopped reading, but I suck at doing that.

Well, there we go. That is the book sacrifice tag. I had a lot of fun doing this short and quick tag. What do you think of my picks? What books would you pick to sacrifice? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
