20 Questions 2.0 | Book Tag

Posted by angelreads Book Tag No Comments

It’s time for another book tag. Today I am doing the 20 Questions 2.0 Book Tag. This was created by Anja Xuan over on booktube, but I was tagged by non-other than my best friend Ely from Earl Grey Books. I love trying new book tags and this seemed like a lot of fun, so here we go.

1. What are your favourite genres to read?

A few years ago this would have been a totally different answer. But over the past 2 years or so, I’ve been reading romance more and more. So that has to take top tier for me. I’ve been also reading a lot of different romance sub-genres this year which is so much fun.

2. Do you read more relatively popular books or more underrated books?

A mix of both for sure. I like to read more popular ones to see what they are about, but I also love finding books I’ve never heard of and then end up loving them. There are also times, especially right now with booktok, where I read years ago and now it’s becoming popular.

3. From what author have you read the most books from?

I haven’t had a count in a while, so you may see that post coming soon. But last time I checked it was Sarina Bowen with 35 books. Will you like to see an updated post with my most read authors?

4. What audiences (YA, middle grade, adult, etc) do you gravitate towards the most?

Adult for sure as I mostly do read romance. But YA is next for sure. I would also like to say that I also love reading New Adult a lot too and I wish there was so much more for that age.

5. Most relatable character?

This is such a hard question for me. I honestly don’t know who to pick. I read a lot to escape, so there aren’t many characters that I feel I can relate to a lot. But one that I felt connected with recently is Frankie from Always Only You (Bergman Brothers #2) by Chloe Liese.

6. Have you always loved reading?

Yes! Absolutely. I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t reading. As a child, my mum would also read to me. And as I got older, I always read myself. There has also not been a time that I can remember when I haven’t read constantly either.

7. What’s a book you feel like was written for you?

Ohh this is such an interesting question. I honestly had to think about this one for a while. I know I have already mentioned this author but the Bergman Brothers Series by Chloe Liese. This series has fantastic disability representation and I can’t begin to explain why I love it so much. You can check out my review of the most recent book in the series now.

8. First or third person?

Third, without a doubt. I do read first, but I much prefer third person, close to the narrator.

9. Are you a mood reader or a TBR reader?

Mood hands down. I’ve spoken about this before on here but I’m absolutely a mood reader.

10. Series or standalones?

This is such a hard one. It honestly depends on what mood I’m in. But most of the time I’m a series reader. I especially love series that follow different characters in the same world, friendship groups etc.

11. Do you annotate your books?

No, not really. If there is something that I love, or dislike I will note it down. But it’s not something that I do constantly. I mostly read on the train, so this would make it so hard.

12. Long or short books?

My favourite pages for a book are between 300-400 pages. So right smack bam in the middle. I do love reading a 700-page book every once in a while. But I mostly like sticking to under 500 pages.

13. Favourite bookish tropes?

This is like asking me what my favourite book is. But I do love best friend sibling/siblings best friend, fake dating/marriage of convenience, hate to love, and second chance romances.

14. Favourite book to TV show/film adaptation?

Heartstopper! Need I say more. I just binged it and oh my gosh it’s seriously fantastic. I honestly can’t really pick anything that I felt was missing from the book so far. I’m so excited to see where this is taken.

15. Do you DNF?

I do. But do I do it often? No. I like to give a book as much of a chance as possible. And sometimes I push myself to finish a book. I really shouldn’t though. When it’s not my jam, I should just out it down.

16. What’s a book you wish you had a sequel?

I honestly can’t think of any at the moment. As I said before. I mainly read series so for me, I get the books that I want.

17. Favourite fictional place/setting?

I do love any fantastical setting. I just love the magic that it can bring to the page. Anything that also includes forests. I don’t even know why, because I don’t like walking in them. There is something about it that makes me love a book.

18. Ebooks, audiobooks, or physical books?

I love and adore the look of physical books. And I still buy them – a lot. But I do like my ebooks. It just makes it so much easier for me. Travelling to work each day. There are times when I had to stand or I have people sitting next to me, and just having to hold my phone or kindle is perfect.

19. What’s your preferred page length for a book?

I mentioned this before but between 300-400 pages. I don’t mind when it hits the 500 mark either.

20. Tag your friends.

I’m tagging anyone that wants to do this tag. Let me know if you do, so I can check out your answers!

And there we go! That is the 20 questions 2.0 book tag. What do you think of my answers? Let’s Chat!

My Last Five Reads | May

Posted by angelreads Last 5 Reads No Comments

I’ve really been liking doing these posts the last couple of months, so today we are doing another look at my last five reads. My reading has been so much better lately, especially since I’ve not had a great two months. But I’m finally feeling in the mood and loving reading at the moment.

I also want to note, that I do write these posts a little in advance but not too much. So if you follow me on GoodReads, you might notice that we are a little behind. Anyway, let’s get right into it. Also if I binge read a series I just include it as ‘one book’ for this. Let’s go!

Red Ridge Sinners MC #2-4 by Caitlyn Dare: I’ve put off reading this series until it was completed and I realised a few days ago it finally was. So I read books 2-4 which follows River and her men Diesel, Zach, and Jax. This is an MC romance that is dark, and gritty and I’m really into it. It’s very much a hate/dislike to love romance between River and her men.

There is a dark romance, with quite a few trigger warnings. So before you pick this one up, please just check before you read it.

But if you like those times of romances with love- interests that just aren’t that kind, then pick this up.

Pack Origin (A Blissful Omegaverse #0.5) by Kate King and Jessa Wilder: There isn’t much to say about this one. It’s just under 100 pages but is an excellent introduction to the world that these authors have created.

Pack Origin follows Bliss in an omengaverse world. Living in a foster home with the boys that have always been there for her. She’s a beta, they are alphas but that doesn’t change much between them. Then things start to change. Not just between Bliss and her boys, but within Bliss herself.

I’m not sure when I’m going to start the rest of the series, but I’m excited.

Triple-Duty Bodyguards by Lily Gold: I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book. It sounded intriguing and I wanted a fun read. It’s not a ‘fun’ read per se. I still did enjoy it a lot.

When Briar is confronted with a stranger in her own home, she knows she needs more protection. Bring in the Angels and now Briar doesn’t just have one man to protect her but three.

They are protective, aggressive and will do anything for Briar. It started off making sure she is protected, then it turns into making sure she is also loved.

Lessons in Corruption (The Fallen Men #1) by Giana Darling: This was actually a re-read for me. In my anticipation for the upcoming book in this series. I wanted to do a re-read and just get myself back into the world and timeline.

I really do love this series, and this is the book that kicked it off for me. Please check trigger warnings before jumping into this book and series. This one has an age gap romance with some forbidden territories. I’m so excited about the new book. Ekk.

One Night in Garoureve (The Shifters of Garoureve #1) by Elle M. Drew: I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did. But as soon as I started it, I knew I was going to love it and I did.

It’s sexy and hot. But also really addicting. The romance was really interesting and I loved them together. I wish we were able to see a little more of the life after secrets are revealed, however, it’s a series. So I am hoping we see them again soon.

I can’t wait to continue reading the rest of the series. It makes me so excited.

And there we go. Those are the last five books that I’ve read so far this month. As you can see from this post I’ve really enjoyed a lot of my last five reads. What have you read recently? Did you enjoy them? Let’s chat!

Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read

Posted by angelreads Top Ten Tuesday 7 Comments

This week I’m sharing the books I was excited to get but still haven’t read. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I’ve gotten a lot of books this year, and I have read a good chunk of them. But there are still so many that I haven’t read yet. So today I’m sharing the books that I was excited to get this year but still haven’t had the chance to read.

There are mostly romances on this list because that is pretty much all I’ve been reading for the past year. But I’m excited to pick these ones up. As always these are in no real order. Let’s go.

A Pack of Blood and Lies (The Boulder Wolves #1) by Olivia Wildenstein | A Deal with the Elf King (Married to Magic #1) by Elise Kova | Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas | Immortal Plunder (Pirates of Felicity #1) by Kelly St. Clare.

The Longing of Lone Wolves (Fae Guardians #1) by Lana Pecherczyk |  Gild (The Plated Prisoner #1) by Raven Kennedy. | Bombshell (Hell’s Belles #1) by Sarah MacLean | Taken to Voraxia (Xiveri Mates #1). by Elizabeth Stephens.

Reel (Hollywood Renaissance #1) by Kennedy Ryan | Hooked (Never After, #1) by Emily McIntire.

And there we go. Those are the books I was excited to get this year but still, haven’t had the chance to read yet. Where should I start? Have you read any of these? Let’s Chat!

I have a love-hate relationship with this series. I have a love-hate relationship with this series. But I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s best friends to fake dating to-lovers. It’s always been you, bad-boy/good-girl, and I loved that. While Save Your Breath has quite a few tropes, it really leads itself to it, and it works.

Aleks and Mia have known each other for years now. Since they were teenagers, that angst has been building up this whole time. And you can tell right from the get-go, it’s fantastic. I even wanted more of it, because I love pain. When Aleks went to live with Mia’s family as a teenager, sparks flew, but for many reasons, they both put their feelings aside. And well, now they are not only going to be fake-dating, but they might as well be engaged, too.

I really enjoyed seeing how both Aleks and Mia both tried to hide how they were feeling throughout the whole ‘fake-dating’ situation, but anyone could see it. They know each other as no one else does. Aleks has a lot going on, and while I do think this was brushed over a little too much, Mia is his centre. Mia is a massive music star and is a female in the industry, so yeah, people don’t respect her. Obvsiouly because why couldn’t a female star be badass and write about the things that she has gone through? Aleks and Mia get each other, and that is very clear from the start; they are both just trying to squash everything. We get to see them slowly start to show how they feel, and well, one night it all explodes.

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot; it’s not my favourite of the series, but I had a great time reading it. I liked Aleks and Mia a lot as characeters and while I think the mental health aspect could have been explored a whole lot more, I can see why it wasn’t. The romance was slow and spicy, the angst was great, and the payoff for these two was what they needed.
