Book Review: The Dragon’s Bride by Katee Robert

The Dragon’s Bride (A Deal With a Demon #1) by Katee Robert

Pages: 180
Publish date: March 29, 2022
Publisher: Trinkets and Tales LLC
ISBN: 9781951329471
Purchase: Amazon UK – Amazon US – Amazon AU

Briar Rose might have a name out of a storybook, but she learned at a very young age that no prince was coming to save her. She’ll have to save herself. Unfortunately, even that is an impossible task in her current situation—trapped in a terrifying marriage to a dangerous man.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, which is how she finds herself making a deal with a demon. Freedom from her husband…in return for seven years of service.

She expects the service to be backbreaking and harsh. She doesn’t expect to be put on an auction block in a room full of literal monsters and sold to the highest bidder.

To Sol.

A dragon.

He might seem kinder than his fearsome looks imply, but she knows better than to trust the way he wants to take care of her, or how invested he is in her pleasure. In her experience, if something seems too good to be true, it certainly is.

Falling for Sol is out of the question. She’s suffered enough, and she has no intention of staying in this realm…even if she leaves her heart behind when she returns to her normal life.

The Dragon’s Bride:

I received an e-arc of The Dragon’s Bride by Katee Robert from the author in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts and feelings about the book.

Content warnings via the author: domestic abuse (historical, off-page, but the heroine is dealing with the aftermath of getting out of that relationship), murder (off-page), human/non-human sex, size difference, explicit sex, breeding, pregnancy (epilogue).

I am becoming quite a big fan of Katee Robert as of late. At first, I didn’t know if I was going to pick up The Dragon’s Bride. It’s my usual type of romance. But I also know that I’ve loved nearly all of the Katee Robert books I’ve picked up. I’ve also been trying to read wider in my romance in terms of sub-genres. And let me tell you, this book surprised me so much. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. And now I want more people to try it.

The Dragon’s Bride follows Briar Rose as she makes a deal with a Demon. Briar Rose needs to get out of her marriage, she needs a safe space and someone to protect her. And when she signs her life over to a demon she didn’t know what was going to happen. Sol needs to save his people, and the only way that he thinks that he can is by going along with the demon’s plans. What he doesn’t expect is Briar.

There was a lot I really enjoyed in The Dragon’s Bride, from the characters to the romance. And even the writing itself. Everything felt easy to read, and the world was also very interesting. I would also say that even though it’s a monster romance, it’s actually on the tamer side of Katee’s books. Which I found very interesting. From the start, Katee was able to take me away to her world, and I didn’t want to leave.

Briar was a very interesting protagonist. It did take me a little while to warm up to her. And by a while, I literally mean only a few chapters. But once I did, I was all in. Briar has been hurt. She has been really hurt. And throughout The Dragon’s Bride, we get to see her come to terms with the things that have happened. But we also get to see her grow and fall in love. It’s a really interesting contrast, between who Briar was at the start of the book, to who she becomes. I loved her characterisation and seeing her develop herself outside of who she was when she was married.

Sol is such a contrast to Briar and I kinda loved that. He is this big brute of a monster, but as time goes on he is actually quite soft. There is no way to hide this, Sol is a dragon and not a dragon that can have a human form. Sol is a dragon. It was really interesting being in the prospect of a character that isn’t human at all physically. But Sol’s thoughts and feelings were all humans.

The romance in The Dragon’s Bride was very interesting. I didn’t know how I was going to feel about it. Monster romances are still very new to me and I was hesitant. But Sol and Briar Rose grabbed my heart. I really enjoyed seeing them fall for one another. There was this instant connection, but the romance was filled with small touches and hidden smiles.

While these two seem very different from one another, they work. So well. Katee Robert has this knack for creating sweet and caring romances that are also hella smutty. As I said before, I found this a lot tamer than her other books, which is such a strange concept. But my gosh all the feels. It’s that type of book that just hits you in the chest. It’s emotional, sweet and gives all those feelings. I mean don’t get me wrong this is a Katee Robert book, it’s still very smutty.

Like all of Katee’s books I really enjoyed the writing style and the world. Katee has this way of writing that just grabs me from the get-go. It makes it easy to understand everything that is happening and I wasn’t once confused. I am really excited to see where this world is taken. The rest of the monsters in this series are quite intriguing.

Overall, I loved reading The Dragon’s Bride by Katee Robert. It’s a great start to a new monster series that is both sweet and steamy. Sol and Briar Rose warmed my heart and it was a pleasure seeing them fall for one another. This marriage of convenience, monster romance is fantastic. If you are looking to start something new to you, that isn’t too intense then give this one a go. You already know you are in for a ride.

author i love that i haven't read before

This week is a freebie week, so I decided to do an old topic because I thought it would be fun. Today I’m sharing books from authors that I love, that I still need to read. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and Bookish and is hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

This topic really caught my eye. There are some authors that I love that I have nearly read every one of their books. But there are some, that I’m still making my way through their backlist titles. There are some authors that I have binged right away and now only have some of their recent books to read. So let’s get into it. As always these are in no order.

book covers for each title of books from authors i love

Thicker Than Water by Brigid Kemmerer | The Lady Rogue by. Jenn Bennett | Sacrifice (Bloodline Vampires #1) by Katee Robert. | Bombshell (Hell’s Belles #1) by Sarah MacLean.

book covers for each title of books from authors i love

A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor (Tempting Monsters #1) by Kathryn Moon. | Honey Trap (The Guild #1) by Tate James | Then Came You (The Gamblers of Craven’s #1) by Lisa Kleypas. | A Rogue by Any Other Name (The Rules of Scoundrels #1) by Sarah MacLean.

book covers for each title of books from authors i love

Snow (Underworld #2) by Sophie Lark | The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros.

And there we go. Those are some of the books from authors that I love that I still haven’t managed to read yet. Have your any of these books? Do any of these authors make your list? Let’s Chat!

Latest Books Added To My Goodreads TBR

Posted by angelreads TBR No Comments

It’s been a little while since I’ve shared some of the latest books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR. As always I don’t use my Goodreads TBR for books that I solely have. But I use it for books that I see and want to read as well.  So it’s a mix of books I want to read and books I already have and want to read.

So let’s get right into it. As I’ve read romance of the past year, a lot of the books on my tbr currently are romances. I’m also trying to read my way through two romance events happening here in Australia next year. As always these are in no order.

The Knotty Girls Club (Saint Vista Pack Regimes Book 1) by Ginna Moran | Alcohol You Later by Heather M. Orgeron. | Triple-Duty Bodyguards by Lily Gold | The Kraken’s Sacrifice (A Deal With a Demon #2) by Katee Robert.

A Shot of Sin (The Vault #1) by Eden Summers | Seeking Vengeance (Hunting Duet #1) by Eden Summers. | I Never Planned on You (I Never #1) by Stefanie Jenkins. | Only the Positive (Only You #1) by Elle Thorpe.

Lawless (Steel Demons MC #1) by Crystal Ash | Kick (Savage Saints MC #1). by Carmen Jenner | The Bloody Bride (The Rocchetti Dynasty #1) by Bree Porter |A Special Obsession (The Men of Crestview #1) by A.M. Hargrove.

And there we go. Those are the latest books I’ve added to my Goodreads TBR. Have you read any of these books? Are you planning to? Let’s Chat!

April was a very good reading month for me, especi April was a very good reading month for me, especially after last month. I had some really fantastic reads in April. I did do a lot of re-reading this month but I had such blast. I re-read Caught Up and Play Along and the first 4 books in the Ironside Academy series. 📚

I read some books that I’ve been waiting for including the new book from Kels and Denise Stone, as well as the new Tessa Hale. ✨

Overall it was such a good month, lots of binge reading series and starting on some new authors. I’m so excited to see what May brings. 🖤

What was your favourite book that you read in April?

When a mysterious woman intrudes on his private party in Monte Carlo, he is certain the universe has brought his polar opposite into his life as salvation. He is sunshine, she is moonlight; he is a bright star and she is a moonbeam.

Destiny takes the wheel, steering Kamari into Thiago’s orbit, but her open disdain and closely guarded heart warn her to stay away. Enchanted by her charms, Thiago is intent on melting her freezing barriers and tearing down the walls shielding her heart.

When Kamari agrees to help him save his future by being his fake girlfriend, the unexpected happens, triggered by a game of lies, secrets and desire.

A little late but I am finally getting to share Ra A little late but I am finally getting to share Race 5’s Race Week Reads review. This week I read, Downforce (Pit Lane #1) by Hannah Lily.

🏎️ Review 🏎️

I had so much fun reading this book. I knew I was in for a ride as soon as I started Downforce. It was entertaining, fun, and I just had a good time reading it. And while it does explore some heavy topics, I don’t think it took away from the fun nature of the book.

Right from the start, we can see the tension between F1 Presenter, Olivia Fraser and F1 Driver, Jonah Scott. And while silly at times, it was fun seeing them interact together. Both really didn’t like each other. They both had said things about and to one another that sometimes it caused chaos. And I was here for it.

I did find that at times, just silly things happened. I am not a massive rom-com reader, and there was a lot of falling into one another, and arguments stemmed from nothing. This is honestly just because I don’t like these types of scenes, but it didn’t really make me dislike the book at all.

I loved the whole road trip aspect of the book, it’s different from other F1 books I’ve read so far this year and just made for some interesting banter and lust. I do wish that the road trip was a little longer than it was because I did feel like the romance moved pretty quickly here, but again, it didn’t really affect how much I was enjoying the book.

The romance was this combination of being slow burn and full of angst right at the start, to the road trip happening and then bam. But I loved it, though. The banter between Olivia and Jonah was fantastic. I loved seeing them grow not only with one another but with themselves as well.

Overall, I had a great time reading Downforce and will be continuing the series for sure when the other books come out. The romance was angsty and just felt right. The found family aspect really worked well here, and the F1 aspects were pretty okay. Not the best I’ve seen, but not the worst either. If you are looking for a fun read that has a great romance and a little rom-comy, then pick this one up.
I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. I’ve already had a pretty amazing reading year. There have been so many books that I have enjoyed but there are some that I have just loved. 🖤

I didn’t realise before I put this post together that all of these books are from authors I’ve read and loved before. There hasn’t been a Rebecca Yarros book that I haven’t rated under 4 Stars. Elsie Silver is just making me love everything that she writes. Wild and Wrangled may be my favourite in the series. 📖

Three rereads also made it to this list. Binding 13 still makes me gasp and smile all at the same time. And Caught Up and Play Along just hit every time. 📚

I’ve honestly had a great year so far and since making this post a few more books I’ve read I’ve ended up loving. It’s going to be hard to pick my favourites at the end of the year that is for sure. ✨

What books have you loved reading this year? Are any books that made my list on yours? Let me know!
